I know I might get shamed for even asking on here, but I'm a bit confused as to why hardly anyone is predicting the show to get lead Emmy nominations. Sure it's vampire fantasy, but it's also very popular and it's Alan Ball, HBO. Not to say that you have to be 100% quality to get nominated, but the Emmys are known for also nominating programs based on other things. And the show is very entertaining- everyone I talk to knows the big die-hard fans of it.
And didn't Anna Paquin win the Golden Globe for the program? I mean- doesn't that count for anything? And the whole Twilight craze should also help us assume that plenty of voters will want to honor the program for its contribution to pop culture?
I'm just curious as to why it's not getting as much plug as I thought it would.

IDK about this yr., but I think next yr. it'll hit its stride. From knowing ppl off the award thinking mindset, they are into to this show big time and given the promotion that was done for this season I think this show is definitly HBO next Sopranos speaking in terms of critical acclaim from the media and popularity by the audience.

I'm in no position to say; I may have my fun with an Emmy Dream Ballot. All in all, I'd guess that the content of True Blood may have some thinking it won't make of a mark in top categories. I, frankly, believe Anna Paquin may be the best-actress frontrunner. What would keep her out is if the Emmys virtually duplicate last year's lead-actress-in-a-drama list with this year's. Yes, they'll be six nominees; but, say, one from a previous year wins that sixth slot.
I think True Blood will make a respectable showing. The only question: How respectable?
I love the show, it's a lot of fun and everything but I highly doubt it will make a huge showing in the Emmys this year. It just seems a little too...sexually violent for older members. I can only imagine the reaction from those older members. It probably has its fans among younger voters but it's probably not enough.
I love the show, but I think it's too out there for older voters. Too much sex, violence, to name a few. It also didn't really come together as a whole until mid season.
I don't know if that will hurt it. After all Emmy voters gave The Sopranos, a show that was just as violent, multiple nominations and wins. Six Feet Under had its eccentric moments but was nominated for best series during its first three seasons and had multiple acting nominees. Dexter which has an almost more calculated violence than True Blood got nominated last year. Hopefully voters can look past the sex and violence and reward the show for what it is - a well made genre show.
That being said, Paquin has a good shot at a nomination, possibly the win. The supporting cast is also worthy, especially Ellis, Kwanten, and Wesley.
I don't watch the show, but when Alan Ball hosted the season 1 review, the plotlines sounded certainly intriguing. Nevertheless, I don't know if the show will be nominated this year. I think, though, with Glenn Close's buzz slowly but surely running low, I think Anna Paquin (who won the statue that Close never did: The Oscar) could very well give her a run for her money. Again, I don't watch the show, so I don't know Paquin's quality of work here; I'm just making blind speculations (like half of the people here ).

If anyone is going to give Close a run for her money it's January Jones. Not Anna Paquin.
Agree to disagree.
(Though I have been hearing quite a few good things about Jones this season.)

If Anna Paquin or January Jones get nominated there is no chance that they are taking Glenn Close's spot! Glenn Close will continue to get nominated for every season of Damages and deservedly so!
For Your Grammy Consideration: Kristin Chenoweth - in all eligible categories

I never said they'd take her nomination slot. I just think they could beat her for the award.

I actually think it might be Kyra Sedgwick. It took years for Kiefer and Mariska to get theirs, I think Kyra is now next in line.
I hope The Office wins as Best Comedy Series for this year's Emmy Awards.

I'd actually be really happy about that. She's a fine actress, and has never given an unpleasant interview.

Yes. And for me it shouldn't even be a contest. January Jones in a perfect world would win this in a cake walk.
As for Paquin. If she submit "Cold Ground" I don't mind seeing her nominated because she was very good in that particular spot (unless she takes Jones spot then I will get angry).

Yes. She's deserving of a win and if she submits "Cherry Bomb" and wins over January Jones I won't mind it because she was great in it and is overdue. As much as I want January Jones to get nominated and win, I won't be mad if either Sedwick, Tripplehorn (in "Outer Darkness") or Bassett (in "Heal Thyslef") wins.

I find all of this Jones buzz hilarious. Not because I don't think she deserves it; quite the contrary, I don't even watch the show. But since the pilot episode, I was really worried that the women would be, like in so many drama shows, written as cardboard cutouts, and that the only award contention material would be given to the guys. Glad to see I'm wrong about that.
I'm almost done with Breaking Bad. Maybe I'll start up on AMC's second hit drama after that.

Yeah I'd be more delighted for that to happen too. I guess no one will find Glenn Close, Sally Field, and Mariska Hargitay overdue for a second win, and January Jones might wait a little longer for hers, so I think Kyra Sedgwick is poised to finally win her first.
I hope The Office wins as Best Comedy Series for this year's Emmy Awards.
