The Mighty Rogues is probably the guaranteed submission for the Emmy. Bergen was excellent, Spader has one of his best acting moments ever (even though The Chicken and the Leg might be his submission for actor), Shatner had some great scenes. Larroquette was a highlight. Christian Clemenson was very good. The scenes where he put the fake cigarette in his mouth for confidence and Katie would take it out was hilarious. Better than Angel of Death!
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

I totally agree. Did anyone else see this episode??? This would be a KNOCKOUT submission for Candice Bergen and James Spader (who delivers one hell of a performance in the courtroom...tears and all). I didn't really like Boston Legal at first, but this past season has truely been excellent. I will not be suprised when Boston Legal ends up being nominated for a boat-load of Emmys and even if it ends up winning Best Drama Series. I never thought I'd say this, but it actually deserves to win (well, at least behind The Wire...but we all know that will never happen).
Emmy FYC:
THE WIRE Dominic West as "Jimmy" in The Wire Andre Royo as "Bubbles" in The Wire Michael K. Williams as "Omar" in The Wire LOST Yunjin Kim as "Sun" on LOST Henry Ian Cusick as "Desmond" in LOST FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Connie Britton as "Tami" in Friday Night Lights MAD MEN Jon Hamm as "Don" in Mad Men Christina Hendricks as "Joan" in Mad Men Vincent Kartheiser as "Pete" in Mad Men
G'Day, this is good to hear. As a Boston Legal fan I can't wait for the next season to hit down under, they've started advertising it so it shouldn't be long.
Like last year, this should be viewed as a real dark horse to win.
Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series "What's Next?"

Tonight's episode was as good as last weeks great episode. It is a great one two punch and shows BL should win the Emmy for Drama. I think what will hurt it is ABC being iffy on renewal and next weeks move to Wednesday for two weeks where it will be crushed by CSI NY and Law and Order. It's only hope is that WMC does worse than it does after the DWTS results show and BL is brought back.
I think Spader is going to win Best Actor again. Hamm could win or Hall could but I think Spader again. The only thing they could do is vote BL for drama as an award for Spader and the whole show and give someone else Best Actor.
I have no idea what their submission should be. This weeks or last weeks because both could not only get them the nomination but possibly the win.

I think Spader was A LOT better last week. He took care of shirley in her time of need and relating the case to Denny was truly something powerful.
The scene where he bashes the judges, while good, was completely ridiculous. No lawyer, not ever Alan Shore would ever ever do that.
And, this episode wasn't as powerful for spader as his last death penalty episode was because it wasn't as personal for him and didn't focus on the client. He will get a nom with last week's episode.
I still think they should submit Beauty and the Beast for series though, but this weeks episode and last weeks episode have more emotional gravitas.
G'Day, Although the opinion that BL have some episodes that would make great submissions is good news to me (assuming I agree when I see the episodes and season), this article has me a little frustrated.
First he complains about the Emmy-bait nature of Boston Legal. Then he specifically refers to those moments as what was great about the episodes and slams any part of the episodes that is not Emmy-bait.
What sets BL apart as a series is that it isn't just a baity melodramatic legal drama that likes to get up on a soapbox, but it always undercuts those mements with some of the zaniest, out there comedy on television. I understand what turns some off, but it is worth giving credit to those moments of the show for turning it from a boring, self-important, liberal wet-dream to a truely original series that is responsible for its passionate fanbase and industry support.
I have no problem with someone thinking FNL, Damages, Lost, The Wire, Mad Men, The Shield and Battlestar Galactica (having seen more of the series in question Roush is more qualified to give comment than me). What I have a problem with is the fact that BL gets the brunt of the blame for threatening to take away slots from these deserving shows. Grey's Anatomy is assumed by many to be taking a slot this year and it is having a terrible year. Add to that the fact that on its best days it is an emotional, melodramatic, traditional medical drama with self obsessed characters that uses tried and predictable narrative conventions. It dosn't try to make television as original, unconventional and rasie the level of public debate that Boston Legal does every week. Heck, House (which is having a great year) should be under the same scrutiny as BL.

I've said this many times before, but I love this show. It's absolutely hilarious and aces in the drama dept. as well. I dont get all the hate for this show. It's gotta be from people not watching. I don't see how anyone could hate this show.
Anyway, as far as Emmys go, this season has been fantastic and the show would deserve every single nom it got.
James Spader could win with "The Chicken and the Leg" and so could Candice Bergen with either "Do Tell" or the episode dealing with Shirley's father which title eludes me at the moment.
Shatner will more than likely be nominated as well, but if Clemenson is in Supporting Actor too I'd like to see him nominated first.
Congratulations 2008 Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings!!!

I never really paid attention to Boston Legal until this season, but I'm so glad I started watching. It always impresses me and is highly enjoyable. I'll admit I was in the "contempt for the show and Spader" club when they kept getting popping up at award shows, but I really appreciate both the show as a whole and Spader based on what I've seen this season.
I absolutely loved the episode last week with Candace Bergen's father and the euthanasia debate. Spader was amazing in the court scene.
I love the Spader/Shatner moments at the end of the episodes.
I have to say that in each and every episode however, my absolute favorites are Katie and Jerry. Christian Clemenson is perfect and I'm so in love with Tara Summers.
G'Day. Having now seen the opening 2 epiosdes of the season I can say that if it is a sign of the season to come it will be more than deserving of a series nod (and possibly win). It had the perfect mix of comedy, political commentary, emotion, drama and engaging legal plot. This is also the most well rounded and brilliant cast the show has ever had, and rivals all other network shows. The only one I don't like is the girl with the neck. Laroquette and Shatner look like they will deserve to make the top 10. However the nomination should belong to Christian Clemenson so far, who has made the transition to supporting actor incredibally well. He has such a great emotional and comedic core.
News of the show going into a 5th season will only boost its drama series prospects and Beauty and the Beast would be a great submission (with the extra length being an added bonus), although I am psyched to see the rest of the season. The Innocent Man would be a good tape but hopefully he'll have better.

I haven't see any of the stuff this season so far but I'm happy to hear the positive reactions to Boston Legal.
As for my question, do you think Candice Bergen will now submit her name this year because she finally had some materials to do this season? Remember it was her reason why she withdrew herself last year.
FYC EMMY VOTERS!!!
Please consider the following performances:
James Roday (Psych) Julia Louis Dreyfus (New Adventures of Old Christine) Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives) John Krasinski (The Office) Steve Carell (The Office) Hugh Laurie (House)

I just read that season 5 will be the last season, and there will be 11 episodes plus a two-hour series finale. This is disappointing news, but for this show to have made 100 episodes is quite an accomplishment. I'll miss it.
So it was cancelled. That stinks. I'll take the 11 episodes and a finale as a sorry for all the pre-emptions and the first season bumping off the schedule completely.

I thought I had heard this somewhere. It just seems like such a strange treatment of a show that consistently does so well at the Emmys and stuff. I know ratings weren't great, but they weren't terrible either.
G'Day, While it is sad to hear BL has been cancelled, as it always is when one of the few shows that isn't afraid to raise the level of political and social debate and not talk down to it's audience gets the can, this I think is (partly) good news.
This must have meant ABC were close to pulling the plug all together, so that fact Kelley was able to wrangle these episodes is a testament to his negotiation skills.
Very rearely is a cancelled show been treated so well. Usually they arn't given much warning. Sure the ending is premature, but Kelley and co. will have 13 episodes to craft an amazing final year that wraps things up. A luxury that many shows not exiting on their own terms don't get and (if just a renewal had been given here) BL too may have missed out on.
What a bittersweet week for BL fans dealing with a renewal and cancellation at virtually the same time. All I know is that now I am going to savour every remaining episode until Danny and Alan sit on that balcony one last time.

G'Day, Just saw Chicken this week. Spader has a very strong closing and it is definatly enough to get him a nomination however the previos 2 episode need to be watched in order to ully appreciate the humor in his interactions with 'the neck'. He has range, impact and sympathy but the lack of a focused, self contained performance makes me think it is not a winning tape.
Without having seen them I would suggest one of the later episodes which alot of people are mentioning.
