We don't have an updated complete list of comedy directing contenders, so I have compiled one below for prediction purposes. Quite a few of these are confirmed, but the others are best educated guesses. A director can only be submitted once for any given series, so in those cases I just went with either the most acclaimed episodes OR the ones that were entered for writing/series OR pilot episodes for first-year series (again - best educated guesses). Comments are welcome below for the following entries...
COMEDY DIRECTING: Aliens in America (Luke Greenfield - "Pilot") Back to You (James Burrows - "Pilot") Big Bang Theory (James Burrows - "Pilot") Big Bang Theory (Mark Cendrowski - "The Pancake Batter Anomaly") Big Bang Theory (Bob Koherr - "The Luminous Fish Effect") Californication (Stephen Hopkins - "Pilot") Californication (Ken Whittingham - "Absinthe Makes the Heart Grow Fonder") Californication (Scott Winant - "Hell-a-Woman") Chuck (Jason Ensler - "Chuck vs. the Tango") Chuck (McG - "Pilot") Curb Your Enthusiasm (Alec Berg - "The Lefty Call") Curb Your Enthusiasm (Larry Charles - "The Bat Mitzvah") Curb Your Enthusiasm (Bryan Gordon - "The Freak Book") Curb Your Enthusiasm (Tom Kramer - "The N Word") Curb Your Enthusiasm (David Mandel - "The Therapists") Curb Your Enthusiasm (Jeff Schaffer - "The TiVo Guy") Curb Your Enthusiasm (David Steinberg - "The Rat Dog") Curb Your Enthusiasm (Robert B. I'm pretty sure that Pie-lette is the frontrunner in this category.
Then we might see a combination of The Office, 30 Rock, My Name is Earl, and probably Desperate Housewives for Something's Coming.
Entourage is a candidate too.
FYC EMMY VOTERS!!!
Please consider the following performances:
Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies) Julia Louis Dreyfus (New Adventures of Old Christine) Steve Carell (The Office) Hugh Laurie (House) Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother)

Don't forget about Curb Your Enthusiasm. Doesn't it usually dominate this category with at least 2-3 nominations? Also, The Office had some pretty amazing directors this season.

THE WIRE Dominic West as "Jimmy" in The Wire Andre Royo as "Bubbles" in The Wire Michael K. Williams as "Omar" in The Wire LOST Yunjin Kim as "Sun" on LOST Henry Ian Cusick as "Desmond" in LOST FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Connie Britton as "Tami" in Friday Night Lights MAD MEN Jon Hamm as "Don" in Mad Men Christina Hendricks as "Joan" in Mad Men Vincent Kartheiser as "Pete" in Mad Men

Would not mind Kevin Smith getting nominated for Reaper. He did an amazing job. But he probably won't get in.
EMMY FYCS:
Drama Series- Damages Drama Actor- Hugh Laurie Drama Actress- Glenn Close Drama Supporting Actor- Michael Emerson Drama Supporting Actress- Chandra Wilson
Comedy Series- 30 Rock Comedy Actor- Alec Baldwin Comedy Actress- Tina Fey Comedy Supporting Actor- Neil Patrick Harris Comedy Supporting Actress- Kristen Chenoweth
Here's what shows i think will get in, not sure about specific episodes:
1. Pushing Daisies - the "Pie-lette" is a shoo-in, if voters really like it they could get two episodes in 2. Curb Your Enthusiasm 3. 30 Rock 4. Entourage 5. The Office 6. Californication 7. James Burrows(for whatever series voters like the most, probably "Back to You")
-voters typically have no problem nominating 6 or 7 directors in this category, and i don't expect that to change.
I think "Pushing Daisies" will win this if it gets some other nominations, if not then it probably won't win but i can't see it being left out.
I can see californication getting mulitple noms in this category as well. "My Name is Earl" could also be back with "Our Other Cops is On", and "Desperate Housewives" could be rewared here with a nomination for crafting the most buzzed about episode of the season in "Something's Coming". There are alot of great contenders in this category.
David Grossman, “Something’s Coming”, Desperate Housewives Mark Mylod, “Welcome To The Jungle”, Entourage Jason Reitman, “Local Ad”, The Office Don Scardino, “Cooter”, 30 Rock Barry Sonnefield, “Pie-Lette”, Pushing Daisies
For Your Emmy Consideration: Kyra Sedgwick - Best Actress in a Drama Series "Damages" - Best Drama Series Zeljko Ivanek - Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series Glynn Turman - Guest Actor in a Drama Series

G'Day, I feel this is the race with the biggest frountrunner at this stage and its Pie-Lette.
I would also hope that 30 Rock's 310 gets nominated it isn't the best episode of the series or even season but the direction is great especially for the Midnight Train to Georgia extraviganza that ends the episode.
I'm assuming the Pushing Daisies, Curb, Office, 30 Rock and/or Entourage is going to make up this race.
Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series "What's Next?"

I, too expect the nominees to be Pushing Daises, The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and 30 Rock.
Agreed. Entourage has an outside shot with "Welcome to the Jungle." So if there were 7 nominees (who knows how many it will be this year?), they would be:
1. Pushing Daisies 2. Curb Your Enthusiasm 3. Curb Your Enthusiasm 4. The Office 5. 30 Rock 6. The Office or 30 Rock 7. Entourage
(with Californication waiting in the wings)
