Hey folks,

Considering that it appears that 30 Rock is officially the new Emmy darling, and that its second season was littered with more guest stars than one could possible imagine, it has to be considered a favourite in top the comedy nominations if not the nominations total. With guaranteed nominations in lead and series categories, with a couple of potentials in supporting, some shoe-ins for guest, and the chance for multiple nominations in guest roles, the series will certainly perform well.

[If you want a rundown of the show's Emmy chances, I recently posted an analysis of the various races and their submissions (Sadly without video - I'd have used Hulu if I could but Canadian!) at my blog, if you want to take a look: http://tinyurl.com/6zo6xu)

But how well will the show be able to do? Could it manage to top 10 nominations, or will there be too much competition in supporting and in direction/writing for them to make it to the magic number? Plus, although tougher to predict, chances are that the show has chances in terms of the craft awards - I'll imagine a casting nomination is a bit of a no-brainer.

So what are your thoughts: how dominant will 30 Rock be come nomination day?

I could see the following nominations:

Best Series
Best Lead Actress
Beat Lead Actor
Best Supporting Actress - Jane Krakowski
Best Supporting Actor - possible 2 - Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan
Best Writing - 1 or 2 noms
Best Directing
Best Casting
Best Guest Actress - Elaine Stirtch & Edie Falco and Possibly Carrie Fisher
Best Guest Actor - damn they could get all five - Tim Conaway, Dean Winters, Matthew Broderick, David Schwimmer, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Parnell, Rip Torn

I could see as many as 18 - 20 noms but at least 10...

I'm going to guess that it will be the most nominated Comedy, but I don't think it will be the program with highest nominations. I'm thinking...

Series
Lead Actor
Lead Actress
Writing x 2
Directing
Guest Actor x 2 (Will Arnett and either Schwimmer or Broderick.)
Guest Actress x 3 (Falco, Fisher and Stritch.)
Casting
Editing
Sound Mixing

So, right now about 14 nods.

I'm thinking they'll get these 12 noms:

Series
Lead Actor
Lead Actress
Writing
Directing
Casting
Editing
Guest Actor: Wil Arnet
Guest Actor: Matthew Broderick
Guest Actor: David Schwimmer
Guest Actress: Carrie Fisher
Guest Actress: Elaine Stritch

I'm hoping they get two more for Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer... and possibly another couple tech noms

Haha. 18-20? That was funny.

And I beg to disagree that they are the current Emmy darling. They just won Comedy Series. 2 wins out of 10 noms isn't darling status.

However, Emmys have this habit of giving more acting noms to the current Comedy series champ the following year (Arrested Development, The Office) so I'm expecting that they'll include probably one more (McBrayer)

Series
Actor
Actress
Supporting Actor
Writing
Directing
Guest Actor (Schiwmmer)
Guest Actor (Broderick or Arnett)
Guest Actress (Falco)
Guest Actress (Fisher)
Casting
Sound Mixing

12 noms I think.

FYC EMMY VOTERS!!!

Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies)
Julia Louis Dreyfus (New Adventures of Old Christine)

I would tend to agree, but in this case nominations was my criteria for darling status. It's prevalance of guest star nominations and the general awards season hype for the series make it a prime contender, in my eyes anyways, for being the show that gets lauded with nominations and attention. Just like Grey's, really, with its numerous writing/directing/guest noms outside of the regular categories. Not quite up to the status of the West Wing/Sopranos types, but certainly the closest thing to them on the comedy side right now.
