From Associated Press...

The presidential election will mean extended duty for NBC's "Saturday Night Live."

The show's 34th season will kick off on September 13, allowing it to have seven live outings before Election Day on November 4. That, in turn, will result in a season order of 22 episodes, two more than usual.

In addition, NBC will schedule three half-hour episodes of "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday" at 9:30 p.m. on October 9, 16 and 23. Also, the night before the election, there will be a 90-minute "Saturday Night Live Presidential Bash 2008" to give the campaign a last-minute satirical spin.

Boomer, the Sept. 27th episode is not a repeat. They are doing 4 shows in a row. October 11th is a repeat and the 18th is a new show.

1. Amy Poehler has stated that she will remain on SNL for the first half of the season.

Major point to consider: Do they hand over the Hillary Clinton character to Kristin Wiig should Obama name her as the running mate (Huffington Post broke the story that she is, in fact, being vetted for the position)... this becomes particularly complicated should he win.

2. I also must repeat my previous suggestion of handing over Weekend Update to Bill Hader, who will come back to SNL with appearances in Tropic Thunder & Pineapple Express.

3. Host Predictions: Jack Black (Premiere touting Tropic Thunder or Finale promoting Year One), Ricky Gervais, Tracy Morgan, Jimmy Fallon (almost a lock), Jennifer Aniston, Rainn Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Michael Cera, Josh Brolin (a lock if "W." opens before the election.)

Token Athlete: Venus Williams

Token Political Guest: They'll repeat last year and go with a news reporter. My wild card guess is Chris Matthews.

I'll predict that NBC will try to get either Greg Kinnear or Lauren Graham hosting around the time of Flash of Genius will be released (that's October 17) or one of the Changeling cast aka Angelina Jolie or John Malkovich (due out October 24).

I second that!! As much as I love all the other cast members, he's the one I most look forward to seeing week after week!

Other news I picked up during the SNL session of the TV Critics week (some you may have heard; some probably not)...

Amy Poehler will not be a cast member anymore starting in late October or early November (date based on the birth of her child). By the way, she is going to try her best to be at the Emmy Awards, but SNL has a show that Saturday night AND she will be close to 8 months along.

Because the season is starting a little earlier than usual, NBC is ordering 22 episodes instead of the usual 20 episodes.

All other cast members have been retained for the new season.

Lorne Michaels and his staff will hold auditions for new "featured" cast members in August. Their goal is to hire either 2 or 3 new people for the show.

They have not decided yet whether Seth Meyers will get a new "Weekend Update" co-host or if he will host solo for the remainder of the season.

With Amy leaving the show, I really wish they would get Will Arnett to host one of her final episodes (Sept or Oct).

I have also been predicting Stephen Colbert to host the past couple of years, so why not keep predicting him until it happens?

It has been a very long time since Glenn Close hosted, so when her show returns on FX she is a strong possibility.

Of the former cast members, I can certainly see Jimmy Fallon hosting next spring and a return by Robert Downey, Jr. (having the best year of his career). Molly Shannon's new NBC show probably guarantees her another shot.

I think it may be a safe bet that Arnett will in fact host before Amy gives birth in late October. He said just last month that he'd love to host the show before she leaves.

Yeah, my only reason for not including RDJ in my predictions was because he's supposedly shooting Sherlock Holmes in October.

BUT now that I think about it, he really is the best choice for the season premiere.

I really hope that Amy Poehler is at the Emmy Awards. I would love to see her there!

And I agree that Will Arnett should host the show before she leaves.

I think Meyers hosting WU solo would be a great idea.

Or, they could replace Pohler with Wiig. I'd like that as well.

Maybe if she wins the Olympics or the US Open. I have to say (as a huge fan of hers), I wouldn't be opposed to this. I find her to be incredibly charming. Funny? Well, I'm not so sure.

I thought they didn't go for women over 40 on SNL.

Hayden Pannettiere? Yes.
Mariska Hargitay? Not so much.

That's untrue. In the last couple years Annette Bening, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Molly Shannon and Megan Mullally have hosted.

Guys, they literally just released the first couple of hosts and guests!
lol Your predictions are true, Robert Downey Jr. hosts the premiere and Katy perry is the musical guest.
The next 2 weeks are sort of a let down. James Franco and Kyra Sedgwick. After that though, the athlete is Eli Manning (no shock, his bro hosted 2 seasons ago lol).
Then Josh Brolin.
No word yet on whos afetr them, but thats really a pretty good line-up I think.

Do you have a good source for any of this info??

According to her website, Katy Perry is overseas from at least September 10-30.

Also, Eli Manning wouldn't be available to host until at least late February.
