As much as I love 30 Rock, I think it got nodded for too many for such a mediocre season. The worst nod (for me) is the nod for Alan Alda, who did nothing on the show. His performance was essentially a cameo. It is a shame the best guest performance from the show was not even nominated (Dean Winters). The nominees for comedy series are perfect, though. Kudos, GoldDerby!

Overall, the drama side is a bit better. I wish Britton was placed in lead, but I guess she'll have a better shot at these awards in supporting.

I would say the nomination for Jon Hamm is worse. Alda may have done nothing, but at least he wasn't BAD like Hamm...which pains me to say because he is SO good on Mad Men. Maybe comedy (or at least 30 Rock comedy) isn't his thing

FYC-Album of the Year: Maxwell's BLACKsummers'night

I think Steve Martin's nomination is a crime, b/c it wasn't like he was a big name who did nothing, cough Oprah, but what was worse is that he was doing something and it was horrible.

I agree on Hamm. I was so excited about his guest appearances... and then I saw him. The idea of a doctor so attractive that he does not actually have to be good at his job, or anything else in his life, was funnier than his performance.

You raise a very good point that I think exemplifies the obsessive and reflexive willingness by people on here to fawn over 30 Rock while completely dismissing any reasonable analysis of the show, its performers and its stories. While the show had its highlights this year, namely Baldwin's performance and the writing in the "Generalissimo" episode, the show offered up plenty of absolute horrendous stuff this year like Martin's and Oprah's performances and numerous unfunny episodes (anything featuring Hamm). In fact, I don't think Fey or Krakowski provided any Emmy worthy work all year. Nevertheless, the show will reap at least 15 Emmy noms as old habits are tough to break among Emmy voters. Now don't get me started on the unequivocal train wreck that is Parks & Recreation and Amy Poehler's performance in it.

How come some categories have 6 nominees, and others only 5? Were there a lot of ties?

Anna Friel should be in there.

Elizabeth Moss should be there over Ellen or Flockhart. People give them too much credit for bringing their game up this past couple of years. That may be, but they're still not two of the better actresses on television.

And too much "30 Rock" love, and this comes from someone who thinks its third season was still bettet than 'The Office'.

Congrats Kristen! All the PD haters can (SPOILER ALERT) Suck it!
