Where are the fans for this show? I recently got into this show and I think it's pretty damn funny. I don't have a problem with Jon Cryer's win at all.
But why is there so much disdain for this show? Is it because the humor is crass? Is it because the show doesn't really appeal to gay audiences?
I don't get it. Many posters around here praise How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory, but I think both of those shows stink, especially the former. Mother is just so bland and unfunny. BBT is ok, but the laughs are too few and far between for me. Out of all of CBS' sitcoms, TAAHM is consistently funny. I like it more than New Christine and I'd love to see Charlie Sheen win an Emmy, too. Like Cryer said last night, "He makes it look easy."
TAAHM is really funny, and it was much funnier from about seasons 2-4.
However, I think all the hate comes from all the emmy nom love they used to get. Really, they weren't outstanding comedy series materiel. The actors are pretty good, but Cryer didn't really deserve his win and when Conchata Ferrell was nommed over MUCH MUCH better actress it was a crime.
Honestly though, I don't get all the Charlie Sheen hate. I think he's great in his role and always finds a way to deliver. I actually thought he had the strongest or the second strongest tape in his category in 2007.
However, HIMYM is a much better show than TAAHM.

I like Two and a Half Men and was just fine with Jon Cryer's win. I also want Charlie Sheen to win one of these years. I'm a fan of all the CBS comedies. I watched all the season premieres tonight including the series premiere of Accidentally On Purpose. I have to say CBS comedies are actually funny and provide more laughs than NBC's comedies. CBS should have 3 best comedy nominees, hopefully it has at least 2 next year.
I personally hate this show. I think the reason a lot of people hate it, myself including is that the show really does make no attempt to appeal to anyone except the mainstream audience. It isn't a very original, clever or smart show. It's low-brow in every sense of the word. It has almost no snob appeal. And i think the fact it continues to get nominations over more upper crust shows irks some people.
Praying The Daytime Emmys air on TV in 2010!

I liked the first couple of seasons of Two and a Half Men, but after that it just got rather old and tired. It is what it is, but its on all the darn time so I can't avoid it even if I wanted to.
I don't for the life of me see the appeal of Big Bang Theory but whatever.

It isn't smart, creative, clever or original in any way. It is low brow and crass. Am I not allowed to dislike it for those reasons? I'm not gay, so it has nothing to do with that. Though, I am a woman and I find it more than a bit misogynistic.
Of course, I don't like The Big Bang Theory either. And I think How I Met Your Mother is average, at best.
I'm not sure if 2.5 Men is Emmy material, but it's really funny. All the characters are brassy and say or do something some people might find offensive.
Jon Cryer is really great last season, especially the second half of the show. The fact that there is so much hate is really personal. Some people hate Charlie Sheen and his lifestyle in real life and some hate Jon Cryer for his recent homophobic comment.
Folks can't stand the fact this particular comedy is embraced by TV viewers far and wide while other shows that are way out there like Arrested Development and Flight of the Conchords are either 1)cancelled or 2) whose total viewership could fill Grauman's Chinese with room to spare, respectively. And Cryer didn't earn any friends on here with his out-of-order comments earlier this summer.

Well I think that 2.5 is one of the best bad comedies on tv. It isn't particulary funny but it can be amusing, the acting isn't amazing but it isn't bad (except for the kid), it isn't clever but they have their moments. I think it is a much better show than 'Til Death, According to Jim, Joey and alike. That being said getting any award nominations let alone wins is laughable and I think that is what gets all the hate. I think if they never got the big emmy nominations and this year a win then I would have been content with it's other sucess.
Also, I think the Chalie Sheen hate is a bit too much. He's good for what the role is. Should he be nominated? No. But it is a weak field and he isn't bad.
Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series "What's Next?"

I haven't watched the show from start to finish and won't (life's too short), but I've seen all of the show's acting submissions, and that's given me enough of a gauge to determine if I'll like the rest of the series or not. And I know what it's like to love a show here that everyone else hates. It's not fun, but at least I'm judging my hate off of more than one or two episodes, but from multiple seasons. There's only been one time where I thought the work rose to something Emmy-worthy, and that was one of Holland Taylor's submissions (and that might be reduced to what that category was at the time too). The show itself is low-brow, crass, uninspired, and lazy. I could say that at least what they're doing they've found the right formula for success in, and if people find worth in that, then so be it. I have my "30 Rock" and "The Office", etc. instead, and I'm perfectly fine with that. But as long as the competition stays the way that it is, I'll never think that "Two and a Half Men" will rise to the level of true awards worth. If Charlie Sheen outlasts a couple of people in lead actor comedy, maybe. But Jon Cryer's win is one of the worst wins the Emmys have given out with who they could have picked instead.
Congratulations, Primetime Emmy Winners!

I don't mind it, although it can be frustrating.
I'm going to miss defeding Boston Legal's nominations to everyone else on the board, it was fun.

I love HIMYM and Big Bang Thoery, but I cant' stand Two and a Half Men.
The first couple episodes I saw I remember thinking, eh. Average show.
But watching any more than half a dozen and you realize they're all the same.
The humor is way to low brow and crass for my taste and the jokes are super predictable. Even the first time I watch an episode I can pretty much guess the jokes before they happen.
Also Lol @ Noble. Really saying it's better than Til Death, According to Jim, and Joey is about all the positive things I can say about this show too. Those three might be the worst sitcoms of the past decade. They make me ashamed to be an American that those got on the air. (And in AtJs case stayed on for 8 years...)

You would love doing stuff like that, but I find it tiring defending shows that I know people don't watch enough of to say that it's worth absolutely nothing.

Disdain for "Two and a Half Men" on this message board is hardly a fuction of not having enough gay appeal. What is required for a show to "appeal to gay audiences"? I watch shows that are good, whether they appeal to my gayness or not.
Crassness is part of it. But crassness can be funny in the right hands: "South Park" is a prime example and one of the funniest shows on television. "Two and a Half Men" is the wrong hangs. I've watched less than a handful of episodes, but that's enough. Maybe you'll think me not enough an authority to call the show a miserable cesspool on the basis of so few viewings, but I wouldn't subject myself to more of it just to prove my point. I hate the obnoxious characters. I hate the witless writing. It's unfunny and unpleasant. I hate the show because I think it's terrible. There's nothing more to it than that.
However, I have also expressed my dissatisfaction over "The Big Bang Theory" and "How I Met Your Mother," which I find overrated, and both much more generic and bland than their abundant praise indicates, though compared to "Two and a Half Men" they may as well be "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "All in the Family."

I don't hate it exactly, I have seen the occasional rerun in syndication when there is nothing else on, but it is crass and each episode is basically the same jokes told over and over. It reminds me of brainless 80s sitcoms, say "Perfect Strangers", where you knew the jokes that would be coming out of people's mouths before they said them. Not thrilled CBS is keeping that kind of stuff around... or that people seem to eat it up. Still, it is not the kind of show that should be nominated or winning any awards.

I love Two and a half men and How i met your mother and the big bang theory. I'm also a gay man and I'm okay with Jon Cryer's win. Do I wish he hadn't of made that comment? Yes, but it still doesn't mean he didn't do good work last season on his show. Two and a half men is really funny. I mean they are able to get away with a lot of stuff.
Conchata ferrell is one of the main reasons that i watch the show because her one liners are so over the top and so hilarious that i can't help but laugh my butt off.
30 Rock I like a lot, but it's not a show that's like "OMG, that's the funniest thing ever.", it's more a show like, "That's funny" and then you move on. This is probably why the ratings for the show are in the toilet, the american people know it's not one of the funniest shows on television and no matter how many times the Emmy's try and tell them that it is they still won't watch.
