I didn't see a thread yet, so apologies to the usual thread-starter. (For the curious, we began combining "SV" and "SPN" a few seasons ago.)

"Supernatural" season five opened last night; "Smallville" season 15 (ha-ha) has another couple weeks.

"SPN" was pretty damned good; the slashfic shout-outs were hilarious.

And that line about the show's mythology -- "nice change-up with the angels; the demon stuff was getting old" -- is funny. But the omnipotent angel stuff is wearisome at this point. They're good, they're bad, they're all-powerful, no they aren't. Whatever. Just bring on hottie Castiel and whoop some ass already (and we got some of that, too).

Oh, and the premiere of "Vampire Diaries" was a hit (for the CW) and lifted "SPN" to 3.4 million total viewers.

Did anyone else catch the The Vampire Diaries?

I read the books when I was quite young, and always thought they were a bit unrealistic as vampire stories go.

If you've read the series you'll notice that many of Twilight's vampire-related storylines/legends seem to be directly influenced by this series.

The show itself was, marginally entertaining at best. I wasn't expecting much and my gut was right to set the bar low.

They changed a few of the supporting characters, removed a few, yet added some that were not in the series.

I found most the acting to be mediocre at best, but thought the boy who plays Matt, was very effective and memorable with limited screen time. The girl who plays his sister (a character added to the show) also did a decent job. Makes one wish they were the leads instead.

I added "The Vampire Diaries" to this thread. What the heck, we can make it a CW-genre catch-all thread. I thought someone would have started up a TVD thread, but I guess not.

I loved The Vampire Diaries, it reminded me of a show on The Wb...very 90's. Not surprised it did well, the pilot was one of the best so far and the acting is actually good. Also Nina Dobrev is a star in the making, the new Blake Lively.

BUMP.

Just in case anyone wants to comment on "Supernatural" ep. 5.2 ("Good God, Y'all") or "Vampire Diaries" ep. 1.2 ("The Night of the Comet") tonight.

wow, The Vampire Diaries gets better and better. I'm really liking all the main characters. (Elena, Bonnie, Caroline, Stefan, Damon, and Matt) I like the show's usage of music too. I wish it had a theme song though.

The death of Mr. Tanner shocked me. No more scenes of history class perhaps.

Thursdays at 8 is pretty solid--Flash Forward, The Vampire Diaries, and soon Community.

The ending was strange, the Mayor and Sheriff seem to be implying that Elena is some kind of danger to the town.

I wonder if she IS Katherine but doesn't know it, in some weird way I can't explain yet. LOL

They've been pretty faithful to the book series, so I won't mention what that group is but the series is still just "ok" to me.

I think my lack of enthusiasm has more to do with the lackluster writing than the acting. The acting is fine.

But the books are marginal at best and the show writing doesn't improve on it.

But, because I do feel some sentimentality to the books, I'll continue watching.

Add me to the list of 'Vampire Diaries' fans. I watched the pilot out of sheer curiosity, and also because 'Dawson's Creek' is a guilty pleasure. I wasn't expecting anything better than 'Twilight' and was happily shocked. Every episode seems to start off just fine, but then about half way through, they always take off!! The chemistry between Stefan and Elena (BTW, Nina Dobrev is my favorite new star of the year!) is awesome and all the supporting actors kill it. I agree with the people who say this show is reminiscent of The WB in the 90's, and that was good TV. Ian Somerhalder has been very good at playing the love-to-hate character. Overall, just a great, great show that is on my must watch list. If the CW keeps making shows like this, they may finally establish themselves.

This is such a great show. I freaking love it.

The ending has me very excited for the next episode to learn more about that group of people. Why is the watch so important? And what about the stone Damon took and Caroline had at the end? etc.

I'm glad Caroline didn't die. I liked Bonnie's reaction to her lighting the candles with her magic.

And Damon was reading Twilight lol.

I just wish this show had a theme song. Metric's "Help I'm Alive" would fit perfectly. There's a nice youtube video with it.

Dammit, but "Supernatural" is such a f**king awesome show. The pitch-perfect writing, the balance of humor and horror, tech aspects, all top-notch. (Even their weaker episodes are entertaining.)

Tonight's ep involving an ancient forest god juiced by the Apocalypse and inhabiting the form of celebrities and famous people who promptly kill their superfans...gruesome and hilarious in equal measure.

The Paris Hilton stuff totally worked; give the girl credit for playing along with the joke. I forgot Jared Padalecki was in "House of Wax," so that in-joke was appreciated.

How the fetch does this show have only three measly Emmy nods? (Sound Editing and Music Composition in 2006, Sound Editing in 2008). Ridiculous. Hey, "Heroes" are you watching?

Love Damon on "Vampire Diaries." The sexy dancing stuff was hilariously hot.

Anyone watch last night's Halloween episode of 'The Vampire Diaries'. Holy crap!! Was anyone else as shocked as I was? Very good episode, and actually, very good directing. The set-up of the Halloween party in the school with the strobe lights was really good. Obviously the episode was shocking enough, but for a split second, at the end when Elena was talking about how she wishes she could forget meeting Stefan and learning about him being a vampire and he asked her "Is that what you truly wish?", I thought, just for a second, that he would do that and Elena would forget everything! THAT would have made this A LOT more interesting, but the show is already so interesting so it's okay that it didn't happen. I'm really anticipating seeing what this does to the character of Jeremy, and I'm intrigued by what Stefan, Elena and Damon's approach to the situation will be. Also, on a side note, it was nice to see a somewhat soft side of Damon when he made Jeremy forget what happened at the party. This show keeps impressing me and it's been on fire at least since the episode where Elena discovered that Stefan was a vampire. I think it's safe to say that, for me at least, this show is ranking among must-watch list right now (the only other shows that occupy this list are Glee and Grey's Anatomy). Job well done, Vampire Diaries!

Um...hey!

Loved this week's Supernatural. The TV parodies were hilarious. I loved the sitcom intro with their exaggerated laughing, and David Caruso impressions are generally a good joke.
