we are now in the final quarter of 2009 and with that said i have the current list of who i believe are the frontrunners in the big seven categories.............. lead actor 1.doug davidson, y&r 2.david canary, amc 3.peter bergman, y&r 4.jon lindestrom, atwt 5.james scott, dool it was tough to leave braeden out of the top five but he was the third y&r actor. dd rose to the top after the maryjane stuff. canary is surrounded by crappy writing but you can't ignore the mourning of his brother and chances are he will take home the gold if nominated and he submits that-unless nom votes again determine the winner. notable mention is roger howarth who has shined again since working with kmh and not marie wilson. lead actress 1.michelle stafford,y&r 2.maura west, atwt 3.jess walton,y&r 4.arrianne zuker, dool 5.susan flannery,b&b stafford has continued to rack up tapes and is still the one to beat. west only has one tape and she will likely submit that. stafford does not want to slip up in submitting a bad tape because if that happens west could win. also, jess walton may be the veteran factor this year and judges could give her the sentimental vote. notable mention goes to alison sweeney for grace's death.
i honestly have not been impressed with this category overall. it seems there hasnt been much material giving to the supporting actors other than miller and irrizarry and those that do get it are ones that are not good enough actors. maybe its the homerism in me but i think rikaart's work is the best still. miller has challenged with his most recent stuff and he just may pull off the upset. notable mention is atwt's van hansis for holden's "death", but dawson has been the better supporting actor so far this year.
supporting actress 1.stacy haiduk,y&r 2.beth maitland,y&r 3.crystal chappelle,gl 4.florencia lozano, oltl 5.lynn herring, atwt haiduk still is the frontrunner but i highly doubt she even gets in. i have been going back and forth with sharon case because a shick reunion takes away the standalone work case has done this year, but it seems that shick is not going to happen again anytime soon at least in the long term. case has been great as a standalone character when she has delivered. i was close to putting sarah brown fifth for some of the slight work she had this year because she's closer here than lead and i believe she will not submit lead next year. i am waiting to see how her b&b role takes off because if she is given anything before year's end, she may be the frontrunner should she submit for there instead of gh, i dont care if its less than two months.
younger actor 1.drew garrett,gh noone else even deserves to be in this argument.
younger actress 1.emily o'brien,y&r 2.lexi ainsworth,gh 3.taylor spreliter, dool 4.kirsten storms,gh 5.meredith hagner, atwt this also really isnt an argument, but at least the others here have shown they might make a challenge and the fact that its really just one episode eob has. i included hagner because i have seen a vast improvement with her and now that she has people like howarth and hensley to work with, it could only get better. notable mention goes to shelley henig for the pill addiction/breakup story.
drama series 1.general hospital 2.young and the restless 3.days of our lives 4.as the world turns the carnival put gh in the forefront now. atwt is back in the nomination argument with their recent turnaround and a couple of standout tapes.

Alison Sweeney from DAYS is a GLARING omission from the Lead Actress category. She has given the best leading actress performance of the year so far with Grace's death.
Shelley Hennig, also from DAYS, should be added to the Younger Actress list.
------- FYC: 2008 Primetime Emmys
Bill Paxton, Michael C. Hall and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Lead Actor in a Drama Series)
THE TUDORS, DEXTER and BIG LOVE (Drama Series, Directing & Writing)

Also, Noelle Beck (ATWT) had a couple of amazing weeks last month- definitely enough for a reel. Also, I personally don't watch it but from what I've been reading and hearing, OLTL is supposedly the greatest show on earth. So I'm surprised to hear someone who does watch the show not put it in their top four.

I know you don't care for Ali Sweeney, daytimeemmyfan, but I think she has a really strong possibility of breaking through next yr. Voters who watch that and are not moved don't have a heart.
And I second Noelle Beck for a nomination and hell a win. She has been breathtaking. Martha Byrne who (ppl. don't kill me, but I have loved this woman in this role since day 1 and I am so glad that she is getting material that is worthy of her.)
The thing about OLTL is that it is a good show, but they never submit their best. I mean they could've won if they submitted what they did for writing which got them a win.

don't understand the garrett love but perhaps it's because i think the character is so annoying

i didnt include oltl because other than the baby fallout and the drug abuse story, and other than kish the show hasnt been all that great this year to me. the top three are in because of events such as the carnival, y&r's early stuff and actually most recent, dool's grace's death and philip's shooting. atwt with holden's presumed death, carly's sendoff, something from the stenbeck stuff. atwt actually is the most watchable show right now.
sweeney may have a shot but she's not on my list and zuker is about to shine coming up. but i think back in july i had ommitted sweeney. i just can't get behind beck as a emmy worthy actress because i feel that she isnt right for the role. i still see a lot of fakeness in lily. but look at that list..where would you put beck? not above haiduk, case, chappelle, lozano. and herring has been fantastic from the get go and i think her splashiness exceeds beck's improved dramatics. beck certainly doesnt pull you in the screen like herring does. she has no place in the top five and atwt snubbed her last year for pinson and hensley. i can't please everyone.
spreliter did okay during grace's death when she broke down to nicole. i dont care for the mia character either. and i'm not a henig fan but a lot of her dramatic stuff gets overshadowed by her no so great stuff where stephanie acts like she can do no wrong and throws blame at everyone else. her character can be irritating at times. mia's just boring to me. as for garrett, he has had the best acting material by far, but i agree michael is annoying. if henig could have performances like him, her annoyance wouldnt be so much in the way but she's just an ok actress. again, disagreements will happen.
oh, and no i am not one of the oltl fanatics on here. in fact i used to be very critical of the show. the show has gotten much better based on quality so i have let off on it.
The Alison Sweeney point's been made, so I'll just say I agree with the majority.
I think the suggestion of Noelle Beck was for lead actress, not supporting. Also, my feeling is Sharon Case will compete in lead and Jess Walton in supporting. I also question Doug Davidson's placement in lead, not because I don't think that's where he should be, but because I'm not sure that's where he'll end up.
I don't watch GH, so I will just take everyone's word for it that Drew Garrett is amazing, but Eddie Alderson's had some good performances this year so I think he should at least get on the list.
I love the Mia character and I'm very fond of Taylor Spreitler, but I certainly see how some people wouldn't be. She did have good performances surrounding Grace's death, and she's been more consistent lately, so I bet she'll get good when she finds out Grace was her baby. Stephanie is an annoying character, but I think Shelley Hennig brings something to the role that makes her a little more tolerable and a lot more grounded.

When the voters watch the submission tapes, does it really matter to them if the character is annoying or not? I see there's a big discussion over certain characters' annoyance, but can you even tell that by watching only 2 tapes? From what I've seen, actors mostly submit stuff in which they cry or yell, to put it like that. So, you can't really tell a lot from that, except whether or not the certain actor/actress can act. But, that could be just me.
i tend to list the actors that i feel are the most dyamic based on their best tapes. and really i tend to not include those that ham it or overact, i go for almost perfection. i'm not going to beat the dead horse with sweeney.
in 2003 dd was nominated for lead. thats why i figured he would go there. as for walton she has said she hasnt been submitting but y&r is like amc when veteran status tends to play a role where you submit not screentime status. i believe case had said that she might go supporting because she felt her chances were better when nelson interviewed her a while back. thats where she needs to go, good luck against stafford, cooper, and walton.
i updated the list and only because she isnt viewed as a regular i didnt think of maitland. and that was a mistake by me, as i did not intentionally leave her out. she's in now and case is out.
I only watch OLTL so I can only compare it to the prime time shows I watch and it definitely stacks up well against them so I don't see how it's not the best daytime drama out there. The Matthew accident story was powerful. David Vickers' latest return to Llanview has been nothing short of fantastic. Then there's the absolute best story of the year - the Oliver and Kyle love story. That story is as good if not better than any story in prime time this year. I honestly don't think any other daytime drama has received as much praise and press this year.
The show deserves nominations and wins for Series, Directing, Writing and several acting awards next year, specifically Supporting Actor (Claywell), Supporting Actress (Sumpter) and Young Actor (Evans - assuming he meets the mid-20s age limit).
FYC: "Up" for Best Picture and Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director
though i have been let down so far this year, hopefully sjb will come into emmy argument when claudia takes carly hostage on gh. and the truth comes out next week and we will see if the writers give sjb the material. spoilers also seem to indicate she won't be killed off. the last two weeks of her stint are on emmy alert. noone has a spectacular reel so far this year.
