Now it's official. Awe -- wait for it -- some. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's a done deal: Neal Patrick Harris hosting Emmys Jul 2, 2009 | by Michael Ausiello
Neil Patrick Harris' Emmy hosting gig has moved from the talking stage to the definitely doing stage.
Multiple sources are now confirming that the legen...dary "How I Met Your Mother" cad has formally signed on to emcee the 61st annual ceremony, which airs Sept. 20 on CBS.
An official announcement is expected early next week.
As pointed out by Variety, which was first to report the NPH negotiations, Emmy producers are under pressure to boost the kudocast's ratings and critical reception in the wake of last year's apocalyptic reality quintet train wreck. (The opening "comedy" routine still gives me nightmares.)
Harris, meanwhile, is coming off of a rapturously received Tony hosting stint. He's also one of CBS' biggest stars, so the cross-promotional possibilities with "HIMYM" (which kicks off its new season the night after the Emmys) are endless.
It's a no-brainer, folks!
Congratulations, Primetime Emmy Winners!

Congratulations to Neil Patrick Harris. It's a great opportunity for him, but he should be careful if he doesn't want to become overexposed. He's been hosting so many things lately. The Creative Emmys, the World Magic Awards, the TV Land Awards, the Tonys and now the Emmys.
It's also weird when the host is a major nominee. A loss is really awkward (particularly the inevitable bitter jokes) and a win feels like patting yourself on the back.

maybe he'll tackle Jeremy Piven
I hope Jeremy Piven doesn't win this year. I can't stand that ****er. Everytime I see his smug face, I fantasize about punching it over and over again.

I'd honestly be shocked if Jeremy Piven won a fourth consecutive Emmy.
For some reason, it's become harder for actors to win four Emmys for the same role.
Aren't Kelsey Grammar, David Hyde Pierce and Doris Roberts the only actors to accomplish the feat this decade?
I mean I think everyone expected James Gandolfini and Edie Falco to win a fourth Emmy each for "The Sopranos," but I have a feeling voters just felt like they'd been properly rewarded. Same with Tony Shaloub and James Spader.
I think if NPH sends in a killer submission this year he can beat Piven.
BUT --- Piven always, ALWAYS sends in stellar tapes. Hell, he even sent in a great tape the one year he lost. The Supporting Comedy Actor category is a weak one so if NPH and the other nominees don't send in their best work Emmy voters will have no choice but to award Piven again (because we all know he's going to send in another dynamite tape this year).
Neil Patrick Harris' Emmy hosting gig has moved from the talking stage to the definitely doing stage.
Although I wish he was paired with another CBS star like Wanda Sykes, it will be fun to see him host.
Even though the emmys aren't a huge draw I hope this boost HIMYM in the fall and I hope the academy feels even more compelled to give him an emmy this year(he also did amazing work this year and really fleshed out his character, so it would be well earned).

My only concern is that he might miss out on a nomination due to this. I don't think that'll happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.
All ballots have been sent in this will have no bearing on nominations.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Piven win but at the same time I wouldn't expect it. At this stage I think Wilson has a great shot, when I saw Wilson in Stress Relief (especially that first scene) I thought that's the kind of tape that wins emmys. He may go with Heavy Competition which I don't think would be as strong but would keep him competitive.
Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series "What's Next?"

Hugh Jackman won his Best Musical Actor Tony the same year that he hosted. I think that NPH will do the same thing this year with the Emmys... If anyone's going to beat Piven, I think that Harris deserves to be that "anyone." He's the only reason to watch How I Met Your Mother, in my opinion.

The reason why Two and A Half Men gets nominated is because of the FACT that the show is the TOP rated sitcom in Neilsens ratings and is consistent in the Top ratings overall with Neilsens. It is the MOST POPULAR sitcom on television right now to include cable too. Just look where some of the nominated shows are on the ratings scheme and some are quite terrible in ratings. They do not have the audience base and the numbers like Two and A Half Men do. This show is quite funny with really good writing. It is ironic that shows and stars of shows that get nominations/wins only last maybe 2 to 4 years on the air. These shows have no lasting legacy at all and viewers quickly lose interest and want to move on. Two and A Half Men keeps on keeping on and that is a testament to the shows creator, writing team, and to the actors who do brilliantly each and every season. Most of the actors on the show have been recognized with a nomination here and there. Not just one or two but they all are a great group that bring out the best in each other and share the show evenly and balanced.
Shows such as Entourage are not very credible since it only focus attention to one or two characters and is not balanced in writing equally for all the actors in the show. Too inconsistent. In classic shows, it takes ALL actors to complete a show and provide team balance and equality in writing. The writing team of Entourage do not have the ability to be consistent with all the actors and writing characters evenly which has/is fundamentally hurting the show, overall. Shows like All In The Family, Golden Girls, and my favorite Will and Grace are classics in that ALL actors shined equally and had team showmanship to bring to the show working together in harmony and that is greatness to me. Even shows like The West Wing, Everybody Loves Raymond, and others had mindset to have all actors involved and really great representation at awards recognition time.
So, Two and A Half Men is the TOP rated sitcom and have the widespread audience base to keep it on top with great writing and consistency.
And yes, it does have consistency. It's consistency one of the worst shows I've ever seen. You can't top that.
And saying Entourage only focuses on one or two characters pretty much tells me you've never seen the show. All 5 regulars have had major storylines through the shows run. I don't know what you're talking about.

Two and a Half Men is a funny show though, it is actually a laugh out loud comedy, something the comedy category should be about lol.
Ratings and quality of NOTHING to do with each other. There are plenty of shows that have low ratings/didn't last long that will have a much better legacy than 2 1/2 men. If ratings are supposed to determine Emmy nominations than Desperate Housewives is better rated than 2 1/2 men, and IMO is a better show, yet it doesn't receive the same amount of attention. (I'm not saying it should...I'm just saying if you base it on ratings)
The only reason 2 1/2 men is a top rated sitcom (and I think receives Emmy nods) is because it hits big in the older demographics. The writing is consistent...but consistantly mediocre. It just doesn't belong in the Emmy race. Which is why I think they have failed to win anything....THANK GOD! This show has no busienss being mentioned in the same sentence as All In The Family, West Wing, Golden Girls, Everybody Loves Raymond etc.
And no the comedy categorey shouldn't be just about laugh out loud funny...comedy can take several different forms and shades

the funniest show on tv should win comedy series every year. that show btw would be the office or how i met your mother
That's your opinion, not fact. Some people in the world don't like HIMYM, and don't find it all that funny. Same with The Office.
I agree. I don't think the Office or HIMYM is funny at all. I usually sit and watch the screen bored listeless and just give up.
I am not sure I like the idea of Neil Patrick hosting especially since he hasn't won an emmy himself. It could get awkward and it somewhats taints his victory if he does win.
FYC: Comedy Supporting Actress - Vanessa Williams- Ugly Betty Portia De Rossi- Better Off Ted
It's a good first step to improving the abortion that was last year's telecast. But as someone on Ain't it Cool News astutely points out, it still won't help if a bunch of lame ducks get nominated. And what the Emmys are peddling as TV's best, what they're selling, the American TV viewing public isn't anywhere close to buying. Especially for the past 3 or 4 years, with the continued circlejerking for HBO in particular.
