All three of the 'Grey's women will return despite the sharp decline in quality, ratings, and interest by voters?
That's what it says.
I know their your opinions, but can you tell me why you think neither Byrne or Gay Harden will get in for Damages? Is there just not enough room?
Just curious.
I don't think that either one has the tapes yet. Rose Byrne couldn't get in last season with the panel vote. Marcia Gay Harden's probably the best bet with name recognition and the popular vote, but I just went with other people instead.
Congratulations, Primetime Emmy Winners!

As soon as you get anything remotely relating to spaceships, monsters, etc, when shown outside a normal dramatic paradigm, like law enforcement on the X Files, the Emmys simply have a gigantic blind spot.
Which makes the fact that the first two Star Trek series both got drama series nominations even more remarkable.

As such, whatever your own personal preference...24 has been, in all its seasons, superlatively exciting. Pulse-pounding, even. So, I say, YES, it is, at this moment, for all those reasons, a lock for one of the slots in Best Drama (top six).
If that were the case it probably would have been nominated for its 6th season. Lock means 99-100% and with such a crowded field of past nominated shows that are all bringing great drama this year (Boston Legal, Lost, Damages, Dexter, ER, Mad Men) and House still in the race, the only show you can really call a lock is last year’s winner Mad Men. I would predict a 24 nomination at the moment but it is towards the bottom of my 6.

W/ all of the good press it's received this year, it should have no problem whatsoever slipping in. I bet it knocks out Boston Legal. Sure, the Academy loves that show, but it's been off the air for awhile now, and maybe they'll finally forget about it.
It’s season 6 snub surprises me, because as bad as the season was their submission (the premiere) was a really strong episode. It may have still just made the top 5 but I have to believe it took a significant hit in the popular vote. What it knocks out is really hard, as you state Boston Legal may be forgotten, it’s unclear whether 3 non HBO cable shows can get nominated under strictly popular vote, House has possibly always relied heavily on the panel vote and the voters may be confused by this season of Lost.

They've repeatedly ignored the supporting cast, and of course it failed to get a nom when it was last eligible. That might have been a terrible season, but sense it just won series and actor thr year before, it's still a telling snub.
I think its win may have been a 'finally'. Getting out the way the rather inevitable. Its only main competition was "Grey's Anatomy" and I don't think the academy ever took that seriously. Now that the show has won the voters may be over it.
That year they loved 24, it won 3 top awards and Sutherland was able to win despite having a lousy tape and being up against Sheen and Krauser’s last shot at the thing, and 2 supporting actors got in under popular vote. Also, not many dramas have picked up 5 best drama series nods. Also they had tough competition that year. West Wing likely came a close 2nd that year, they had really strong tapes, had a resurgence in nominations, a very emmy friendly cast, was a show the academy loved and it has now become apparent that the acadey were never crazy about Grey’s.

Originally posted by happyegg The main problem for 24 is that its very rare that a show gets back into the series category, be it drama or comedy after having been passed over for a year.
Lost is the exception to the rule.
Very good point happyegg. Lost last year is the only example of this happening for a drama series in the past 15 years. Once a show is off the radar it is hard to get back on.
Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series "What's Next?"

It will never happen. For one thing, the drama lead actress & supporting actress categories have way too much competition. Plus, actors from the CW don't get nominations.
For Your Grammy Consideration: Kristin Chenoweth - in all eligible categories
It's amazing that The United States of Tara appears on so many lists in this thread as the show is practically invisible outside of these forums. I don't know anyone who watches it. Maybe this is one of those shows that has a lot of buzz in LA but nowhere else.
Interestingly, The Big Bang Theory, the third highest rated comedy on television (after Two and a Half Men and Desperate Housewives) is hardly mentioned at all. The show is easily the funniest show on television nowadays and it has plenty of high quality tapes to submit. Look for it to surprise a lot of people when the nominations are announced. Best Comedy Series, Best Actor and Best Guest Actress are practically guarantees. It even has a chance in Best Actress and could snag a longshot Best Supporting Actor nomination.
FYC: "Up" for Best Picture and Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director

I was thinking that too, Big Bang does deserve some kudos for Kaley Cuoco and Jim Parsons especially.

I think it's a show similar to That 70s Show, in that it may be seen as too 'hip' and 'young' to factor in when the show and a few of the actors deserved nominations.
But I don't see the love for Cuoco. She is barely passable and always has been, IMO.
"Family Guy" may have a chance at making a nomination this year, it did make it into the top ten last year. This is one of the shows that the popular vote may help out.

I don't think any show on CBS can be considered hip or young, but I think it will be laregely ignored just like How I Met Your Mother. I could possibly see a Best Actor though...series seems a bit of stretch since it didn't get top ten last year (did it?)

We know that the Emmys take a while to invite some actors to the party, but once you're there, you pretty much stay there forever.
So for Supporting Actress Drama, I'd say the same as 2008, plus Kathering Heigl who'll be back (even though her storyline this season was controversial). That would leave:

I agree with you that Heigl will probably be back this year but I have a feeling Chandra Wilson could be left out. Her character has had a mild year in terms of storyline and I don't think she's as popular as people think. Here's how I think it will play out:
SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES: Candice Bergen, Boston Legal Rachel Griffiths, Brothers & Sisters Katherine Heigl, Grey's Anatomy Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men Sandra Oh, Grey’s Anatomy Dianne Wiest, In Treatment
Assuming Elisabeth Moss goes Supporting, I think she would have a better shot of not only getting nominated, but winning. Just this scene in "Meditations on an Emergency" could give her the win.

In many cases this may be true but is not always the case, just ask Jamie Pressly and Terry O'Quinn who both last year failed to make the top 10/11 in the popular vote after winning the previous year.
I'm wondering if any of last years winners need to start worrying - Cranston? Smart? Wiest?

Just so everyone knows, after watching this latest Law & Order: SVU episode, Cicely Tyson doesn't have a shot in hell of getting nominated. So just remember for the future to not predict based on name!
