I am not sure if any academy or industry types read these boards, but in case they do I wanted to drum up support for Breaking Bad for best series.
I know all the screeners have been sent out and all the FYC ads are running, but I am not sure how much of a push AMC is giving this series. And also, any extra attention this show can get is probably a good thing, no matter how miniscule it may be.
I think Breaking Bad has ascended to being one of the six best Drama shows on TV today. While last season was a showcase for Brian Cranston with a much deserved emmy win, I think the show took it to the next level this season. From start to finish, I thought the season was pretty damn good and I'd put it up against any other drama this past season.
While the show originally started out as a story about a drug dealing teacher, it morphed into so much more this past season. I think all the actors did a superb job this past season, especially Anna Gunn (Mrs. White) and Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman). I would consider Paul to be one of the breakout stars of the past TV season and a hopeful nominee for supporting actor. Each charcter added depths and layers that made the show better. I also thought the show did a great job of handling and using several characters without becoming convuluted or overly busy, unlike Damages, Desperate Housewives, or Heroes. While Breaking Bad continues to focus on Walt White and Jesse Pinkman, every other character adds something interesting that makes the show better.
I also loved how by the end of the season the show morphed into a character study about people who have made some questionable choices and how those actions and consequences effect family, friends, and the people they come across. To my knowledge after the episode in which the two guys drive out to the desert and cook like mad for four days (episode 9), making and selling meth was barely mentioned the last 4 episodes. I also think Vince Gilligan has answered his critics who wondered how long this show can run with this premise, and I think the answer is a real long time.
So for any emmy voters or emmy fans, please consider and support Breaking Bad for Best Drama series 2009.
This would be hands down my list for best drama series:
Big Love Breaking Bad Dexter Friday Night Lights Mad Men The Shield
very close to make the cut: Damages, In Treatment.
In 2009 the three best TV female performances in a drama series were all snubbed. Shame to Emmy voters for not nominating January Jones, Alison Pil and Chloe Sevigny.
From your lips to God's ears. "Breaking Bad" is the drama series of the year.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
Yes! That would be amazing. I'm not predicting that, but if it somehow were to happen, it would be one of the best Emmy surprises of the year (along with Aaron Paul's nomination -- I'm anticipating Bryan Cranston to return).
Congratulations, Primetime Emmy Winners!

24 fell farther and rebounded even farther back to its old glory, so I'd put them in there instead of Breaking Bad. I guess I think there's not a need for 6 nominees, because if the Emmys would just look outside the box, past their hard-on for HBO, there's other stuff out there that deserves recognition.

I watch more comedies than dramas these days but "Breaking Bad" would be my choice as the year's best drama. Last year "Mad Men was my choice by a county mile but the last season of the show was a mixed bag and the deliriously shocking "Breaking Bad" has it beat. Actually my second choice would be "Dexter" with "Mad Men" coming in third.

1. Mad Men 2. Friday Night Lights 3. The Sheild 4. In Treatment 5. Battlestar Galactica 6. Breaking Bad
"Lost" even be slightly behind "Dexter" and "Big Love".
Lost is so overrated this year..

At the very least it should be nominated. If it is, and voters actually watch the episodes, it should win. IMO, nothing else on tv came close to matching Breaking Bad this season.
Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over— an analyst and a therapist. The world’s first analrapist.
I actually think IT WILL get nominated this year. I feel like it became this really big watercooler show that everyone was watching and buzzing about this year. After being nominated for a couple Emmys last year and winning Lead Actor in a Drama Series, I can definitely see Breaking Bad as the second AMC series to be nominated in Drama Series. I think if something like Dexter could suprise last year, I bet Breaking Bad can get in.
For Your Grammy Consideration: Kanye West for "Heartless" and 808's & Heartbreak Adele for "Hometown Glory" Taylor Swift for "You Belong With Me" & Fearless Maxwell for "Pretty Wings" & BLACKsummer'snight Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody" The Cast of GLEE for "Don't Stop Believin' " Mariah Carey for "Obsessed"
Breaking Bad was maybe my favorite show of the year. I think this season was brilliant. It is incredibly deserving of a nomination for "Best Drama Series". I sincerely hope it gets nominated. A popular vote makes me very nervous, though.
Wow. I've only ever seen the Pilot episode of the first season for Breaking Bad. I take it I should start catching up, huh? Sounds like I'm really missing out.
Any ideas as to where I can watch the two seasons online? Hopefully for free...

Yes, you've definitely missed out. The first season was very good, but the show didn't ascend to a place of greatness until season two, where it established itself as a masterwork just about from episode one.
To catch up, I'm not sure if "Breaking Bad" is available online, or you could use a program like BitTorrent to find it. It's worth it.
