Whoa, didn't see this one coming. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Angela Bassett in at "ER"
To take on a regular role for the series' final season

"ER" is adding star power for its final season.
Angela Bassett will join the cast of the Emmy-winning medical drama as a regular next season.
In her first full-time series gig, Bassett will play a tough attending with a troubled past who's coming back to Chicago after a few years in Indonesia doing tsunami relief. Her arrival in the second episode next season promises to shake County General's ER to the core.
"Angela is a wonderfully talented actress whom I've long hoped to work with," said "ER" exec producer John Wells.
In addition to Bassett, original cast member Noah Wyle will join "ER" for its 15th and final season. Wyle will guest star in at least four of the show's planned 19 episodes.
Bassett, who starred in Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns," recently wrapped the B.I.G. biopic "Notorious." She is repped by CAA and Untitled.

Great addition for ER. Hopefully she wont get too bogged down in relationship drama of any kind.
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

I enjoyed the mini "Felicity" reunion on Thursday with Amy Aquino and Amanda Foreman. The episode itself wasn't all that good. Didn't see much Emmy worthy from Hal Holbrook, to be honest and feel like Turturro's story is a bit of a dud.
Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over— an analyst and a therapist. The world’s first analrapist.
Well hopefully she will be able to bring in some more viewers along with Wyle. I think she will do well on the show! Good luck to her! Does anyone think that she will be able to get a guest actress nomination this year? Her character seems really interesting and she is a great actress!

I think the 5-1-08 episode was good. That ending was a surprise and Josh Stewart gave a good performance. He's everywhere now. The next episode has more Turturro and that could be Emmy material.

The 5-1 eppy was exceptional and it surprises me how this show that has been around for 14 years can still crank out these wonderful eppys. Josh Stewart did outstanding work as did Scott Grimes & Parmader Nagra.
It's going to be sad to see this show go next year, flaws and all - its been a great ride that i'm proud to have never missed any eppy.

Are they killing off Maura Tierney at the end of the season? That would be a complete disservice to the genius, heart, and leadership this actress has brought to the show.

They are not. She will leave before the end of next season (in the beginning of the 15th season), but she will not be killed. There is another regular though who will not be so lucky. He/she will leave before Tierney though.
I'm sorry that the wondrous Maura Tierney won't be around for the full, final season. Like Juliana Margulies before her, Tierney is the beating heart of this show. Man, I wish she'd get some Emmy love, but it won't happen.

Tierney was the last regular on the show to receive a nod (a very deserving one in 2001 for her storyline with Sally Field). She's long been one of my favorite television actresses, always making my Top 10--last year and the one before even my Top 5. She's portrayed some of the realest, truest storylines on TV from her alcoholism to her questioning whether to carry her pregnancy. In my opinion she stands next to Clooney, Wyle, Marguiles, Edwards, Stringfield, and Innes as the show's backbone. And that's quite a group of actors.

Tierney will be missed. I've stuck with the show through all the ups and downs and cast changes, but think it should've ended after this season. Not sure it's wise to carry on next season, but I guess we'll see. Nagra and Cardellini are still draws for me, as is Scott Grimes who continues to grow each week into a character I just love.

I just don't get why the producers wouldn't throw some money at Tierney to keep her around for the finale. Like what is going to be the finale of the show that has any kind of impact? None of the remaining actors have been on long enough or made enough of an impact to have it be a fulfilling finale.
Like I would be satisfied with the final shot being Tierney walking away alone from the ER at the end of the night. She encompasses what the show has been for the past 15 years.

I don't think I'd seen Charlotte Rae in 10 years, so I was a bit in shock that she looked so old. I know she's 82, but she looked really old in this episode.

Damn that ER! It sure knows how to kill off its characters. First Ramono has a helicopter fall on top of him during a season finale, now either Sam or Pratt are blown up in an ambulance in downtown Chicago.
Whew...didnt see that finale coming.
I dont know who is exiting (other than Tirney & Visjnic), but if I had to guess i'd put my money on no more Pratt. Good finale ER! One more year...
