Season 5 Premiere: Bahamian Rhapsody After Barb was thrown in jail by immigration during Richard's and New Christine's disastrous wedding, Christine and Matthew head to the Bahamas to try to get her an illegal visa.
Funny start to the season. JLD was fantastic. Her airplane antics were just hilarious, especially taking our the inflatable lifevest as a pillow. And Sykes still hits every oneliner out of the park. I loved Christine's throwing herself at the glass when she saw Barb. I wonder how "New Christine" is going to stay on the show? B+

Solid start in the ratings as well. Premiered with 7.6 million viewers. Last season, it premiere with 6.4 million.

The scene with Christine first seeing Barb behind the glass was really funny. Then her blowing up the inflatable vest for a pillow was great. Louis-Dreyfus needs another Emmy.

Burning Love When Christine and Richard meet up with some of their friends from college, they are shocked to see how much they've aged.
Even better than the premiere as the B-story (with Barb, Matthew, and New Christine) was very funny as well. JLD just nailed all this stuff tonight. She was hilarious in her sex preparation. A-

"Bahamian Rhapsody" Very funny premiere works best when Christine is with Barb in the detention center and then with Matthew on the plane but drags a bit when Richard is moping. A great start to the season that takes the show in a fresh direction. Best Moment: The scene in the detention center MVP: Louis-Dreyfus Grade: B+
"Burning Love" Even better than the premiere, the excellent Richard-New Christine breakup plotline rebounds with two excellent stories. The first is Old Christine trying to help Richard out of his blues by getting him back together with the old gang in an exaggerated but undeniably amusing manner and the B-story (which actually works better than the A-story) that finds Barb and Matthew trying to help New Christine move from bizarre apathy to more healthy rage regarding her breakup. Best Moment: Richard: "But hate is the cousin of love" New Christine: "And hate is the sister of murder...Get off my property" MVP: Rutherford Grade: A-
The premiere was very funny. THe vest being the best part.
The second episode rocked because of New Christine, Emily Rutherford was amazing in this episode, easily her best performance on the series.
And yeah Rich, the like about hate, love, hate, murder was the best line...
The show hasn't been insanely funny as season 2, 3 for example, but it's consistently funny, it's one of the best comedies out there, I'm glad that it's getting higher ratings...
Definitely more uneven than the first two outings, this one struggled with its tone. The opening scene in the bathroom had an odd rhythm and a couple running jokes fell flat and weird (most notably Richard getting aroused every time he thought of Old Christine dying). With that said, Louis-Dreyfus was brilliant yet again, especially in the hospital scene, which was the highlight to me. The way this show deals with current issues in a manner that is not forced or preachy always impresses me. The B-story, Richard and Christine duking it out over the old house had a cliched resolution, but featured amazing work by Rutherford, who gives her second great performance in a row after 4 seasons of being ho-hum.
Best Moments: The scene in the hospital and New Christine being German MVPs: Louis-Dreyfus and Rutherford Grade: B
Yeah, I liked that they tackled the issue of health care here. It was a clever episode...but it needed more laughs I think. JLD is always hilarious, and the ending of this story (the smooshed brownie bit) was perfect. I agree that Rutherford has been great this season so far. Loved the german thing. Why isn't Matthew gay? that's pretty much the best question of the show. I have more doubts with him than with Sheldon on Big Bang...Matthew is the gayest non-gay character on t.v.
I don't know if it's the way Linklater plays him or it's the fact that they're taking Matthew's non-manliness to extremes...sometimes he's just too gay.
Dreyfuss can sell the hell out of the most ridiculous situations, like being paranoid because she thinks she's bling, pregnant and has cancer all at the same time. And she did it like four times during the episode.
As for Rutherford, yes, this is her best season.

Funny that this came before last night's episode in which he wore women's clothes because he said he looked good in them.
Barb and CHristine's divorce was hilarious. Christine's list of five things that were all the same thing just worded differently was really funny.

Very funny episode. Loved all the divorce stuff. Glad the writers really ran with it. B+

"FOR LOVE OR MONEY" The rhythm was definitely off in several scenes but there were several great moments (detailed below), most notably any scene with the lawyers. It was also very nice to see the Meanie Moms get some screen time in an interesting way.
Great Quotes: Christine: "Today I realized what's been holding me back my whole life" Matthew: "Addiction?" Christine: "No" Matthew: "Narcissism?" Christine: "No" Matthew: "A short attention span?" Christine: "What are you eating? No, I'm too much of a giver" Matthew: "No"
"What am I supposed to do, lie down and take it? It's not college" - Christine
Lindsay: "You're our new therapist!" Matthew: "I can't. It's illegal. I don't want to. I'm booked up. I'm dying"
"Your mean client is trying to intimidate my crazy client!" - Christine's lawyer to Barb's lawyer
"DOCTOR LITTLE MAN" This very funny outing is absolutely on fire whenever Old Christine and Dr. Max (excellent guest star Eric McCormack) share the screen but the rest of the episode is weak. The beginning argument between Christine and Matthew is contrived, the subplot between Richard and New Christine doesn't work, and the absence of Barb is conspicuous after the last episode was all about her and featured her marrying Richard.
Great Quotes: Christine: "What's Facebook?" Matthew: "You're gonna love it in about 30 years"
"Don't mess with me. Are you finally getting help? Is the nightmare over?" - Matthew to Christine
"I'm a better kisser than I am a therapist. And I'm not even that good a kisser, says my therapist" - Dr. Max
"Remember last night? Massage oil? 4 hours? The neighbors called to see if our guinea pig was okay?" - Richard to New Christine

Yeah, another fun episode. It's interesting how far they are moving away from focusing on Christine as a Mom. Ritchie has hardly been a presence on this show this season or last season. And the Meanie Moms have only been in one episode so far. They've really moved away from the "school" aspect of the show. Anyways, very fun episode with Christine acting as Matthew's secretary, and Eric McCormack was a fun addition. I didn't even notice Sykes wasn't in this episode. B+

This show hasn't hit it out of the park yet this season, but every episode has been very solid, and this one was no exception. The Richard/Matthew storyline seemed rushed, but it worked. Nice to see Marion Ross. Given that ending, is she back again next week? JLD owned this. She just plays this so well. B

"The Curious Case of Britney B" Another underwhelming outing in season six, Louis-Dreyfus did a good job of playing her plotline but it never got the laughs or depth that it could have and it was inexplicable that Richard (who would have been equally ecstatic for Ritchie to be popular) was in a B-story that had nothing to do with them. In fact his B story with Matthew was quite lame, unrealistic, and wasted Marion Ross. As detailed below there were some very witty lines, with Christine, Barb, and the Meanie Moms making this a passable episode.
Grade: B- MVP: Louis-Dreyfus
Some Great Lines: "I figured it was a Make-a-Wish Foundation thing" - Lindsey "She likes boys. And softball. And field hockey. And Hilary Swank. Oh God" - Lindsey "2 pounds away from sitting in the front seat!" - Christine re: Richie Christine: "I'm so proud of you. Being popular is the most important thing in the world" Ritchie: "I thought you said it wasn't" Christine: "That's when we weren't popular" "I know how to talk to kids! I'm just going to go over there and have a convershizzle" - Christine "She reminds me a lot of myself at that age - except for the clear skin, smooth hair, straight teeth, straight spine, inner confidence that keeps her from making out with her typing teacher" - Christine Agnes: "I'm not going to go to a nursing home because old people make me sick. Where else can I go?" Matthew: "Heaven" Richard: "Good luck"

That was a funny line. I wonder if Marion Ross is back next week.
