March 1, 2008, 8:25 pm Clinton’s Surprise SNL Appearance By Adam Nagourney
When the Clinton campaign plane took off from Texas this afternoon, one person was missing: Hillary Rodham Clinton. Where was she? Mrs. Clinton hopped another plane bound for New York will she will appear later tonight on Saturday night Live, much the way Senator Barack Obama of Illinois did last year. It’s a surprise walk-on, and comes as Mrs. Clinton is finding new places to take her campaign appeal (She is appearing on Comedy Central last week). In what is perhaps not the greatest bit of show business timing, Mrs. Clinton will be sharing the Saturday Night Live bill with Wilco, the popular alt-country Chicago band which has become one of the biggest boosters of – you guessed it, Mr. Obama. (The Obama stickers could be spotted on the band’s gear when it showed up for a two-night stand at 9:30, the Washington music club this week.)

It's either-or with Bell; she'll be out of the country filming When in Rome, or since Bill Hader is a co-star on Forgetting Sarah Marshall, she's got a pretty decent chance to be there. And New York ComicCon happens that same weekend, the east's biggest sci-fi/comic book/multimedia convention. If she's still overseas, I think FSM's male lead, Jason Segel would host that night's episode.

They are going to be so bad next week. I've heard that they're not the greatest live. And on a world-known show? I wouldn't be suprised if they're flat out awful.
anyway, I loved tonight's episode. Ellen was great, she reminded me of when Scarlett J. hosted. Speaking of, "The Other Bolyn Girls" was the highlight, followed closely by "Peter Pan". I'd definitly give the episode a solid A-.
There were a few funny moments here and there (monologue, digital short, Fanning), but Ellen Page was not a very good host at all. On the plus side, I had never really been a fan of Wilco but they were excellent tonight.

FWIW: Bell in Forgetting Sarah Marshall is more of a supporting role, while Mila Kunis is more of the female lead (the film is definitely on the shoulders of Jason Segel, who is in almost every scene.) Much like Knocked Up, FSM is a contrast between two relationships.

Touching the third rail here, but last night's SNL sort of subconsciously threw out a rather ugly first half hour or so.
1. Fred Armison in quasi-blackface portraying a black politician unable to answer debate questions without help from the press.
2. A cartoon that featured a black political leader being shocked by a dog collar.
3. A black man in drag. (this does offend some in the black community as a demeaning image)
Taken individually, one might think that SNL was just having an off night, comedically speaking. But to have all these things in the first half hour? It's not the nicest picture of SNL, a show that has been dogged for its lily-white sensibilities over the years.
The shilling for Hillary is so transparent, I'm beginning to think NBC cut a deal after the whole "pimping out Chelsea" non-controversy.

Look it up, the black actor in drag has caused a great deal of debate within the black community about stereotyping. Taken by itself, Keenan Thompson in a dress might not be that big of a deal. However, if you combine that with the debate sketch where white actor in blackface plays Obama as unintelligent, and a cartoon where Al Sharpton is shocked with a dog collar (again, collars around a black man's neck is a sore subject with some people), SNL was putting forth a pretty ugly image last night.
As for the shilling for Hillary, since when did SNL become the lapdog of the political establishment?

I'm sorry but the black man in drag should not demean a community there are miltiple different races and ethnicities who dress in drag, and this is just a fact, this is just one person expressing how they feel and a late night sketch show to take that as seriously as you do is a little interesting.
anyway... Page was not that great of a host I agree with what others have said, the show wasn't as funny as last week.

It's offensive because black men in drag calls back to the days of minstrel shows. White men in blackface and drag, playing on stereotypes (the "slave voice") to white audiences.
Chappelle & Chris Rock have made efforts to not do drag humor for that very reason. (On the flipside, this argument was spoofed on 30 Rock last season.)
BTW: No need to explain why Chappelle & Rock complaining about stereotypes and race humor is ironic. I already see that.

I thought it was a pretty good episode, but not as good as last week's. Ellen did an ok job and there were a few funny moments. The Amy/Hillary opening was great. Overall, ok but it could have been better. Grade: B
Ellen Page was pretty bad in this with a lot of stilted and unnatural line deliveries throughout the show. That was really disappointing, b/c I thought that this would be an easy thing for her to excel at. I liked the cameos from Hilary Clinton, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Rudy Giuliani though. Andy Samberg as Diablo Cody was hilarious in the monologue, and Wilco was interesting.
