Friends alumna Jennifer Aniston — whose love life has fed the tabs with headlines aplenty — now is making legit news, having booked a guest-starring gig on NBC's 30 Rock, sources tell TVGuide.com. (The Pea****, for the record, tells me they are "unable to confirm" this A-list casting coup.)
Thus far, no details on who Aniston will be playing — a new paramour for Jack? A high-school chum of Liz's? Kenneth's surprisingly attractive cousin Enid Mae? — have yet to trickle out. Interestingly, her former Must-See TV scene partner, David Schwimmer, previously has guested on 30 Rock, playing NBC's overzealous ecology mascot.
Aniston's most recent prime-time TV appearance came in the form of a bold bid to give girlFriend Courteney Cox's struggling Dirt a shot in the arm by engaging in a much-hyped girl-girl lip lock.
I am so excited now! 30 Rock is gonna win best comedy again, and Aniston should start writing her speech!

30 Rock and Aniston are perfect for each other. I hope they find her a nice big role. Maybe Jennas sister? Tinas old high school buddy?
Aniston is a great comedic actress and certainly comes across better on TV cause she has that familiar/friendly vibe.
2 Friends down for 30 Rock. 4 to go.
Well actually Matthew Perry did Studio 60, which is another show about a sketch show, but... I really hope they give her good material, better than Edie Falco (who was great on 30 Rock too)! And I hope she does a multi-episode arc, so this way not only will we see her more on the screen, but also it will increase her chances for Emmy!

Why is everyone so ga-ga over Aniston? I don't think she's all that great, and Rachel was my least favorite character on Friends. Is there something I'm missing?

Word to this entire post.
To me she'll always just be an average actress who was on a hit ensemble show with her main claim to fame being:
a) a trendy hair-do in the 90's b) being married to Brad Pitt c) garnering sympathy when said marriage to Brad busted up.

That's why I think she's perfect for 30 Rock and TV. She'll never be a big movie star, but she has a personality and acting style that lends to playing well in ensembles. She'd work well with the likes of Tina Fey and co.
People were less than thrilled about David Schwimmer but anyone who watched it has to admit he did a great job. (And 30 Rock did well incorporating him.)

I guess its all preference and personal opinion. She was one of my favorite actors (and characters) on Friends, so I'm excited by her guesting on one of my favorite shows.

I admit that I was nervous when they announced Schwimmer was guesting last season, but I thought he ended up doing a tremendous job. He was my favorite guest actor in a comedy for the 07-08 TV season.

This is good news. I'd much rather see Aniston working on a TV comedy than in those romantic comedy flicks. I echo everyone else in saying I really hope they give her an interesting, I think she should be Kenneth's older sister, or something. Hah.

Thank you! that's exactly what I was going to ask!
Not excited about this at all.

Did you see Jennifer Aniston in the Friends episode entitled "The One with the Fake Party?"
It's episodes like those that made me fall in love with Aniston as an actress. Aniston had an impeccable, likable onscreen presence on Friends and it's no surprise she won an Emmy for the role. The haircut and being married to Brad Pitt were bonuses.

Totally agree. "The One with the Fake Party" was a triumph for her. She was amazing there. I also loved her performance in "The One Where Ross Finds Out." Perfect mix of drama and comedy in that one.
She was amazing in "Fake Party", "The One Where Ross Finds Out" and throughout the entire 2nd season. But my personal favorite performance by her on friends is in "The One with Ross's New Girlfriend". She played such a mix of emotions so well there and also came off as a real person not just someone shooting off one liners. It was hilarious and heartbreaking all the same time and I'll always say that she deserved to win an emmy in 1996 (and maybe even in 1998).
I'm excited for her 30 Rock appearance. I really hope she appears as someone related to Kenneth because her country accent is great and really funny and she needs a role that's kind of against type.
I love that the Friends gang is getting back into situational comedies - even as guest stars. I'm excited about both jennifer's appearance as well as Courteney Cox on a three episode arc on SCRUBS!
