Strong first episode. Definitely worth the wait. I Love Love LOVE the chemistry between Celia and Rudolfo! That was an unexpected and pleasant surprise.
MLP is just such an amazing actress. She so deserves an Emmy for this series.

The 1.22 million viewers for the fifth-season premiere of comedy "Weeds" was the largest audience for a single airing on the pay cabler so far this year.

I thought the episode was nice, it was fun and it was great to have everybody back including the Walt-like growth that Alexander Gould went through, it's very very funny seeing him on the show now when it's been like 2 hours of the show's time after last season's finale.
I thought the jokes built around Celia's daughter being willing to kill her and sell her organs was just too nasty to be funny. Also, the actress playing the daughter was just not good enough to make such a loathsome character funny.

I agree. The actress playing Quinn is a weak link in an otherwise stellar cast.

This was kind of an uneventful premiere. Nothing interesting happened, even though the stuff with Celia had some funny moments. And they need to lose Doug. He's not funny and he's only taking up space.

I completely agree. Kevin Nealon should've been canned after Season 3. The writers have clearly run out of ideas for his character.
I think this season premiere was bleh. Nothing happened. The writers should take Nancy back to Agrestic. I'm scared that "Weeds" has lost its mojo. Season 4 was weak and their premiere didn't make me hopeful.
BUT --- the great Jennifer Jason Leigh will be on next week so hopefully that'll get things interesting.
But I'm glad they're resolving that awful Celia storyline quickly. The actress who plays Quinn can't act. Elizabeth Perkins was good, though and the Celia gag was kind of funny.
I thought that season 4 was excellent -- one of the series' best. I hope that this season doesn't stagnate, but I'm generally optimistic with where they're going with things.

I think "Weeds" was brilliant during its first two years. Season 3 was strong as well, though it had its missteps. I kind of hated Season 4 because it stopped being funny. Plus, I was repulsed at what they did to Celia's character. Elizabeth Perkins is a good actress and Celia Hodes could be an iconic supporting character (much like Karen Walker and Samantha Jones), but the writers are struggling on how to write for the character.
The season 4 reboot was a brilliant move on the writers' part I think, though it took the show in a direction that you're either with or not with. Other shows have tried to pull similar moves with mixed results, but it all brought out the best in Mary-Louise Parker at least, and I liked seeing her navigating in that new terrain.

This episode was really broad. Too broad at times. I found the kitchen scene with the fight not funny at all.
I like the chemistry between Kevin Aljenadro and Elizabeth Perkins. I hope they play with that this season.
This episode had its moments, but it was just okay for me. The scenes between Bichir and Parker are still hot. However, I don't like the position Nancy has gotten herself into. In past seasons she would be out of her bind in the first 2-4 episodes, this feels like we're going to have an entire season of her in danger and clashing with Esteban which doesn't seem too fun.
I love 'Weeds'. I think seasons 2 and 4 are the series' strongest so far. Like so many fans, I'm really over Kevin Nealon. Of course all the plot lines are over the top, but there is no reason for Doug Wilson to still be hanging around the Botwins. Elizabeth Perkins did a great job in season 4, even though Celia's arc was sort of .....blah.
Anyway, I'm not super impressed with the season 5 premiere. They need to make it interesting again, and fast. Weeds isn't known for it's 'filler' episodes, and this definitely was.

And see that's been my main problem with "Weeds" since Season 4. A lot of their more comedic material just isn't funny anymore. I thought that fight between Shane and Silas was just dumb. I didn't laugh once. Remember the days when "Weeds" was really, really funny?
And I hate to beat a dead horse but I'm still bitter that the producers dumped Heylia, Conrad and Venita. They provided some nice comedic relief. And they were good in those roles.

Well, once again, they set her up with a GREAT plotline in season 4 culminating in that great episode 5 (I think?) with the faceoff between Nancy and Celia...but then, instead of bringing Celia into the main plot, they set her off on her own minor plotline again. I don't understand why the writers haven't brought Nancy and Celia together. When this show first started, I thought that was going to be the result from the get-go...and the writers have had tons of chances, but they just don't do it.
I also can't believe how every season starts so strong then drops off in the second half. It's like clockwork.
