"Goodbye, Toby" would have been a better choice and probably would have guaranteed them a slot. This isn't a bad choice though and will probably be enough to get them in.
Yeah, they’re going to be nominated no matter what, and although this is not their best episode, it’s actually a pretty good submission.
For Your Consideration:
Outstanding Drama Series: Lost Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Hugh Laurie (House, M.D.) Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series: Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters) Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Zeljko Ivanek (Damages) Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Chandra Wilson (Grey's Anatomy) Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series: Glynn Turman (In Treatment)
Outstanding Comedy Series: The Office Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Steve Carell (The Office) Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series: Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?) Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Jeremy Piven (Entourage) Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies) Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series: Will Arnett (30 Rock) Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series: Elaine Stritcht (30 Rock)
This will play really well to voters that don't normally watch the show. "Goodbye Toby" is the best episode of the season (and funniest, too), but "Local Ad" is incredibly solid as well. They could have picked a lot worse, so I'm happy with the decision.
"Goodybe Toby" has to be one of the best episodes of the series.
But "Local Ad" was the best ep in the mess of a first half of the season, and it had that "Michael isn't an ass" moment at the end of the episode that could help.
Originally posted by MissyGal: Local Ad was good, not great. Goodbye, Toby or Money would have been better choices.
Ultimately, it doesn't matter. They could submit 30 minutes of Steve Carell making a sandwich, and it would be nominated.
I actually wouldn't mind watching steve carrell as michael scott make a sandwich. It sounds pretty funny. He probably has a really crazy and specific way of doing it that is totally pointless and forces him to take 30 minutes.
I actually thought Local Ad was quite funny, and a good ensemble piece.
It should rightfully get them in. I would have preferred the deposition as their submission though.
This epsidoe is so funny! It is not the best but it has something that this show can sometime use its heart. Loacal Ad ends very well it is kind of a cohesive poignant moment for this show.
I think The Office will win comedy series this year.
With Dinnery Party, Local Ad, Goodbye Toby, Fun Run in their arsenal it really is theirs to lose IMO.

Local Ad isn't a bad choice at all. Granted, Goodbye Toby was an [obvious] knockout choice, but at least they didn't go with Survivorman. In fact asides from a few slip ups like [said] episode, The Office stands a decent chance at a second win, they really do have the tapes to win.
Tape A: Fun Run & Money Tape B: Local Ad & Branch Wars Tape C: Did I Stutter & Goodbye, Toby

Tape A: Fun Run & Money Tape B: Local Ad & Branch Wars Tape C: Did I Stutter & Goodbye, Toby
I think I want to switch it up just a little, if only because having four episodes from the first part of the season seems damn dangerous to me.
Tape A: Money & Local Ad Tape B: The Deposition & The Dinner Party Tape C: Did I Stutter & Goodbye, Toby
Every hour long but Money is a dangerous proposition considering their uneven qualities, and I think that while the middle tape is a bit intense I think that combined with The Deposition it might balance out into a cohesive little story point...but I haven't watched the two episodes back to back, so maybe I'm wrong.
This submission is MUCH better than last year when The Coup was chosen. The Office will be nominated.
Plus, this is the episode I was pulling for the whole time. It's a hilarious self-contained episode. "Goodbye Toby" was funny, but the end of it included plotlines that wouldn't mean much to non-regular viewers.

"Goodbye Toby" should have been the choice, but I think it's correct to say that a number of episodes would have done the trick to get them into comedy series b/c of its quality and popularity.

Guys, the hour long episodes take up their own tape. You can't have two hour long episodes or one hour long with a half hour episode. They either have to choose one hour long episode on a tape OR two half hour episodes. The ideal choices for them...
TAPE A: Local Ad & The Deposition TAPE B: Dinner Party & Chair Model TAPE C: Goodbye Toby
The Office submitted THE BEST EPISODE OF THE SEASON! Thank god! It seems to be that the producers of The Office and Pushing Daisies are the only ones who want to win emmys... Here's the thing about "Local Ad," it is awesome... but better than that, it is directed by JASON REITMAN, the academy award-nominated director for JUNO! There's a name that is recognizable now! But I have said this all along, The Office's best tape is "Local Ad" and I'm so glad that it was chosen over (the almost equally as awesome) "Goodbye, Toby." Both episodes are awesome, but "Local Ad" was overall the best! GOOD CHOICE 'OFFICE' PRODUCERS!

G'Day, This isn't the best episode of the season (so far I'd say Fun Run but I haven't seen Goodbye Toby).
However of the episodes I have seen Local Ad is their best submission. It is self contained, funny, showcases the whole ensemble and has a touching and well rounded conclusion.
Actually it is a good mix of the office's unique comedy and storytelling conventions with a narrative arc that would be expected on a traditional sitcom. This should play well to the panel.
Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series "What's Next?"
