I know there are a million threads but I wanted to add a new one:
BEST DRAMA SERIES:
Damages Friday Night Lights Lost Mad Men The Wire
*The Wire is hailed by critics and fans alike as one of TV's best series...ever... but this season was not as strong as it was in the past - and it has never been nominated - so I think a nomination, not a win, will be its swan song. Mad Men is hailed as one of cable's best dramas and put A & E on the originals map. A small audience will hurt its chances at a win. Damages is much of the same story. High profile Glenn Close was the best part of this show. Not enough for a win in my opinion. Which brings us down to FNL & Lost. Many thought the murder cover up plot of FNL threw Season 2 for a loop and into cliched storytelling - on paper I agree but the acting by Adrianne Palicki and Jesse Plemons was anything but. Not to mention grounded in reality story lines involving several major characters and just the best damn acting on tv for an ensemble and not to mention tv's most real couple ever, in Tammi and Eric Taylor (Connie Britton & Kyle Chandler), and FNL will see its first nod and possibly its first win. I say possibly because Lost was a force to reckon with this season. Its strongest season ever - those 8 million viewers that have left since Season 1 ended do not know what they are missing. Engrossing storylines, great character actors and a suspenseful build to its end date, Lost should be at the top of the heap come September. Lost by a hair over FNL.
BEST COMEDY SERIES:
30 Rock Desperate Housewives How I Met Your Mother The New Adventures of Old Christine The Office
"How I met Your Mother is coming of probably its strongest run of episodes. This series is one of the few shows to have been helped by the strike - ratings were up along with the quality. The casting of Sarah Chalke as the possible mother turned out to be the best thing to happen to this show. A nomination should be a lock. The Office is coming off of an uneven season - sitcoms should only rarely be an hour and the first four episodes proved why they should stay to the half-hour form - although the best episode of the season was its 1 hour finale. A nom but no win for The Office. I think it is a 3 way race between DH, 30, and New Adventures - here is why: DH is the best hour long comedy on tv - bar none. After breaking big in season 1 and having a friends like backlash for season 2 DH returned close to form in season 3 and went above and beyond for season 4 - its strongest season to date. Dana Delaney turning down the role of Bree Van de Kamp/Hodge was the best thing that happened to DH because not only did they end up with Marcia Cross - Delaney was available to help return DH to greatness this season. A juicy mystery, impeccable writing and top notch acting should propel the show back to Emmy status - the only downfall - the actually reveal of the mystery was a letdown but Delaney, Gary Cole, and Cross acted the hell out of that scene - and a 5 year jump in storyline has made this a buzz show yet again. Now 30 Rock. The goofiest yet smartest sitcom on TV today. Fey has become an actress and not just a writer. Alec Baldwin is the best comedic actor on all of tv right now. He is pure genius. The only thing holding it back from a win is last years win - repeats don't happen often for shows not named Frasier. Also some found this show bordering on being too weird for its own good - but are there any scenes funnier on TV today than ones featuring Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin - oh wait, yeah, the scene where Baldwin impersonates everyone in Tracy Jordan's (Tracy Morgan) family. A tour de force. Finally we come to The New Adventures of Old Christine - the quiet and little show that could. This is easily the best traditional sitcom on TV today - easily. Julia Louis Dreyfuss is brilliant as Christine Campbell and Kari Lizer as show-runner has shown that you can still shoot a 3 camera sitcom in front of an audience and be funny. This show is not trying to be hip and culty - it is just trying to make you laugh and boy does it succeed - in fact I sometimes think its laugh to minute ration is greater that any other show on tv today. A sharp supporting cast and great writing staff propel it above the likes of Two and a Half Men. Should be a bigger hit and I find myself smiling and laughing with this show more and more each weak. I was thinking a 3 way heat between 30, DH, and New Adventures was in the cards but after thinking about it I can't think of one negative thing to say about New Adventures. I would like to see any one of these 5 shows win - all deserve it in one way or another. But New Adventures could benefit the most and right now is the most deserving.
BEST ACTOR - DRAMA
Michael C. Hall - Dexter Kyle Chandler - Friday Night Lights Matthew Fox - Lost Denis Leary - Rescue Me Hug Laurie - House
A horse race between Fox & Chandler. Chandler is the best actor on tv - he gives a breezy performance and I would like to see him stand at the podium.
BEST ACTRESS - DRAMA
Glenn Close - Damages Sally Field - Brothers & Sisters Patricia Arquette - Medium Kyra Sedgwic - The Closer Ellen Pompeo - Grey's Anatomy
I would like to see any one of these 5 win because they were all very good this year. Field won't repeat - not enough this season as far as story. Sedgwic is on a top show but procedurals are getting tired. Same could be said for Arquette but Medium has a lot of depth and she is the reason for it. Pompeo brought a little of likability to her character this year and finally evolved but Glenn Close is Damages. She is the show and she is the winner.
BEST ACTOR - COMEDY
Alec Baldwin - 30 Rock Steve Carrell - The Office Kelsey Grammer - Back to You David Duchovny - Californication Johnny Galecki - The Big Bang Theory
Baldwin - enough said
Best Actress - COMEDY
Tina Fey - 30 Rock Julia Louis Dreyfuss - The New Adventures of Old Christine Marcia Cross - Desperate Housewives Teri Hatcher - Desperate Housewives Christine Applegate - Samantha Who? Mary Louise Parker - Weeds
Anyone but America Ferrera - ugh! But really this is a tight race and a good one. Applegate is a star - she is her show. But at times it is uneven. Dreyfuss used to be her show but she has elevated everyone around her - including her writers - the sign of a star. Hatcher did her ebst work this season. Parker is strong but Weeds was not. Cross was wickedly good the whole season. If given based on 1 episode - I give to Fey or Dreyfuss - if based on a season's body of work - Cross wins hands down.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - DRAMA
Matthew Rhys - Brothers & Sisters John Hamm - Mad Men Henry Ian Cusick - Lost Ted Danson - Damages Michael Emerson - Lost Jesse Plemons - Friday Night Lights Jake Weber - Medium
I would love to see 7 nominees here - all deserving. Danson should his dramatic side, Hamm is the breakout, Emerson the great character actor, Cusick an emotional center for his show, Weber the second best husband on tv, Rhys gives the best portrayal of a realistic gay man on TV ever, and Plemons elevated cliched material. I can't pick one but if I had to it will be Hamm for the breakout role. Rhys for the material.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - DRAMA
Connie Britton - Friday Night Lights Patricia Wettig - Brothers & Sister Emily Vancamp - Brothers & Sisters Chandra Wilson - Grey's Anatomy Rose Byrne - Damages Adrianne Palicki - Friday Night Lights Yunjin Kim - Lost
Another heavy field and one where I would like for any of these to win. If by season you go with Britton - she is mesmerizing. If you go by episode submission there is no doubt you go with Kim - the scene where she screeches and wails in terror, confusion, loss, sadness, grief, anger and vulnerability was the most gut wrenching and emotional scene on all of tv this year. It was real and raw and for that she will win.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - COMEDY
John Krasinski - The Office Jack McBrayer - 30 Rock Neil Patrick Harris - How I Met Your Mother Tracy Morgan - 30 Rock Hamish Linklater - The New Adventures of Old Christine
Again I would love to see any one of these guys win - Linklater is the ying to Dreyfuss's Yang but Harris has elevated a cliched character to new heights and with the reveal that he has love for his BFF old girlfriend he quickly was humanized. Harris deserves this big time.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - COMEDY
Dana Delaney - Desperate Housewives Jane Krakowski - 30 Rock Cobie Smulders - How I Met Your Mother Wanda Sykes - The New Adventures of Old Christine Jean Smart - Samantha Who? Jenna Fischer - The Office Melora Hardin - The Office
Hardin gave a tour de force performance in the Dinner Party episode to deserve a win but many think she is a guest star and not supporting. Smart is, well, Smart so a nod seems likely. Fishcer is sweet but she was more of the same this year. Smulders has taken a character that was the vocal point for a season, the nrelegated to obligatory appearances to the best timed supporting player on HIMYM. Krakowski is the opposite of the annoying waif she was taken for at the beginning of 30 Rock and her laugh ration is becoming on par with Baldwin's. Sykes has become the best thing about New Adventures - she is wondrous and Delaney elevated what could have been a ridiculous plot and made it her own - she became Housewives go to girl - again like the lead actress you have some options - based on episode submission: you go with Sykes or Hardin or Krakowski but based on a season's worth of work you go with Delaney hands down, with Smulders a second place winner.

You're probably one of those millions who don't watch "The Riches". If you have watched it, you wouldn't have a problem with which leading actress gave the best season's body of work in drama series. It was without a doubt the best acting given by a leading drama lady I've seen in 2007-2008. She was great week after week. The scene with parole officer alone should bring her an Emmy.

I feel it is a mix of both and why so negative? I am sure there is another thread somewhere but I didn't look for nor did I feel like it. Which picks have no chances?

Oh, it's definitely a wish list. Sadly, I know most of my favorites don't stand a chance at actually getting nominated for an Emmy.
