While chatting via webcam yesterday with Connie Britton, I mentioned what WIZARDS you all are at choosing the bestest Emmy eppys for judges to see. She got very excited when I said that I could post a thread here in the forums to ask YOU: what episode of "Friday Night Lights" is her best Emmy submission from the past season? Yes, the deadline for declaring an Emmy eppy passed at the end of May, but Connie doesn't seem to know what eppy was entered by her Emmy handlers. While she looks into that issue, let's hear what YOU think! Remember the three key elements of a good submission: emtional range, impact (at least one wow-pow scene) and empathy. Wouldn't it be nice to know if the eppy entered for her agrees with your consensus fave? If not, maybe she can still contact the academy and get it swapped out.

Remember, Connie recently dropped down to supporting from the lead Emmy race. We all agree that's a wise choice -- less heated competition and, as Connie notes in our webcam chat, "Friday Night Lights" is more of an ensemble show. That smart drop-down ups her odds of getting nommed, so she's a serious contender this year.

Now let's hear YOUR views on this hot issue. Memo to Gold Derby's resident scalliwags: please withhold vicious viper tongues -- Connie will be reading this . . . most gratefully.

Definitely go with "The Giving Tree." I don't think there's any episode that would be a better submission.

Oh, and since Connie will be reading this let me take the time to say that the fact she doesn't have an Emmy, let alone hasn't been nominated yet is complete horsesh*t. (The show too. It's Season 1 snub is one of those things I'll never get over.)

I agree with Bazookka Joe. "The Giving Tree" better would be her submission.

G'Day,
I thought with the rule change this year only guests needed to send a tape with their entry and that supporting and lead contenders only pick a tape after having recieved a nomination?

Checking the rules there is instruction for dvd submissions for Guest Performers but none for supporting or lead.

http://cdn.emmys.tv/downloads/...1_rulesandproced.pdf (page 41-43)

quote:
DVD REQUIREMENTS FOR GUEST PERFORMERS: Please see the DVD requirements
listed above Category 61.
Guest performers must provide a 50 word or less log line of their storyline from the ONE episode
chosen for entry and a paper copy of the on-air credits or a copy of their contract listing them as
“Guest Star.”
42
Guest performers whose storylines carry over from week to week have the option of providing a
written statement (250 words or less) explaining what happened “Previously On” the series in order
to contextualize the ONE episode chosen for entry.

Giving Tree is probably the best submission. The scene with Tami and Julie alone is worthy of an Emmy. I also loved New York, New York. Particulary when she and Eric were discussing the house and then the dinner table scene with Matt and Julie. I mean, come on. Eric and Tami Taylor are just the best couple on tv and how can you not love them both? I think if voters actually paid attention to and watched tv this season, they'd realize how amazing Connie is, how amazing the show is.

I'm holding out hope that she'll get nominated, but realistically, this is another Lauren Graham, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Greatness passed over.

I'm not sure dropping to supporting actually does give her a better chance. She made the top ten cutoff in lead actress and and failed to make the supporting actress top ten last year when she dropped down. Also, she hasn't avoided tough competition because competing in the supporting races pits her against at least three lead actors: Rose Byrne ("Damages"), and Chloe Sevigny and Ginnifer Goodwin ("Big Love").

"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide."

Definitely "The Giving Tree", the sex talk scene was one of the classic FNL scenes ever. The awkwardness of it, and how Tami was trying to sort of brush it off by keeping a straight face while asking the sex questions. And how she rambled on and on was just pitch perfect. And then the tearful end. Impact, range, and empathy all in one powerhouse scene.

727, it never was confirmed that Connie made the top ten in the first year. Since the show and Chandler made the top ten, it was assumed Connie did as well.

Hmm, it's definately between "The Giving Tree" and "New York, New York". While "The Giving Tree" has that classic scene with Tami and Julie, and is overall her best moment of season three, she has more screentime in "New York, New York" and shows more range. Still, I'd give the edge to "The Giving Tree".

And since Connie is reading this let me throw another pair of lips on her tushy and say that you are the best actress working in television. You took a role that could have been on the fringes and made it the heart of the series. I look forward to her work future work on the series ad other projects.

Congrats Kristen! All the PD haters can (SPOILER ALERT) Suck it!

One more vote for "The Giving Tree". Even though her screentime's limited, it doesn't really get any better than that in terms of performance.

Had she made the top 10 last year, no matter how low, I honestly think she would've been nominated. "Bad Ideas" was a killer tape and had everything going for her.

Noble is correct. Lead and supporting performers did not submit an episode with their paperwork this year. Only the actual nominees will submit episodes in late July. Of course, it is always smart to give that decision some thought now in case the nomination happens.

I second all the "Giving Tree" mentions. It's a perfect supporting actress submission, and the scene with Julie is killer.

It would be amazing if she managed a nod, but yeah, I'm not holding my breath. A shame, really. Britton's performance on "FNL" is one of the all-time best as far as I'm concerned. She's just so natural you forget you're watching an actress playing a role.

One more vote for "The Giving Tree." Amazing performance! In reference to "New York, New York" as a possibility, the Emmys aren't looking for the most screentime, they're looking for the most impact, which is what "The Giving Tree" provides. Good luck Connie!!!

For Your Grammy Consideration:
Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak
Adele for "Hometown Glory"
Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless
Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight
Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody"
The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' "
Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"

I agree that she should either go w/"The Giving Tree" (very like "I Think We Should Have Sex" which got her in the top 10 Lead Actress 2 yrs ago) or my favorite "New York, New York" (that scene in the house between her and Kyle was pure gold!)

Hope you get in Connie!

I actually can't remember that year if she was confirmed or not, but I'm sure that we haven't completed that list.I checked over my copy of the Top 10s, and here's who's listed that year:

Sally Field, "Brothers & Sisters"
Mariska Hargitay, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"
Patricia Arquette, "Medium"
Minnie Driver, "The Riches"
Edie Falco, "Sopranos"
Ellen Pompeo, "Grey's Anatomy"
Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer"
Calista Flockhart, "Brothers and Sisters"
UNSURE:
Connie Britton, "Friday Night Lights"
Evangeline Lilly, "Lost"

It was Britton and Evagaline Lilly who rounded off the top 10 of that yr and I think Calista got in too. Mary got in last yr. not in 07 I think.

Flockhart made it in the Top 10 in '07 instead of McDonnell. The only ones we didn't have full confirmation of were Britton and Lilly.

I'll echo everyone and say "The Giving Tree" and "New York, New York."

Either one are great choices. I think "The Giving Tree" has two moments of gold. The scene with Julie, but also that scene of her and Coach when he first tells her about what happened. The look on her face speaks volumes!

"New York, New York" does show excellent range and that scene in the new house is another one of those Coach and Mrs. Coach moments. It also features those signature little moments only FNL can do.

I agree 100% with The Giving Tree. Truly Connie's best work to date on this show. Probably the best FNL scene I've ever watched. I can't not watch that scene without getting emotional. Watching it I almost feel like an intruder on what is such a personal conversation between a mother and daughter. Beautiful work by both Connie and Aimee. Emmy voters should just hand Connie the Emmy for that.

Another good episode is Hello, Goodbye. She is featured heavily in this episode and goes through a range of emotions. Supporting Coach while going through her own struggles. Excellent portrayal of the best marriage on television.

I think a good case could be made for any ep this season, though of course some strong than others.

The finale was very emotional as well, just the looks between Kyle and Connie... they really do say more with their eyes then many actors do with words.
