I doubt Lost will be back. Wasn't there a similar case last year where one judge said he ranked Lost as number one? Despite that, it still didn't get the nom. This year won't make any difference.
It'll be cool if Lost gets back to the final five though.
FYC EMMY VOTERS!!!

Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies) Julia Louis Dreyfus (New Adventures of Old Christine) Steve Carell (The Office) Hugh Laurie (House) Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother)

I'm not shocked in the least that "Boston Legal" played well. "Mad Men" being well received is not shocking either since I'm betting some of the male voters have led a life similar to "Donald Draper."
Grey's scored high in the popular vote, no lower than 3rd I'd bet, but if it gets in at the expense of "Lost" I'd be very disappointed.

Can't say any of this news surprises me. I knew BL would be a hit with the voters. The Wire news bums me, but it's not surprising. Here's hoping the Lost news is right, and Grey's doesn't get in. That would be very nice. And while both totally deserve it, I'm still not 100% sure both Damages and Mad Men will get in. They'll go from 0 non HBO cable shows ever nominated to 2 in the same year, both new shows to boot. It's just hard to wrap my head around that.
Thanks, Tom. Keep up the great work.

Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over— an analyst and a therapist. The world’s first analrapist.
Hmm, I was hoping for a more shocking report. I think it's now surprise that these are the names being tossed around for nods. I guess the only semi-dishy tid bit is that Grey's could actually get a huge slap in the face via a snub.
I guess I was hoping that FNL or The Wire actually had a chance to breakthrough. Boston Legal and House nods year after year is a snoozefest and Damages and Mad Men is not surprising considering the award nomination patterns so far this year.
Judge No. 1 has given some additional thoughts I just added to the original blog report, if you've already read the first version -- see what's after the jump section:
Am I the only one surprised with few reaction for Friday Night Lights? We thought that episode was great. But it happened also other times, like last year with "My Musical" from Scrubs...
No Six Feet Under and The Shield in 2006, no Deadwood and The Shield in 2007, no Big Love in 2008..how the best shows don't even make the top ten list?
If the Emmys are so proud of the way they nominate now then why don't they release the names of all the voters who watch & grade these screenings then we can see if they are worthy of the honor or actually unemployed actors or writers or worse network people.
I'm so thrilled to see Damages go over so well. And please let his Lost praise get to the other voters! It seems like both judges were impressed with it. I would personally love to see judge No. 1's predictions be the actual nominees. The reason I included Boston Legal in that is because it gives chance for any of the other four to win. It's kind of amazing how I wouldn't be upset by any of the other four shows winning. That's definitely a first.

No surprise that voters ate up BL – they knew what they were getting into when they placed it in the popular list. Actually, I think this was the best season of Boston Legal and the first time it's worthy of a Best Drama nomination. The novelty of having non HBO cable shows might help Mad Men win, but I think BL will take home the gold this year.
Based on both reactions which I read looking for every positive and every detraction, we have three basic locks for a nomination.
Damages, House and Mad Men.
After this Boston Legal is probably the next surest thing but one judge did place them 8th, and who knows how they did popular vote wise. I'd say overall they probably have the nomination and one voter may not be a measure but maybe the detractors might harm its chances.
Then after Boston Legal I'd say it is race for that fifth spot between Grey's and Lost. I would rather see Lost in there, My gut tells me that the final show will be Grey's just because of the popular vote I think the show will probably make it back.
Lost really has a shot and based on those six I wouldn't mind the nominees excluding BL, but I think as long they do Emmy bait every year we are stuck with them.

I think that voters needed to have seen both parts of "Grey's Anatomy"'s season finale to get the full effect of it. It short-changes voters to think that they would be too tired to watch both episodes in the panel viewing. It's sad that they ate up that hammy episode of "Boston Legal", but whatever. I'd love to see the basic cable shows make it in finally. I was always on the bubble with "Damages" making it in, but it's looking like that could actually be a reality now. They were smart to go with the pilot episode as their submission choice. Same for "Mad Men", though I've had them in my predictions since last summer. I like hearing that the "Lost" viewing went well. It validates the idea that "The Constant" was a strong episode choice and that voters can get something that's somewhat out of their comfort zones when the work is done well enough. It shouldn't be an either/or between "Lost" and "Grey's Anatomy" though -- both have earned their series bids this year. Oh well, it is what it is. "Big Love" should have been in the series mix this year.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I don't think the popular vote will get Grey's in. The buzz on that show is SO BAD. It was bad last year, and it's worse this year. At some point that has to catch up to the voters, right?
I'm interested in seeing if Mad Men AND Damages both make it in, especially since they're both non-HBO cable shows. Mad Men probably placed pretty high in the popular vote and will probably place pretty high in the panel vote as well, so it will be in.
On the other hand, is Damages really that popular that it placed in the top 3 or so on the popular ballot? It seems like it's going to place high on the panel vote, but could the popular vote hurt it?

In terms of the popular vote, Damages probably placed higher than The Tudors, The Wire, Friday Night Lights, and Dexter, at least, so that should be enough. Plus, it'll ranked first or second in the panel, easily, so I honestly think it's a lock to get in. I've heard nothing but good things.

Very true.
IMO, I think we can forget about The Tudors, The Wire, FNL, and Dexter. Those shows had to get number 1 or 2 on the panel vote to even have a chance at all, due to the fact that they most likely placed in the lower tier of the popular vote.
