Richard Schiff also submitted "Five Votes Down".
It's hard to pick critique a winner but he should have gone with "Crackpots and these Women"

Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series

can anyone guess the sopranos pairings for 2003? i mean, 'eloise' and 'whitecaps' were OBVIOUSLY paired, and 'no show' probably went with 'watching too much television', since it's all about the feds' pressure on adrianna. but i can't figure out the other four. maybe 'the weight' with 'whoever did this' since it deals with how troublesome ralphie was, while 'everybody hurts' and 'the strong silent type' are good together, for both christopher's drug abuse storyline and carmela's arc. yeah, thinking about it, these would've been the best pairings possible. but then again, they didn't pair 'long term parking' and 'irregual around the margins' in 2004, so you never know. but i think we can assume that the pairings were:

The Sopranos (Season 4)

TAPE A: "Eloise" + "Whitecaps"
TAPE B: "No Show" + "Watching Too Much Television"
TAPE C: "The Weight" + "Whoever Did This?"
TAPE D: "Everybody Hurts" + "The Strong, Silent Type"

if they did submit like this, i dont know how the hell they lost to the west wing

Manheim's other submission was Checkmate according to an interview with her in EW.

WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

i dont know where to post this, so here it goes. i'm really surprised that michael imperioli wasn't considered a contender in 2006 and no one predicted him. he was so good in 'the ride' with his relapse into heroin and he displayed range that no one else in that category did, from a loving boyfriend, to a loyal mob soldier, to a drug addict. and in 'luxury lounge' he's just hilarious trying to get the gift bags and sooo 'christopher' that i really can't see how anyone didnt think he had a shot. he was certainly far superior to itzin, shatner and platt. even alda, come on, that was a boring role. michael imperioli is probably one of the best submitters ever. he always picked the best match he could every season

I actually agree that Imperioli is a good submitter but we all knew Alan Alda has that one already. It's West Wing's final season, and they gotta reward it somewhere. Like Mullally and Will and Grace. Alda actually deserved it. Plus the shocking Gandolfini and Falco snubs didn't help Imperioli's chances. People were already rooting for Alda, if not Itzin last year.

Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies)

yeah, snubbing the leads when both of them were season mvp's must've turned off the voters. but yeah, if you check out his other submissions, they were always top notch and perfect. still, there's the likeability factor, and although i think he's one of the coolest characters ever on tv, exterior viewers obviously find him repulsing. but no doubt he is the best submitter. everyone else either screwed up or didnt submit their best. i mean, here's my opinion:

Edie Falco - should've submitted 'the knight in white satin armor' in 2000, 'unidentified black males' or 'sentimental education' in 2004, and, in my serious opinion, 'mayham' in 2006 instead of 'join the club'. all episodes dealing directly with her marriage, because that's what won her the three emmys

James Gandolfini - he's a pretty lousy submitter. he didnt deserve to win based on submissions in 99, because he didnt submit his best episodes (one of the best of the entire series for him) which was 'isabella'. in 2000 he had better, namely 'funhouse', but he won for 'the happy wanderer'. in 2003 he made a bold move submitting 'whitecaps' where he is completley shadowed by falco's explosiveness. i guess it was his best episode, but 'mergers and aqcuisitions' was great, but once again, falco shadows him. in 2004 probably 'two tonys' where he shows a much softer side with melfi or 'the test dream' (it's a real achievement to play nonsense seriously).

Lorraine Bracco - she wwas never lead, but still, in 99 she had a lot to pick from, and i guess the finale 'i dream of jeannie cusamano' was really good when she lets loose on tony. her other two submissions were really the only stuff she had.

Nancy Marchand - she's barely in the pilot, and although '46 long' was an excellent submission, the later episodes where she starts having signs of alzheimer are much better. still, losing to holland taylor was pretty bad.
