Money quote from the Hollywood Reporter:

"The TV Academy had reportedly planned to release the 10 top finalists in the acting races, too, but the idea was shelved because of the more individualized nature of judging in those categories, according to a source. The official disclosure of those lists in advance now isn't expected to happen at all."

Sorry, folks... Frown

Aw man, that sucks.

But hey, it's not like we won't know them anyway.

I understand why the Academy would not release them at all, but I feel like they'll be leaked anyway, so they may as well go ahead and do it themselves.

Tom's moles will still come through. I kind of like it that way. It's more fun to find out a name or 2 at a time. It's nice to know the complete list, but there's a sense of excitement that comes with a slow dribble of names being released by anonymous sources.

Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over— an analyst and a therapist. The world’s first analrapist.

I agree with buffymars. It's always really fun watching people react to who is and isn't in the top ten as we find out name by name. It feel like part of the emmy experience on this site.

I thought the whole point of ATAS releasing the lists this year was because they'd leak anyway?

No, this IS dissapointing news. Don't you guys remember? Tom's contacts only came through halfway, and we only got half of the lists.

Do we have a secure contact this time? One that has made it his mission to get the lists for us? Because if not I don't know why you guys are expecting this year to be any different.

We'll still hear the leaks so whatever ATAS decides is aight by me.

This is probably for the best because the actors and actresses who don't "officially" make the top 10 could be devastated. Do you really want to think of the distress that Eva Longoria will have to endure if she sees that she doesn't make the top 10??

How about Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross and Nicollette Sheridan?? Right now Marc Cherry and the rest of the Housewives cast are probably in mourning. Releasing the lists would make them feel even worse.

...Not because of buzz

That's BULL**** news. Have our Emmy reports from Gold Derby been wrong yet? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ...

I have been reporting for days that the lists WILL be released. My source is MUCH better than the PR flack that the HR journo was talking to ... Believe who you want to ...

I have explained in detail what will happen next at my blog. PAY ATTENTION.

The academy is just waiting to see what the reax are to the program lists, then, assuming everything's OK, will post the acting lists.

If they don't, WE WILL START POSTING them later this week when the judges will get the discs. Right now the DVDs are being massed produced and shipped to voters.

Believe me, once we start disclosing the lists, if the acad hasn't released them yet, they'll FREAK OUT when they see us doing so and will want to get ahead of the news again. Remember what the OFFICIAL reason was for releasing the program lists -- what the academy, officially, said -- it was an obvious veiled reference to us: 'We thought it a good idea to make sure people weren't forced to get this information from secondary sources but straight from the academy,'

Well, we're about toforce them AGAIN! AIN'T THIS FUN?

Right now I'm hearing fragments of the lists and I want to be extremely careful not to get anything wrong. In the past two years we did this, we didn't goof up once and I want to make sure we don't do so again. Right now there's a lot of gossip floating around and you can't believe it all. Last Tuesday, for example, I heard from a pretty good source that Kevin Connolly is on the lead actors' list, but that was clearly just idle gossip because AT THAT POINT THE ACADEMY STILL DIDN'T KNOW THE RESULTS OF THE POPULAR VOTE. I spoke to ATAS chief Alan Perris after 5 p.m. that day and he said that they were hoping to get results the next morn.

Obviously, this is the last year we'll be able to cause this ruckus -- in the event that ATAS is dumb enough to try and withhold the actors' lists. I'm hoping that they WILL, of course, so that we can blab the story. My guess is that they'll unveil the actors' list the same way they did the sereis: post the info on their website this Thursday so that they get the news into the Friday editions of Variety, HollyReporter and LATimes

As much fun as it is to see the acting lists, I can understand ATAS's point.

How would you like to know that you came THIS CLOSE to being nominated for a prestigious award, but, sorry, you just couldn't cut it?

Or how would you like to know that you worked your butt off on TV for a full season, but did not even make the top ten list?

Doesn't every Oscar "near-miss" like to delude themselves that they were perhaps a scant two or three votes away from being that fifth nominee?

For instance, I'm sure that Josh Brolin missed a Best Actor Oscar nomination by a million miles this past year. I bet he ranked pretty low in the top ten (if he even made it that far). But did anyone drive over to his house to tell him that?

No.

So, why do that to Emmy non-nominees?

I understand the arguments for not releasing the lists completely, but then why do it for the series? It's just a very weird double standard.

I agree with everything you're saying. But to play devil's advocate: imagine being one of those actors who felt you had a snow ball's chance in hell of being considered for an award. And then a Top 10 list is leaked, like last year, and voila Becki Newton is elated to be included with the best actresses in the biz. Or Bryan Cranston is suprisingly validated in his return to tv with a new show. So just as it could crush an Emmy hopeful, the release of the lists could elate an Emmy longshot.

If I remember correctly from last year, the actors and/or their agents are informed when they make The Ten. IIRC, some of the information re: the people on the lists last year came from agents, and I remember we got the confirmation that Jack Coleman did NOT make Supporting Actor - Drama from his agent. So it's really not a matter of keeping the actors from beating themselves up because they're informed. I don't know why they're attempting to withhold it from the public.

I think it's a smart decision on their part to not release the names of the actors and actresses. Releasing the names of shows is one thing, when no one person is responsible for making or not making the list. Not releasing names of actors or actresses is another.
