I thought the fantasy worked better than most shows since that's something that JD does a lot.

I loved the fantasy of sitcom finales - just hilarious. And the JD/Carla final scene was perfect. As was the Carla/Elliot hugging.

I liked that this was about saying goodbye to just jd, not everyone.

That was just a great episode of scrubs and it was a great way to go out. I'm so so glad that was the last episode and that they got a proper farewell.

Episode Grade: A

A strong finale that had a strong mix of humor and drama. Without the main cast of players there really is no reason (except for syndication profits) for the show to come back.

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful finale! Loved the call backs to the pilot. The old music cues. Lower lighting like early seasons. Oh my, I actually remembered those couple of rants of Cox's.

This was absolutely a series finale. In every way. Beautiful. Loved the scene between JD and Carla. Loved Kelso stealing tables. Loved the scene about the Janitor's real name. Cox finally saying what he really thinks of JD. Ted repeating that line about Kelso not going to be around there anymore, over and over and over. LOL.

The home movie fantasy at the end was perfect. Sentimental? Yes, definitely. But, this show has fantasies all the time. Loved the ending bit with Sam and Izzy telling Turk and JD they were getting married. Fantastic!

Oh ABC. This was a perfect ending. There is utterly no way to do a season 9 of Scrubs now. Please, ABC, do not try. Spin off with different characters would be fine. But don't try to carry on Scrubs after this.

I am so glad we got a proper finale to Scrubs. Wonderful! Loved it!

i'm gonna be the dissenting voice i guess. I hated the finale. I thought it was overly sentimental, too silly and awkward. I don't feel like enough actually happened. The stuff with the janitor was as always my least favorite part. i've never cared for him. I did like the stuff with Elliot, i like how they had her sneak moving in and how he pictures his future with her. The fantasay part was excellent, but everything else felt forced.

Overall Grade: C

I don't think so. They all had such limited screentime. The only guest star who I thought was really good last night was Josh Cooke and he isn't well known enough to get in.

I actually thought Josh Cooke was good enough last night to prove that he deserves another chance at his own show on the fall schedule.

Nah. None of the guest stars had enough screen time. The effect was more a cumulative one, seeing all those old guest stars there. This was a total showcase for the regulars.

Does this season have a DVD release date yet?

I was thinking about this today. It's pretty intriguing that all of the primary characters had a season-long wrap-up, when other shows would've condensed them into one or two episodes.

But this 8th season seemed to slowly wrap up all the characters (Janitor got married, Kelso returned to medicine, Dr Cox became Chief of Medicine, Turk became Chief of Surgery, Carla had a 2nd baby, Ted found a girlfriend, Elliot moved in with JD, JD got a new job)

"My Chief Concern" -- I liked the theme here of "change begets change", and it's sad to see how everyone reacted to J.D.'s news of leaving the hospital. I liked seeing the reaction that Perry had most of all, b/c underneath all of the bluster, he's grown as attached to J.D. as the rest of the group has. Giving J.D. and Turk that mini-conflict with the patient was an easy way to lead up to their quickie resolution and the ending where the distance between them inevitably starts, but besides that, this was a funny and bittersweet episode. I'm still interested in seeing Eliza Coupe beyond these last episodes, either continuing on with this show, in a spinoff show, or on a starring vehicle on her own. Some of my favorite lines of the episode: "That kid's so fine, he's actually made a couple of guest appearances up in here."; "You will look at my huff walk!"; "Oh, you need me to say yes. I got so caught up in it."

Grade for "My Chief Concern": B+

"My Finale" - This was a great way to wrap things up. It was big on sentiment, but it worked out so well by the ending. I could barely keep it together by the time that they did the string of past patients and guests down the hall as J.D. left Sacred Heart -- like Aloma Wright, Kathryn Joosten, Stephanie d'Abruzzo, Michael Learned, Tom Cavanagh, Nicole Sullivan, Michael McDonald, Amy Smart, and on and on. The dream montage was brilliant in almost a "Six Feet Under" sort of way. I loved seeing J.D. try to elicit a heartfelt conclusion with Perry throughout the episode and then the way that he finally got what he was after. We finally got the Janitor's real name, if that's what he told J.D. was accurate. Equally great was all of J.D. and Turk's goodbyes, and the final big case with Josh Cooke. Loved seeing the outtakes too. I'm glad that Bill Lawrence got to finish things the way that he wanted to on ABC, b/c on NBC, they wouldn't have bothered to go through the formality of concluding this series properly. They've opened the door now to continue on with a new cast or go in any direction they choose, spinoff or otherwise. I'd give whatever they go with a try, but it'll be bittersweet not seeing this ensemble intact and in action again. It was a stirring finale with just the right mix of comedy and drama to it. Excellent job, and thanks for the eight seasons.

Grade for "My Finale": A

G'Day,
Just saw the final.

Firstly my thoughts on the season. This was a really strong year and a return to form for the series after a 2 year slump. My Full Moon was the only dud episode of the year imo. Courtney Cox kicked things off nicely, Dr. Cox becoming Chief, the Janitor's wedding and trip to Bahamas and the wrap up all were great. An emmy nod would really be in order for this show.

Now the final episode. It was great. The final scene with Carla was very sweet. The final 2 seces with the Janitor were great "It was a test of character and you failed". And all of Dr. Cox's scenes were gold with the book and being caught out by JD. JD's final walk out of the hospital was nice as well. My only gripe would be that fantasy slideshow at the end. I didn't mind the idea of it and it had some nice moments - it was just too long and felt like they were milking as much sentimentality as they could. I think they could have solicited the same results if that scene was 1/4 in length.

If nominated for series, which is a real possibility they should submit:

TAPE A: My ABC's / My New Role
TAPE B: My Soul on Fire
TAPE C: My Finale

They would be pretty amazing tapes, although not sure if anything can overtake the NBC duo.

Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series

Scrubs shocker: School's in, hospital's out!
Jun 19, 2009, 06:00 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Scrubs boss Bill Lawrence said his cancellation-defying comedy would undergo an extreme makeover in its ninth season, and, man, he wasn't kidding. When the show returns next winter, the action will shift from the hospital to the classroom and make med-school professors of John C. McGinley's Dr. Cox and Donald Faison's Turk.

"It'll be a lot like Paper Chase as a comedy," Lawrence tells me. "It's going to be a different show. It'll still be life-and-death stakes, but if the show is just Scrubs again in the hospital with a different person's voiceover, it would be a disaster and people would be mad."

Of course, Sacred Heart won't go away altogether. Although J.D.'s old stumping ground no longer will serve as the show's base of operations, the students will occasionally rotate through its halls -- and bump into many of its familiar faces. In addition to McGinley and Faison, both of whom are expected to be full-time regulars alongside a quartet of newbies (most of them playing students), Scrubs vets Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes and Ken Jenkins have agreed to make guest appearances. (Neil Flynn has a costarring role as Patricia Heaton's husband in the new ABC sitcom The Middle, so his name-challenged Janitor will be MIA.)

"Med students in their first three years have to spend anywhere from 10 to 50 percent of their time at a hospital," Lawrence explains. "And that's when you'll see some of the [original cast members]. Continuity-wise, Sacred Heart will still exist with those people still working there."

But Lawrence insists "half the cast, if not 60 percent of it," will be comprised of freshmen, one of which will be more recognizable than the rest. "[ABC] is really after us to hire a big name," he reveals. "So one of them will be fairly famous."

Thoughts on Scrubs 2.0? Share 'em below!

I'll give the pilot a fair shot. It's not a bad idea and a very workable premise, but it's just really different from what we're accustomed to seeing from the show. So much will hinge on the new cast though, so they better cast wisely. Hopefully they'll start off by bringing back Eliza Coupe.

Did (does) Eliza Coupe play the one J.D. would refer to as Jo from The Facts of Life? If so, I did like her character a lot, and if she's brought into the forefront, maybe this won't suck as hard.

Yes, that was the character Eliza Coupe played. I really liked her. I still think continuing this show is a bad idea. I really have interest in this concept, either. Oh well.

This isn't a bad idea if the show is not called Scrubs. Now we know what they meant by saying it would be akin to Frasier after Cheers.

I just hope John C. McGinley is used more like a lead actor. But it'll take more than a year to establish, that much is certain.

Again, this is workable if things like the voiceovers and daydreams are taken out. It absolutely has to function like a new show.

LOVE IT!

I mena they had to do something different, b/c the hospital was pretty much J.D. story. And hopefully having all of the interns back (Eliza Coupe is the breakout and Bill would be crazy to not make her the center of the show) w/John and Donald being the Leads all I can say is good things.

G'Day,
It could be terrible, it could be good.
This is what I wanted; a new show. The premise has potential it's all about the execution. I agree with Professor Chaos the name can't be [Scrubs] and they have to make it function like a new show. Although is there a problem with syndacation if it has a new name? (ABC only renewed it for syndacation and DVD sales).

The only thing that I have is that Turk just became chielf and was really happy with that role and now they are going to have him make a careeer change? Sort of same with Dr. Cox but I buy it more with him.

Dr. Cox as more of a lead on the show would be great and it's sad not to see Neil Flynn in the show.

New Details:
* The show will have a different name
* Lauren Graham is being eyed to join the series
* Eliza Coupe would be the only intern to return

So it's basically a spin-off

'Scrubs' to change its name & location next season, former TV star to be recruited

"Scrubs," the beloved series we said goodbye to last month when J.D. (Zach Braff) made his exit from Sacred Heart, will return to the schedule this winter, but it won't be the same show... not at all.

"Scrubs" e.p. Bill Lawrence told EW.com last week that when the sitcom comes back, it'll no longer take place in the hospital, but in a medical school with professors Cox (John C. McGinley) and Turk (Donald Faison) instead.

Sacred Heart won't disappear completely though. Dr. Cox and Dr. Turk's students will end up seeing several familiar faces while doing rotations there every now and then... Braff, Sarah Chalke (Elliot), Judy Reyes (Carla) and Ken Jenkins (Dr. Kelso) have signed on to appear as guest stars throughout the season.

The med students will be comprised of actors new to the "Scrubs" family, though casting has not yet begun. Lawrence did, however, mention that ABC is encouraging them to hire one big name, someone recognizable.

Sources close to the series tell me "Gilmore Girls"' Lauren Graham is currently at the top of their wish list.

As for last season's newbies, Eliza Coupe, Betsy Beutler, Sonal Shah and Todd Bosley, the interns who were once rumored to be "Scrubs" future, I'm told Coupe will likely be the only one considered to return in some regular capacity.

Neil Flynn (The Janitor) and Christa Miller (Jordan) have both landed series regular roles on new sitcoms, however Christa can do double duty on "Scrubs" since her new gig is Lawrence's other show, "Cougar Town," which will film right next door.

No, not next door to the abandoned hospital in the Valley. "Scrubs" has actually packed up shop, its sets will be built on a studio lot in Culver City.

Insiders tell me the producers are busy brainstorming a new name for the show as well... something that will probably include "Scrubs," but somehow distinguish that it's different from the show we've watched for the last eight years.

Any ideas?
