Boomer, thank you so much for letting us know! I wonder why the Academy needed so much time to determine the producer credits this year.
As thedemonhog mentions above, they seem to have gotten rid of their rules. According to the Emmys website, the maximum number of entrants is eleven for comedy series, ten for drama series and five for miniseries and made for television movies.
"House" has 19 credited producers and "The Office" has 18. That's insane! I wonder whether people like Ben Silverman, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Bryan Singer and J.J. Abrams actually function as producers or they retain "honorary" credits because they were involved in the development and launch of their programs. They seem to be so busy with other projects that it's hard to picture them working regularly on a time-consuming broadcast network series.
I didn't know Hugh Laurie was credited as an Executive Producer. Hmmm, I noticed he was credited as a Producer in the credits last year. Good for him.
And yeah, I am pretty sure people like JJ Abrams, Bryan Singer, Gervais & Merchant are getting more "honorary" credits.
Kind of crazy that House and The Office have so many producers listed. More than LOST even. Although, outside of Abrams and Burk, I can probably name the exact job that all those listed producers do for LOST.

Hugh Laurie is not a producer in any form. I double checked the episodes from last year by watching the credits sequences for "Unfaithful" and "Both Sides Now" and Laurie was not listed as a producer or executive producer. I then checked the official websites for Fox and NBC Universal Studios and IMDb and Wikipedia. Lauire was definitely not an (executive) producer in season 5. Good for Laurie if he is being promoted, but this is category fraud.

Burk was instrumental in the editing room. Last year, he moved to Fringe and took over the equivalent role there, I believe.
Yes, I have seen Laurie's name in the credits, too. For at least one season, he was just a producer. This past season he was listed as an executive producer.
I don't have season 5 House dvds, so I can't check very easily. But, I am pretty sure Hugh Laurie was credited as a producer in at least episodes 2 and 3 of season 5.
