The two-season pickup NBC gave the show will be its last. The series won't be on NBC until a year from now, as it will play out on DirecTV this fall, I believe.

I'm not surprised, but I'm satisfied. Given its ratings over the years, the fact that it's getting five seasons to tell its stories is a television miracle, something fans of "Veronica Mars," "Arrested Development," "Once and Again," "Joan of Arcadia," 'Pushing Daisies" -- and so on, and so on -- would have killed for. Two more seasons and a chance to end the show on their terms. There's no downside.
The only question is when FNL will next contend for Emmys. Will it be eligible for its DirecTV airing, or will it have to wait until the following year since NBC won't air it until next summer?
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
Well, the article said it is not set in stone. i expect those to be the final episodes, but I'm sure they'll give them more episodes if it randomly does amazingly or something. But I am at peace with them ending in 26 episodes. I'm sure they'll go out with a bang.
While it's not official, two cast members (one who isn't even on the show anymore) have said it's ending, so I'll take their word for it.
It's gonna suck to see this show go, but I'm glad they are setting this up to be the end. At least they'll go out of their own terms. It'll be amazing.
5 seasons would be a fine run for a show that really would've only lasted one season in other circumstances.
I agree creatively, it is perfect to have that set 26 episodes to map out. If by some miracle the show explodes in popularity, there are plenty of roads they can go, but I think it would be best to set out the next two seasons.
What about season 4? When does it premiere on Direct TV??
In 2009 the three best TV female performances in a drama series were all snubbed. Shame to Emmy voters for not nominating January Jones, Alison Pil and Chloe Sevigny.
Perfect Casting! ---------------------------------------------------- Scoop: 'Friday Night Lights' recruits 'Practice' vet by Michael Ausiello
FNL-casting_lFormer Practice star Steve Harris has booked a recurring role on Friday Night Lights, sources confirm to me exclusively.
The two-time Emmy nominee will play Vernon Merriweather, an ex-football star and the father of East Dillon newbie Jess (Jurnee Smollett, inset).
Harris’ FNL deal calls for him to appear in roughly seven episodes of the upcoming fourth season (premiering Oct. 28 on DIRECTV’s The 101 Network).
In related news, guess what just landed on my desk. Go ahead, guess. [Beat] You’re right — it’s a disc containing the season premiere of FNL! Look for my mini-review in this week’s Ask Ausiello. If there’s anything specific you want to know about the opener, send your Qs to
