SERIES PREMIERE—MAKE MY PIT A PARK— From Emmy Award-winning executive producers of “The Office” comes a new mockumentary that looks at the exciting world of local government. The documentary cameras follow Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. In an attempt to beautify her town Leslie takes on what should be a fairly simple project: help local nurse Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones) turn an abandoned construction pit into a community park. Leslie is alternately helped and undermined by her colleague, Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari), who cheerfully exploits his government position for personal gain. She is also thwarted by her boss Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) who is philosophically opposed to government in any form. Helping Leslie and Ann navigate the Pawnee bureaucracy is charismatic city planner Mark Brendanawicz (Paul Schneider), whose outlook has been soured by 15 years of public service. If they can pull it off, Leslie hopes that she also will have inspired her uninterested college intern April (Aubrey Plaza) and April’s whole generation – all the while moving one step closer to her ultimate goal: becoming the first female president of the United States. Well, I think the show looks funny. I'll certainly give the pilot a try. I would think with the pedigree behind (and in front) of the camera, this show would be getting better reviews.

Considering the show is replacing the truly horrid Kath & Kim, it couldn't help but be better.
I thought it was amusing when it wasn't being annoying and naive. It definitely wasn't very funny and it's still a clone of The Office which is far superior.
Still, NBC could do a lot worse but they could also do a lot better.
FYC: "Up" for Best Picture and Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director
My first thought was, well at least it wasn't as bad as Kath & Kim. That said, I hope it improves because Poehler deserves so much better. I didn't really like the first few episodes of The Office, so we'll see how this goes.
Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over— an analyst and a therapist. The world’s first analrapist.
this is dumb, looks like Amy got the Female SNL curse..All the funny ladies of SNL can never find a project that fit their talents..except for Julia Louis-Dreyfus..
I know this is off topic, but when will Rashida Jones play a black character? Her dad is Quincy Jones and her mom is white, but in all her roles she is playing non- black characters, so except for her role on "Boston Public" she mostly play Italians..just a thought i had..
There are too many up-tight gay people on this borad..They need to get laid.. holla at me and if your in my area maybe I can help you out..

How exactly does one play a black character?

You guys really didn't like this? While it wasn't an instant smash with me, I definitely laughed throughout and could see all the potential. I thought this was funnier than the episode of the office that followed it, easily. No doubt in my mind. The first scene introducing Leslie, Tom's condolence to Rashida Jones' character in the classroom, the fall down into the pit, the mural and the party at the end where Leslie gets drunk were all highlights for me. This show just needs a couple episodes to figure out its pace and tone, get settled a little bit.
Poehler is a genius. Once she gets going, she's not gonna be able to be stopped. It would be a complete shame if she were one of those "SNL women" who gets lost and cant find the right projects. She's way too talented for that. And these writers are the best at what they do. Maybe the Pilot wasn't the best they've got. There's a lot of comedy in politics and I really think we need to give this more of a shot. It has a lot going for it and I think people are getting all caught up in the advance word and their preconceived notions instead of letting the show stand by itself. I truly believe we'll be pleasantly surprised with it.
