It's really hard to judge how Michael Emerson scored on the popular vote, but the tape should propel him to a nomination.
Underwood's only obstacle was getting to this point. His episode will probably get him the nod.
Slattery should get in, as I expect Mad Men to have done well with both the popular vote and the panels.
However, I'm torn about the last spot. I don't necessarily think Danson scored as high as Boomer/Rob do. I haven't seen his tape either, so I'm a bit in the dark, but I just don't know if he'll get in (it kind of depends on how much these people really love Damages?). I wouldn't be surprised if there are six nominees and Clemenson gets in along with Danson, Slattery, Shatner, Emerson, and Underwood.
I agree that William Shatner, Michael Emerson, Ted Danson, and probably John Slattery will get nominated. I'm not 100% sold on Blair Underwood even though everyone else is. His tape is really good, but b/c the entire episode is just him in a room with a therapist, it might be preceived as being a little bit baity. If he scored high on the popular vote though, then he is probably in. I think both Rob and Boomer are underestimating the chances of Christian Clemenson who has won for his guest work on Boston Legal for the same role. Also, T.R. has to be seen as a threat too, since he was nominated last year. I love Zeljko Ivanek's work on Damages and his tape is stellar, but I have to imagine he was ranked pretty low in the popular vote.
Emmy FYC:
THE WIRE Dominic West as "Jimmy" in The Wire Andre Royo as "Bubbles" in The Wire Michael K. Williams as "Omar" in The Wire LOST Yunjin Kim as "Sun" on LOST Henry Ian Cusick as "Desmond" in LOST FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Connie Britton as "Tami" in Friday Night Lights MAD MEN Jon Hamm as "Don" in Mad Men Christina Hendricks as "Joan" in Mad Men Vincent Kartheiser as "Pete" in Mad Men
I'm glad to see Rob and Boomer ranking Zeljko Ivanek's tape so highly. I was shocked he made it into the top ten, considering how Ted Danson is "Damages's" lightning rod for this category, even though I think Ivanek gave the more impactful performance. It's a sign that Emmy voters actually watched "Damages" and responded to it, because Ivanek surely didn't make it in on name recognition. Other than Underwood, Ivanek's tape is my favorite of the category, although I'm only going by memory since I haven't rewatched the episodes.
I don't think Ivanek will be nominated though. I think Rob L and Boomer both rank him too high in the popular vote. I think he probably landed in the bottom three.
I'm also concerned for Underwood. Did he rank highly in the popular vote? I'm not convinced he was #5 or #6. It shouldn't matter though, since his tape is so outstanding he should manage a nomination even from 11th place. If he manages the nod, though it's hard to imagine him losing the prize in the final vote.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)

Though I'm a huge Damages fan and I want it to win (because let's face it...Lost won't be nominated), and I loved every minute of it...Ted Danson doesn't....HE DOES NOT! have a winning tape in this season, and Ivanek was sooo much better....I hope he actually manages to get in...
Without O Quinn or Cusick here, I really don't care about this category...it'll be full of surprises for me and a lot of "wow...he actually got in" happy moments if people like Underwood, Ivanek and Slattery get in after so many years in the bussiness without recognition for their talents...
I think T.R. Knight will get in as the 6th nominee over Ivanek. He's pretty good in freedom, and he should have sufficent screentime since it was a two hour episode. And, he probably ranked pretty high on the popular vote.
I could also see Christian Clemenson scoring his third nod for his role on Boston Legal. I think they are both underestimating his chances.
G'Day, Shatner, Danson, Emerson, Underwood and Slattery seem like safe choices to me.
The big question is: if there is a spoiler or even a 6th nominiee who is it?
Dern and Weber likley scored low in the popular vote and I don't see them getting in.
However the other 4 guys could all spoil.
Knight got in last year and may have scored high on the popular vote (although Grey's support seems to be thinning)
Andrews has a solid tape, not win worthy but perhaps worth a nod, and he made the top 5 on the popular vote a couple of years back.
Ivanek has an amazing tape and is really dangerous if he did remotly well on the popular ballot. It's even more unpredictable considering he is on an untested show.
Clemenson is a winner in the guest category looking for a promotion. If he has a good tape he is also a real danger considering the appeal of BL to the academy and the nature of Clemenson's character. Anyone know how good his tape is?
It will be interesting if this category goes according to plan or if a few curve balls are thrown in.

I agree entirely with whomever believes in Ivanek receiving an nomination. Not over Danson, but I think he was great this season in Damages and I am glad to see that he made it this far.

It would be a crime against humanity if Ivanek gets snubbed. I mean to think of William Shatner being nominated and not Ivanek is just absurd but sadly this is the Emmys.
In the battle of newcomers from smaller critically acclaimed shows, Ivanek deserves it far more than Slattery.
FYC Emmy- Best Drama- Damages, Lost Best Comedy- 30 Rock Ladies- Glenn Close, Kyra Sedgwick, Christina Applegate, Rachel Griffiths, Tina Fey, Kristen Chenoweth, Carrie Fisher, Ellen Burstyn, Anjelica Huston, Catherine Keener, Phylicia Rashad, Audra McDonald, Eileen Atkins Guys- Alec Baldwin, Lee Pace, Hugh Laurie, Željko Ivanek, Stephen Dillane, Will Arnett, Glynn Turman
After re-watching the first season of Mad Men, I think that John Slattery shouldn't be nominated. Yes he did good work on the series, but I think that Moss, Hamm and Jones were all better than him. His submission is good, but I don't think that it is the best of the bunch. Personally, I think that if he is nominated it is because the Emmys are falling in love with the show, I don't really think that the nomination will be for his work. Danson, Knight, Underwood, Emerson, and Zeljko all did better work this year I think.
Those are my six predictions exactly. I'm going for six nominees instead of five this year like last year b/c the category is so front-loaded, and I think they'll be more of those ties than most expect. I'd give William Shatner's slot to Naveen Andrews without hesitation, but that's not going to happen. Win wise, I see the match-up being between Michael Emerson, John Slattery, and Blair Underwood, and once voters see Blair Underwood's tape last, hopefully that will seal the deal for his Emmy win.
Predictions:
Ted Danson, "Damages" Michael Emerson, "Lost" Zejlko Ivanek, "Damages" William Shatner, "Boston Legal" John Slattery, "Mad Men" Blair Underwood, "In Treatment"
