Recently, on the recommendation of some friends, my husband and I started downloading and watching seasons of "The West Wing". I remember during the series' run how upset I used to get every year when it cleaned up at the Emmys. I didn't understand then just how brilliant this show was/is. Now, however, I am kicking myself for not watching it when it was on.
Does anyone know how many Emmys TWW won overall? I would love to have a year-by-year analysis of nominations versus wins and for which episodes the series and actors involved won.
I know this is asking a lot, but I am truly fascinated by this legend of a show now!!

Both files will be available at those links for 7 Days, so save them to your computer if you want them to keep (however anyone can always ask me and I'm happy to put them back up).
Anyways hope that's some help, and great news YoungRestlessOne! It's always exciteing to hear that someone has descovered this show (in some ways I'm jealous). So where are you up to? Who are your favourite characters/performances? and what are your favourite episodes?
Congratulations West Wing, Emmys most honored drama. 27 Emmys including 4 best drama series "What's Next?"

I'm also a newly minted TWW watcher. I'm currently working my way through Season One. I was too young to understand the show and some of the references when it debuted back in 2000 so I'm making up for lost time, but my god, what an ensemble cast.
Martin Sheen, John Spencer, Richard Schiff, Bradley Whitford are all solid. The great Allison Janney is of course in fine form. I really understand all the Emmy love that has been accorded to her over the years. CJ is truly a steel magnolia. I just watched the appearance of Stockhard Channing as Abigail Bartlet in The State Dinner, and I must say I do love what I see! The actress who plays Donna is hilarious too!
Not really a fan of Rob Lowe or Moira Kelly though; especially the latter. Mandy's character is way too screechy.
Happy New Year, everyone! It's nice to know there are others still discovering TWW besides me and my partner. We are currently halfway through Season Two. I find all the Emmy history fascinating, and I can't thank all of you enough for the charts and website links. I like all of that trivia, although my partner just wants to watch the episodes ;-) We love the show so much we can't get through an evening without watching at least one. He wants to speed through them, but I tend to want to draw them out because I know I'll be upset and sad when we run out of episodes to watch. I'm surprised a show of this calibre didn't last for at least 10 or 11 seasons.
This has to be one of the finest casts ever assembled for a drama series. C.J. is my favorite character, but I love them all. Donna, Mrs. Landingham, Abigail, Josh, Toby, Leo, Margaret....
How did Martin Sheen not get an Emmy for this role???? Criminal. He was perfect as the president.
Some episodes that stand out...In Exelcis Deo, In the Shadow of Gunmen I and II, The Crackpots and These Women, Noel. I haven't been too focused on the names of the episodes, though, so I need to pay more attention to that.
Well, 'tis New Year's Day...lots of free time...so I'm off to watch another episode. Happy 2009.
G'Day, Season 2 is the best imo (closely followed by 1) and if you think Sheen was robbed of an Emmy now just wait til you see the final 6 episodes of season 2.
It really was one of, if not the, the greatest emsembles ever assembled for a television series (or film). Sheen, Schiff and Spencer were the MVP's for mind but Janney and Whitford (who I got to meet in NY) were great as well.
The episodes you list are all great. In The Shaddow of 2 Gunmen was robbed of the writing emmy and would by my 2nd favourite tv episode of all time (or 2nd and 3rd). The Crackpots and These Women was one of my favourites as well (it was actually my first episode) the basketball, the cheese day, toby and bartlet's demons vs. better angels speech and Barlet's concluding what's next speech, the way Sorkin weaves comedy and drama here is outstanding.
Good to hear from you jxsha and you are obviously in for a treat with so many great season 1 episodes to go, all of season 2 and the rest of the series. I liked Ron Lowe and though he was great but in this rich ensemble I do agree he is on the weaker end of it.
Can't wait to see what you guys think as you progress and don't worry YoungRestlessOne you are not alone over the past few years at least 10 of my friends have discovered this show and become addicted (not always because of my badgering) and I live in Australia. I think this series is going to have a very solid shelf life.

Yes, but I also feel he never got knockout storylines and big money scenes like many of the other cast members received. He was still tons of fun in this role, though. I was sad when he left to do that horrid Lyon's Den show, but his return in the last season was a hoot for us devoted fans.

I thought he got some decent storylines or episodes.
The transistion with him going to will and running for congress allowed him to do some of the best work of his career.
He was fantastic throughout all of season 2 (espeically when they allowed him to do comedy). I especially liked him in "Somebody's Going to Emergency, Somebody's Going to Jail"(which is his 'Liftoff'), "The Stackhouse Fillibuster", "Galileo", and "The Portland Trip". However as a "Lead" on this show he was never given enough to do.
Ah, thinking about the West Wing just makes me want to watch it.
G'Day, thought I would post here the sad news about Ron Silvers passing. He may have only been a guest on this show but Bruno was a great character brought to the screen through a great performance. This was one of the best guest gigs on this show and they had a whole lot of great ones. He more than deserved his emmy nomination for the 3rd season and possibly should have won.
