Bummer not to see Chi McBride. He was the only one not on the list I was hoping to see. Is Jeremy Piven going to win again? Maybe NPH or Rainn Wilson can win?
I've got big chunks of the last two lists we're waiting on lead comedy actor (8 of the 10 names I have) and supporting comedy actress. There are 12 names on the latter list -- I think there's a mistake, so I'm double-checking before I release. No, none are SNL gals. Mostly the usual suspects: I'll tell you these three confirmations I have: Elizabeth Perkins, Holland Taylor, Vanessa Williams.
On the lead comedy actor list, Kelsey Grammer is NOT there. However, Lee Pace is. I'm waiting for some clarifications today -- then I'll publish both lists and we'll have everything in lead and supporting.
I have a few guest categories, too -- will get to those a bit later. Sarah Silverman's on the female comedy one!
Wow, gotta love the fact that with Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton on his show, Fred Willard is the only one that gets a pre-nom. I'm sad that Chi McBride didn't make it and kind of shocked that Justin Kirk did. I still don't think this changes anything:
Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother John Krasinski, The Office Jeremy Piven, Entourage Rainn Wilson, The Office

FYC: Mad Men and Damages, the two best shows to come along in a while!
Yay for Jack McBrayer! Hope that he can somehow make it in, though I'll be predicting Tracy Morgan instead. Surprised about Justin Kirk making it in. No Chi McBride is a disappointment, as is no Ethan Suplee. I didn't expect Fred Willard there, but everyone else is about as is.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... Chi McBride got snubbed! And crappy Tracy Morgan got in over him. This is an outrage! McBride was the best on Pushing Daisies and deserved a nomination the most out of all of them... Well, lets hope for next year! I still can't believe it...
2009 Oscars FYC:
Lead Actor - Richard Jenkins, The Visitor Lead Actress - Sally Hawkins, Happy Go Lucky Supporting Actor - Haaz Sleiman, The Visitor Supporting Actress - Amy Adams, Doubt Original Screenplay - Thomas McCarthy, The Visitor
Eh. So Fred Willard gets the undeserving vet slot in this category. I really wish that there was room for Jerry Ferrara, Jeff Garlin, or some Ugly Betty guys, but this looks like a pretty solid list overall. Now, if only Krasinski can make the final cut this year!
I can't believe Chi McBride was snubbed. He was the only actor from Pushing Daisies I was predicting to get nominated...
And I'm also surprised with Fred Willard. There was a time there I was predicting him, but with the show getting cancelled I bet on only Grammer (I'm shocked he didn't make it) and Heaton.
This is honestly a tough list to narrow down...but to start I will say one thing Piven's tape is not that strong. That is Entourage's series tape and he is not in it a lot. He has sympathy goign for him in it because he tries to do something for his son, but boy is that a weak tape...but I digresss
The five men will probably be John Cryer-Two and a Half Men Neil Patrick Harris-How I met Your Mother Jack McBrayer-30 Rock Jeremy Piven-Entourage Rainn Wilson-The Office
the fifth nominee is a puzzle to me because Kevin Dillon is out I know they won't go for him again. I think the fifth nominee will be from 30 Rock and I am going to to go with Jack McBrayer. Krasisnki's tape is not that great, but I'd nominate him over Cryer it annoys me that he is in this category like Byrne from Damages they are both leads.

Chi McBride not getting in is such a shock that i didn't notice it the first time i went over the list. I just assumed her was there. This may mean that Chenoweth is going to have alot more trouble getting a nom than i thought she was going to, and that PD may be left out in the cold on emmy morning.
Tracy Morgan was expected, but i don't think he deserves to be here over McBride, Devito, or Urie. I like his show, and the character he plays is well written, but his performance is one that irrates me to end. I've only liked him in one episode of his show "The C Word", and that wasn't even this year.
Predictions: 1. Jermey Piven 2. Neil Patrick Harris 3. John Cryer 4. Rainn Wilson 5. John Krasinski
The top three are locks. If voters went for cryer's tape last year (which was hilarious but quite off putting) then there is no reason to assume they won't this year. I don't think Piven can win with his tape (though i haven't viewed it edited down, which could help him), he just comes off too much as a jerk and this time it isn't that funny it's just upsetting. I would have prefferred Krasinski to submit "Goodbye Toby", or an episode more centered on Pam, but that tape should do the trick. I can't remember what Wilson did in money, but it should be enough to get him in. However, i wonder how long it will be until voters tire of his character. Jack McBayer could be a suprise nominee and Dillon shouldn't fully be counted but he doesn't have the tape to make it in. NPH didn't submit his best work, but he should still be able to win.

totally disagree! after winning the award for two years showing ari's funny, nasty larger-than-life side, this episode lets jeremy piven show ari as that same character but more emotional as an ashamed father - i think it is a fantastic choice and when i watched it last summer assumed it'd be his submission

Actually, "Branch Wars" was an excellent tape for John to choose. His character isn't over-the-top like Steve's or Rainn's but in "Branch Wars," he's able to pull off the whole set of emotions and comedy. I mean, the awkward scene with Karen in her office... it was perfect. Plus talking to Michael on the walkie-talkie in the car... yeah, it's a very good submission for him. While "Goodbye, Toby" was good, it's not great. He doesn't get a lot of screentime, even if it was an hour long.
For Rainn, "Money" is a very well-played submission. It's not over-done like last year's "The Coup" and like John's submission, it showed a very good range. On top of that, it's an hour-long, which edited down give Rainn good screentime compared to other episodes.
For the two of them, each of their tapes also gives the other good scenes because they do interact with each other in them. For Rainn, the car scenes in "Branch Wars" give him some humor while for John, the stairwell scene in "Money" give him some heart.
