Add this to Mia Michaels departure and this season (yes I know the auditons have been going on for weeks, but I really am only interested when they start performing) is off to a very rocky start.
I thought the numbers on the show last night were pretty good especially the Wade Robson number. Thought the tap number was really sloppy looking, but maybe I don't know enough about tap.

FYC-Album of the Year: Maxwell's BLACKsummers'night
Damn. I thought that Billy Bell might win the whole thing and thought the male contemporary dancers are the best dancers this season from what has been shown thus far.

Loved Wade Robson's piece last night. I thought it was incredibly fun.
I am disappointed about Billy Bell being out of the competition. I thought he was a beautiful dancer. This does seem a particularly strong set of male contemporary dancers, though. Both Nathan Trasoras and Jakob Karr looked great in last night's show.
I really like Karen Hauer and Ryan DiLello on the ballroom side. I think Ryan's wife, Ashleigh, looked a bit out of her element.
Pauline Mata and Ellenore Scott look to be interesting dancers to me.
I felt the hip hop routine didn't really show off these dancers. Legacy has some amazing breakdancing skills. Kevin Hunte is a great hip hop dancer. Russell Ferguson is an incredible krumper. He is the dancer I am most interested in seeing this season.
I wish the tap number could have been more dynamic. I wished for a more modern piece. Oh well.

Oh, that routine was indeed awful. However, I think Ellenore and Pauline are two of the best dancers on the girls side. I hope they get some better choreo.
Great start to the season with tons of standout performances...until the elimination part. So strange. They praised the hell out of Russell, and he's clearly one of the most charismatic performers they got...and then they put him in the bottom 2? And this Brandon kid gets absolutely screwed as he comes back for a day and a half and gets canned? Granted, I guess he was on his second life already, but it just seemed like such a waste of time. I thought Kevin (the guy who danced the cha-cha with Karen) was extremely weak. I'm wondering if putting Russell in the bottom 2 was a more strategic move for the judges to allow him to have that showcase so people would vote for him down the line. Not a bad idea.
The girls were a little more obvious, but all the girls were pretty strong I thought.
Best dance goes to Kathryn and Legacy, and I thought Channing (while she wasn't the greatest) showed amazing charisma, as did Ryan.

Putting Russell in the bottom two was very strange. Would have preferred either of the tap dance fellas be there or hip-hopper Kevin whose footwork was just OK and personally I found him cheesy. As soon as Russell was in the bottom two it was clear he was not going home so it was a waste of time.
I had said some nasty things about the jazz girls from the showcase episode but that adorable little blonde, I think her name is Mollee, was excellent in the disco number.

I am going to have to assume that putting Russell in the bottom was just the judges wanting to see him solo. LOL. Otherwise, I find it inexplicable. He is an amazing krumper. I LOVED his solo. Loved that the judges got boo'd for putting him in the bottom. Russell was excellent all the way through the audition rounds. And he was better than at least two of the other guys last night, not including Brandon, the substitute. If this was fan voted, no way would Russell have landed in the bottom. He is hugely popular on SYTYCD sites and boards.
I hope SYTYCD lets Brandon Dumlao audition again next season. This all seemed really unfair for him. Plus, I hope they let Billy Bell come back.
Mollee is my least favorite of those three jazz girls. I find her hugely annoying. I thought she was okay in the disco, but not better.
Ellenore, on the other hand, was great in her jazz piece with Ryan. These two are a really interesting pair. They are both hugely charismatic.
I thought Channing looked pretty awful in that Jive. I thought she should have been in the bottom. Her partner, tapper Phillip, did a bit better.
Peter did better in his hip hop routine than I was expecting, but it still wasn't great.
My favorite piece was Dave Scott's hip hop routine with Legacy and Kathryn. I thought that was very fun. Kathryn did pretty well for being out of her style. And it was great to see Legacy in that piece.

I didn't like either but was especially disappointed in Phillip. His leg movements should have been much sharper and quicker. He and his giant ego should have gotten a taste of the bottom two.

Jakob is a beautiful dancer, but he didn't have much of a connection to his partner or to the audience. Then again, it was a boring Tyce Broadway piece. I'll see what he can do the next couple of weeks.
Wow, another extremely strong week. The 3 couples that were singled out before the bottom 4 were the only weak links. Everyone else was absolutely stellar. Everyone was on point this week with absolutely stellar work from Jacob & Ashley, Legacy & Kathryn, and especially Ryan and Ellenore. AMAZING performance.
I figured Channing and Noelle would be the bottom 2 girls...so I was surprised to see Bianca there. And even more surprised to see her sent home. Bianca has great personality. Something that will get people voting. Plus she's performed quite well so far. Noelle is one of many contemporary dancers, and she doesn't stand out at all. She'll be gone soon enough.
Phillip was an obvious choice, even though Victor's solo was a total BAD imitation of Brandon's solos last season. Phillip has been weak the past 2 weeks, and they can't keep 3 tappers around. But yeah, I'm just surprised Bianca went.

That was a really emotional elimination. I've never like Phillip (Mr. Crazy Eyes), but my heart bled for him as he spoke about his father and how the fellow finalists rallied around him. He did deserve to go, as did Bianca, but it was hard to see how upset they were.
When Cat broke down while closing the show, I about lost it. How is she not an Emmy nominee for Best Reality Host? Apparently hosts aren't allowed to be human. You have to be a host-bot.
Really strong contemporary piece by Legacy and Kathryn, and I loved the waltz from Jacob and Ashley. But my god that hip hop number with Karen in that leather body suit...ay yay yay that was HOT. Definitely highlight of the night for me.

Yeah, as soon as he started to talk about his father, you could see Cat trying to hold it together, and she lost it at the end. She's awesome.
And, holy crap, how could I forget about Karen? (not Megan). She rocked the crap out of that hip hop number. So many great numbers tonight.

Wow this season has started out so strong. There were so many strong numbers that it really was easy to tell who was in danger. I disagree with Bianca going home over Noelle though...Bianca at least has personality and Noelle seems very bland.
My favorite routine was the Legacy/Kathryn number, but I agree about KAREN and that hip-hop number...WOW!
Also I'm not really understanding why Adam thought Peter & Pauline's Wade Rosbson piece was controversial?
FYC-Album of the Year: Maxwell's BLACKsummers'night
It seems like every time Wade Robson does a piece on this show the judges talk about how "controversial" it is. I distinctly remember a similar comment being made after Wade's "Crash Test Dummies" routine last season. Sometimes I think the judges don't understand their audience very well. They seem to think that if something is different then the audience isn't going to respond. They don't realize that the audience *likes* to see routines that are different. (Which is why Wade's routines have NEVER placed dancers in the Bottom 2/3.)
Really liked Ryan/Ellenore in that Argentine Tango. Also liked Legacy/Kathryn. I still think Ashleigh isn't very good, but I liked Jakob in that waltz a lot. I thought Kevin and Karen did a great job in their hip hop. I thought Pauline looked fantastic in that Wade piece.
I figured Phillip would be eliminated. Seems like it has been a tough few weeks for him. Can't have been easy for him to go out there and compete right after his father died.
I would have rather seen Channing or Noelle go than Bianca, though. I think Bianca brings a great spirit to the show. She was very good in week one, and was decent this week. I would have liked to have seen her try more things on this show.
Well I think top 10 will already have Ryan, Ellenore, Karen, Nathan, Jacob, Legacy, Kathryn.
