I’ve just seen Denis Leary’s submission and I really don’t know how things will end up for him…
It’s a really good episode. It’s a very great way to start the season, with an amazing twist. And Leary (as always) is good in it, especially in the scenes in his dreams where he’s being interrogated (the first scene of the season is amazing). But I don’t think this is enough to even get nominated… He had outstanding episodes that could have give him an Emmy in the past two seasons, but this episode doesn’t even come close to those. It’s just a good episode, but not really Emmy-worthy. He will probably be in Top 10 because of popularity and he might even get the nod because of past nominations, but it’s really tough for him… Now I’m predicting that he’s only going to be nominated if the category ends up with 6 nominees and even that it’s not sure…
What do you guys think about it? Was “Babyface” Denis Leary’s best submission? It would be enough for a Writing/Directing nomination though, but that’s a long shot as well…

Babyface isn't a bad tape for Leary, but I think he should have gone for Animal, the episode with the Gavin family intervention. Leary was strong throughout, but he absolutly blew me away with the final scene with Mike on the rooftop with his monologue (and then of course falling off). It was a brilliant moment from Leary, and I think it was one of the best things he had all season, this side of the baby plot itself, which was devestating to say the least.
As for the nomination, I think Leary can make it. He won't win, but he's been a nominated for the past two years and I think he has the popularity to earn a second nod, especially since his tape isn't that bad.

Hi, I'm new to the emmy process and I have some newbie type questions, for anyone with the patience (-:. I'm confused on how the voting takes place. Is it correct that the shows submitted one episode for a popular vote, which has already taken place, and then that same episode was submitted to a panel vote, taking place right now? The two votes will be averaged to pick the top five?
If I'm correct so far, is the next step the shows pick six shows for a panel to judge? Or do the panels get the same one episode to judge for best show?
You're right, Jair. Except, the popular vote isn't based on one tape, they just pick their top ten shows. That's already happened, now they're doing the panels (with the one episode submitted), then they'll be averaged together to come up with the five nominees. After the nominations are announced, the nominees submit six episodes, on three different tapes. For example, Tape A will have two episodes, Tape B will have two episodes, and Tape C will have two episodes. Those tapes are randomly distributed to the voters (so one voter may get Tape A while another gets Tape C). They vote. Then the winner is announced.
Hope that helps. =)

Now that I’ve seen the entire season of Rescue Me, I have to say this. I really don’t know what Denis Leary was thinking when he submitted “Babyface”…
The season is not as bad as I’ve read through the internet. Is another solid season for the show and it still is one of my favourites. And “Babyface” is a really good episode, an amazing way to start the new season and Leary has a few good scenes in it, but is nothing compared of what he did in the other episodes. I may be exaggerating, but I think any other episode would be better than “Babyface”, especially “Seven” (which is one of the best episodes by any show I’ve seen this year) and “Solo”, the best episodes of the show’s 4th year. Had Leary chose one of those and he could’ve seriously be considered as a frontrunner in this category. Even “Animal” would have been a better choice…
He might get nominated because of popularity, but I suggest him to change his submission…
As for Charles Durnning, there’s really nothing Emmy-worthy in his performance in “Yaz”, he shouldn’t be nominated for this one. If he ends up in the Top 5, it will be mostly because of popularity… And although she also hadn’t much to do, I would love to see Susan Sarandon’s work recognized. I guess she made into the Top 10 and she has a great submission, but I guess that’s kind of a long shot…

I don't get why this thread isn't at the top anymore....specially since the nominations are out and some of us might need it to look for the episodes we still have to watch....
I know someone asked this but I forget, actors are not allowed to change their submissions right? They must stay the same? If so, I want to start watching the actor Emmy submissions and get an early start.

All of the episodes for nominated actors/actresses are listed in the Emmy predictions thread. I just figured nobody would want to look down a massive list of names now that the nominees have been announced.
