I really enjoyed tonight's episode. Everything until the last 15 minutes was very funny (especially the Walken family reunion, surprise birthday party, office goodbye party, Q&A monologue). I would say Tina Fey is still the best of the season, followed by Brian Williams and then Chris Walken in a close third place.
Yes, this was an excellent episode. The monologue was hillarious, and the Walken family reunion was priceless. I also loved the sketch with the man who was scared of plants. Overall, one of the best this season. (Tina Fey's still probably the best) Episode Grade: A-
They gave Christopher Walken a lot of strong material to work with, but he was practically staring at the cue cards throughout the entire show, and for someone at his level doing that, it was very disappointing. The Walken family reunion sketch was inspired, and Kristen Wiig deserves all the credit in the world for making that surprise birthday party lady one fly the way that it did. No "The Continental" sketch was a major letdown too. I was waiting the entire episode for that one.

I say this with trepidation, but I think there should be a "Penelope" movie. That is honestly one of my favorite characters ever on the show. Has an SNL-spinoff movie ever worked?
I don't think Penelope is strong enough of a character to make a "successful" SNL movie (note, there hasn't been a successful SNL movie since Wayne's World...)
And I love Kristen Wiig and Penelope to death, it just gets kinda old kinda quick. Ending all the skits with her using one of the powers she claims to have during her exxageration meltdowns is getting weird too. But I am liking the pop in from every angle aspect to interrupt.
This week didn't work for me EXCEPT Kristen Wiig's suprise party character and the weekend update I thought was good. I guess I just don't understand the Walken love. He's dry and all, but the constant staring at the cue cards was distracting and he looked on the verge of senility in half the skits. Although the office party was pretty decent too now that I think about it.
See I wasn't a fan of the birthday party skit. Her character annoyed me quickly. Same thing with Penelope and (especially) the Target lady. They are a bit one note. I think Kristen Wiig can be very funny, but those aren't my favorite characters. But then again, I don't always like what others do. Chris Farley and Will Ferrell could grate on me as well.

I think that Kristin Wiig's brilliant. Love the Target lady the most, love that surprise birthday party lady, Penelope, the half of the "2 A-Holes" team (they really need to do that again), and just about all of her other side characters. I don't think that Penelope would work in a feature film though. The rare "SNL" films that have been successful had broad enough characterizations to support a film, and Penelope's too one-note for that as it is now. It's good for two or so minutes, but beyond that, it would become grating. Maybe finding out why she feels the need to top everything that the person before her said would help matters, but even that is a stretch for a film.

Kristin Wiig's a goddess, Gnarls Barkley was cool, and Cameron Diaz should have been the one hosting last night.

Wiig was great and should be Emmy nominated. I also like the Death by Chocolate things which were very funny.
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

It was an uneventful episode. Just ok. Cameron Diaz was a nice surprise, and the night went to Kristen Wiig for her "just kidding" lady and her Activia sketch. Update, as usual, was very good. Episode Grade: B
I actually like Wiig doing Jamie Lee. But can she do something other than annoying characters? They are all so similar. Target lady, Penelope, Aunt Linda, surprise party lady, Just Kidding lady. Seriously! In other stuff she does, I like her, but in those similar annoying characters, I can't stand her. I think I'm the only one that feels that way. hahahahaha
