I'd be thrilled if so, but I am not holding my breath.
I am excited to see this episode.
I agree. I'm not waiting for Emmy voters to come back around either.
Nevertheless, I'm still excited about the premiere tonight. This is truly the only show that I've watched religiously this decade. I haven't missed a single original airing.
Cherry did do a great job of writing the plot and really was a great ensemble piece. I hope the background characters back stories don't get forgotten. I think that they are going to to forget Andrews sexuality and that makes me sad.

How the hell is Susan's child blonde?? Is the person Edie's husband said should be worried Susan? Call me nuts but it feels like this guy is out to get somebody and who else could it be but Mike or Susan for the woman and child who died? Actually could the child be the other woman's son? I don't know but that makes sense in my head!!!
Anyway, Bree is back!!!!!!!!!!! "That's no surprise! My pie's are always perfect!" It was very sad that scene where Danielle took the baby away!!!!!!
Loved the Mrs. Shrek joke as well, I'm very pleased with the episode!!!!!

It was a really good premiere. It wasn't a classic episode but it was enough to get me excited about future episodes.
I am going to talk about the storylines openly so if you haven't seen the episode yet then DON'T READ AHEAD (SPOILERS):
At first, I was surprised because I thought that they actually killed off Mike instead of all the rumors about him and Susan divorcing but then as the episode went on, I thought that they were just going to have him pop up at random to surprise us....which did happen. I am not really sure if I like the reason they broke up. Sure, it was over something really tragic but something that wasn't fully in their control.
Bree and Katherine were great tonight. I love these two together, and Marcia and Dana are the show's biggest talents IMO. Also, I wish they'd incorporate Orson into the show a lot more than they usually do....Kyle MacLachlan deserves more.
The Lynette/Tom story with the older twins was the weakest story of the night for me. I did, however, like Tom saying to Lynette "Learn your Brass!!".
I thought what Gaby did to her daughter was cruel, but it was still typical Gaby and I thought Eva did a great job tonight and that her crying scene at the end was very well done. She is definitely coming around and is proving herself to be a credible actress. Give her subtle drama and she will hit it out of the park so to speak....just don't give her anything like when they took Baby Lily away in Season 2....yikes!!
I am not too sure what to make of this new mystery involving Edie's husband Dave. It seems to have similar qualities to the past seasons' mysteries (Someone is on Wisteria Lane searching for a person to get revenge-Season 1 with Mike being the one that popped out to me the most). I am willing to let it pan out and hope it'll take off.
I am very ready for Season 5 overall. I must say though that really hope that they don't go BACK in time for the last season which is a rumor that I've seen online. In some ways, it seems like a good idea but I think they should just stay from the present onward and have flashbacks only if they want to pursue that.
Grade: A- MVP: It really was an ensemble effort tonight but I am going to give the title to Eva Longoria-Parker, with the runner up to Marcia Cross.

I think it would be so crappy if this scenario were true, though for me watching Marcia Cross is enough to be a happy bunny!

Perhaps I watched a different episode than everyone else, but I was less than impressed with the premiere.
I was quite a defender of the fourth season of this series, and really felt that it attained a Renaissance of creativity. The fourth season premiere left me very intrigued and with a stern desire to see more. The mystery was interesting, the new characters seemlessly blended into the canvas, and the episode WORKED.
The five year jump reeked of gimmick, and seemed to perhaps serve as a restart of sorts in order to breathe new life into the series. I am a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," and feel strongly that taking the characters away from the strong foundation built during the last season was a mistake.
I will keep watching, but my red flag was raised as a result of this episode.
I loved everything about this episode; it all worked so well for me. I totally believe the reasons behind Mike and Susan's divorce and i was one that was stunned when Mike popped up mid-way through the episode; though i initally believed it was Susan hallucinating. I love that Edie is more of a centeral presence this season (so far) and that her husband will very clearly be involved in the story for this season (though i am slightly tired of psycho men on Wistera Lane---first Paul Young, than George The Pharmasicst, then Katherine's ex and now this)... I agree Lynette's story was the weakest of the night--but it also had it's good points and i loved how it made Tom wake up and take his job as a parent seriously. To me the best story of the night was Gabrielle and how she wants to help her daughter but doesn't know the right way to go about it. I loved the line she said to Carlos about "with your fat genes"...
My favorite line all night was Edie to Mrs. McCluskey "Mrs. Mckluskey you're still alive". classic Edie.
I was so sad when Danielle took the baby away from Bree and how that has changed Bree into a bitter, cold person which is causing her to mistreat her dear friend Katherine.
My only gripes of the night are minor ones: 1) they didn't give Katherine enough to do, 2) It's five years later and none of the ladies have aged a bit--wouldn't at least one of them have grey hair now? and 3) Orson had nothing to do.
Overall Solid episode, grade A imho and my MVP would easily be Eva Longoria Parker.
Congrats to Kathy Griffin on her second consecutive emmy win!

Hm, I thought this was an excellent episode. Very intriguing... I'm so glad Housewives is back!!!
First of all, I thought the opening was very well done. I thought that was a really interesting way to break up Susan and Mike. You'd think it'd be because of something (or someone) else, but it ended up being exactly what the lady in "Into the Woods" said, Susan just looks for drama. When Susan and Jackson were in the kitchen, it reminded me so much of that scene from season one where John jumps out of the window and Gaby throws him his shirt. Hah.
I almost felt like Lynette and Tom didn't really fast forward all that much. Until the end, I kind of wished that they gave them something else to work with, other than terrible teenagers. However, I did like how Lynette brought up how they have been raising their children, it's something really relatable, I think. And I loved Tom with his car and his tuba-playing. But where were Parker and Penny?
Speaking of, I kept asking throughout the episode "Where's Benjamin?" and I was so sad to see that Danielle took him. I find it weird that Danielle was married to a lawyer... if she was seventeen when she had Benjamin, she couldn't have been more than twenty in the flashback. On another note, I love, love, love Bree and Katharine together! Katharine making Bree bake something she couldn't? Awesome.
I hate Gaby. I find it really hard to sympathize with someone who would make their 4 year old daughter run after the car. I mean really, I didn't find that humorous at all, until the little girl decided to get on the bus. And what about their other daughter? How old is she and why was she not featured at all in this episode? It seems like they could've made Gaby and Carlos's story work just fine with only the one child. But still, I give Eva Longoria my MVP for this episode, because I thought she did a really good job.
The new mystery with Edie's husband is sort of interesting, though I have to admit I find it more interesting now that I've read the opinions on this thread... I didn't even think that Dave could be that little girl's father. I like that Edie's still her old self.
I don't really see how Susan's looking for drama, though. She killed two human beings, one a child. That's traumatizing for any human being, especially a mother of a small child. It'd put a strain on any relationship.

No, I know what you mean. I'm not saying that Susan was being irrational or anything, but the way Mike said "You just look for suffering", really made me think of that episode. I thought it was a good callback.
I thought the episode was fantastic. It was a solid A- and what I have read from Variety and other reviews is that the second episode is much better than the first. And easily the MVP of the night is Eva Longoria Parker. It seems that this can finally be the season when she has the best storylines and gets noticed somewhere (Can't believe she was snubbed last year)...
