Chicago Sun-Times (August 13)

Michael Patrick O'Brien, now starring in the Second City show "America: All Better!" in Chicago, has been hired for the "Saturday Night Live" writing staff.

He'll appear at Second City for about two more weeks until moving to New York.

Before joining the Second City cast, O'Brien performed with its touring companies and the long-running iO team the Reckoning. He teamed with "Colbert Report" writer Peter Grosz in an acclaimed iO sketch group called Misled.

Probably just a short step from the writing staff to the actual cast (like many others before him).

Oh that is great news! I actually saw America, All Better when I was in Chicago back in January and it was by far the funniest show I have ever seen, and Michael Patrick O'Brien made me laugh the most! So congrats to him! That is fantastic news!

Yeah I saw Michael Patrick O'Brien at Second City at the "No Country for Old White Men" show. He was down right hilarious (most of the cast was). I really hope he can make it to the cast. I feel like he would except it looks like there aren't any new openings.

Any word yet if Darrell Hammond is returning? The season finale shout out seemed odd, kind of like when they acknowledged Tina Fey's run on WU but didnt say she was leaving.

But don't look back in anger, I heard you say...

I'm pretty sure Will Ferrell's closing acknowledgment of Hammond on the season finale pretty much implied he was leaving.

Megan Fox as the season-premiere host? bs

This girl has no talent and isn't nearly as hot as everyone raves about. Not saying I'd kick her out of bed, but she's overrated in the looks department, IMHO.

Megan Fox?

Well, at least they'll get their worst episode of the season out of the way.

Megan Fox in the season premiere?? Terrible choice! Yes, I agree that they can get this worst episode behind them early on. I just know that SNL could do much, much better in casting for the season premiere!

I will miss Darrell Hammond if he does not come back this year. I hope he will do some guest spots here and there during the season. He is so talented!

If that was the send off Hammond got after nearly 15 years, it just goes to show that SNL has no respect for loyalty. Fallon got a big musical number for his six years on the show when he left.

I'm back after a 2-week stay in the hospital for acute pancreatitis and gallstones, so allow me to deliver a bottom-line answer to this. She's in the most popular movie of the year, even if it will sweep the Razzies, with their boxoffice gross to go over $400 million domestically. She'll pop a big rating for the opener. Kinda cut and dried.

I hope they get a great musical guest to help compensate for this blah hosting choice. I'd like to see them get The Black Eyed Peas or Lady GaGa for the season opener or the like. But watch them pick something like Cobra Starship instead.

I think plenty of people would still turn in if Cobra Starship was picked as the musical guest. I would much rather watch them than the tired out Black Eyed Peas.

Um...hey!

I wouldn't be one of those people, but good for you if you are.

Megan Fox seems to have a lot of attitude so I wonder if she will make fun of herself for that kind of stuff.

WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.
