Ok I'm a little confused. As I understand the series will be nominated on popular vote without screening the tapes. So are these actual submissions or not really till they get nominated?
Is there any reason to send these out other than buzz?
These are just screners sent out to Academy members (sometimes large groups; sometimes smaller branch groups) to get buzz and gain some votes towards nominations. The networks or studios can send as many episodes as they want. These episodes may or may not be the ones they will submit if nominated in July (but probably so in many cases since they consider them to be good enough for the screeners).
That's a good selection of episodes, but I'm very suprised they left out The Mountain King, which was one of the best episodes of the season and probably Hamm's best of the season, too.
Also, if I was new to the show or only a casual viewer I would be really confused by the change in the story and the characters between Six Month Leave and Meditations without Mountain King to explain it.
I wouldn't mind if that ended up being their official series submissions. Still, I would scrap "Three Sundays", an episode that's a bit too stolid and little cheesy. "The Mountain King" should definately be in there. It was at least the third best episode of the season (after "Meditations in an Emergency" and "The New Girl"). Maybe they want to completely avoid the California episodes or highlight the female cast.
I don't think continuity would be much of a problem though, since everything significant that happens in "Meditations" is bridged with events that occur in "Six Month Leave". It's not like they continue digging into Don's past.
I was thinking a little bit about Billie Piper's placement and I can see now why they put her in drama. The title of her show doesn't sound comedic and it might interest some voters to see it. I hope that on the screeners are episodes form 2nd season because that season was far superior to 1st one. I'd pee on my pants if she got nominated somehow. God only knows that she gave the best performance by any actress this season. I also heard that Showtime's president is a big fan of her, which is nice to hear. I also love, simply love the idea of putting Leisha Hailey into leading category for "The L Word" along with Beals and Holloman. This season was more about Bette & Tina and Alice characters than anyone elses. Mia Kirshner was rightfully this time put in supporting category. I know that those girls don't have any of a chance getting nominated (but God knows they deserve it!), but at least they are put in right categories. As for "Mad Men" ladies I hope that Weiner read out posts and talked Elisabeth Moss into going supporting. The girl needs to know what's best for her (and for January's) interests. As for "Prayers for Bobby" placements I'd put Ryan Kelley in leading, but he has a better chance in supporting. Whatever the case the boy deserves a nomination.
"24: Redemption" is listed as a television film on the first page, but the rules this year should have it being submitted as a regular episode with the rest of the season 7 episodes. Which one is it being campaigned under?

I really like those episodes. Although I was really hoping they would only send out one episode like last year - "A Night to Remember". That way, voters who watched that one episode would see how great January Jones is.
Originally posted by Bazookka Joe: Disc 2 is great showcase for January Jones. I can't see any Emmy voter watching those 3 episodes and not voting for her.
But considering that voters are pretty busy, I think some may just choose one episode to watch before voting, and only watch "Three Sundays", which is great for the show and Moss, but not so much for Jones.

Really? Moss was much too quiet. Her story was more about the mechanics of the plot than a performance. Jones gets couple of great, showy scenes.
Congrats Kristen! All the PD haters can (SPOILER ALERT) Suck it!

I agree. Jones as Betty has the growing frustration all episode, culminating in that explosive scene with Don at the end.
I think the selection of episodes shows why Moss won't go supporting. Jones is all over disc two, but Moss has the big roles in the New Girl and Maidenform, while Jones only has a few scenes in both of them.
I still wish they'd submitted The Mountain King over Six Month Leave.
