Michael Ausiello broke the news just about an hour ago; V will run for four weeks starting with its November 3 premiere - and then go dark until next March.
I guess if you want to be charitable one could look at it as an opportunity to sample "V" before the Olympics juggernaut consumes everything.
But otherwise, what kind of money would be lost by just postponing the series until summer or next fall?
I just had this discussion recently about "Commander in Chief" a few years ago. Sometimes you just have to say, "We need more time than we first anticipated."
I realize NBC doesn't have a lot on its bench to fill what would have been the slots for "V" but c'mon, already: You own Bravo, the SciFi network. Repurpose something.
Swear to god: NBC should let a bunch of us from GoldDerby program the damn network for a season just to see what happens. We can't do any worse.

V is on ABC.
Oops, really? Kinda funny that I automatically assumed it was another NBC fail. Heh...

Great job ABC. Way to kill another show before it even premiered. Seriously, don't they remember the huge dent such a large break made in Lost's viewership in the third season? Can't they just show all the episodes in the spring? My only hope for this is that now maybe it can be a lead-out for Lost and gain some of their viewers.
Who knows, if the show generates alot of buzz and leaves off with a huge cliffhanger, it could still come back strong. Maybe the could hold off until the spring, but maybe they have a plan... Lets just see how it plays out.
My website and blog are taking a little break, since Geocities is closing and I now have to upload everything to a new site, so I am working on a new design and it is gonna take me a while, hoping to get it up by Oscar Season.
Apparently only three episodes including the pilot have been filmed thus far. Also, I read this a couple of weeks ago, but I never saw it discussed here: Jeff Bell is no longer V's showrunner, while Scott Peters has been promoted.
I hate to say it, but I kind of think this makes sense if they have only produced 4 episodes so far. Before filming a whole bunch of extra episodes why not see how the show does. If it bombs then ABC can cut its losses without having a whole bunch of unaired episodes on its hands. Now it could back fire if they show really takes off...people these days seem to have a short attention span so delaying it that long could be a huge problem. It is a gamble, but lets face these days it is MUCH more likely a show will get the ax then be a huge success

I do wonder what's causing all the delays. Is it script related? SFX related? cast related?

I think that people did not read my post above. They have only produced three episodes so far and the reason for the pause is that ABC is not happy with the writing, so they demoted and promoted and there is now a new showrunner.
From what I have gathered the problem with V is the following: When V was picked up in May it was supposed to be a midseason replacement with a 13 episode order and those 13 episodes were supposed to air straight through like any other conventional arc show on TV. This was apparently also still the case around Comic-Con where the producers already talked about their planned (and conventional) outline for the first season as well as their overall (conventional) outline for the entire series. But then somewhere along the way ABC changed course with this show and wanted it to be more like an event series. I guess it's still supposed to have seasons of somewhere between 13 and 22 episodes as well as a series long story arc but apparently they want to have miniseasons within a season now and all those miniseasons are supposed to have a beginning and end of their own and they want to air those miniseasons spread out all over the year with the first one being aired in November. That means the writing staff has to completely retool everything they had outlined and planned for this show and all that in an extremely short amount of time. It's no surprise that they are forced to shut down production repeatedly under these circumstances.

This is quite interesting: it appears that ABC is pulling out all the stops for marketing the show.

ABC plans giant skywriting campaign to promote 'V' By James Hibberd, 'The Hollywood Reporter' October 16, 2009
ABC might not be able to simulate spaceships hovering above cities as in the show's premiere episode, but the network came up with the next best thing to promote the launch of its alien-invasion drama "V."
Starting Friday, skywriters will create giant V's across the sky at 26 U.S. landmarks.
The network is mum on where and when the V's will strike, but such places as the Statue of Liberty and the Capitol Records building are under consideration. The skywriting will be done multiple times a day at each site until the series launch at 8 p.m. Nov. 3.
"V" is the final new fall broadcast drama to debut. After four episodes, it goes on hiatus until early next year.
The 'V' over landmarks sounds interesting, but is it legal to do it over places like The Statue of Liberty anymore?
I really like the promos I've seen all over ABC, and I'll definitely be tuning in. The part where the alien girl says "Please don't ask us any questions that will paint US in a negative light" has me hooked. Why does she keep saying us?
I watched every episode of the original series, and I was hooked. I think it ran for three years. The fact that Kenneth Johnson is back and writing for this remake strikes me as a good sign. I hope he doesnt lose the vision of the original. It wasnt perfect, esp in the final season, but it was compelling.

Those commercials look so pretty on my HDTV, but I said the same about Flashfoward and got lost after the first three episodes. This show will fill in something to watch on Tuesday (still trying to find the time to watch The Good Wife and Sons of Anarchy).
Count me in as might be checking this out.
