Am I the only one who finds both of these storylines eerily similar? Not to mention the fact that both storylines happened around the same time. The only major difference between the two stories IMO was Days of Our Live's campier take on it. You've got the town's central female character (Marlena=Reva), and her long-term soulmate (John=Josh) who's involved with the younger good-girl-turned-bad who's many lies (both including a deceased baby) are culminating to her climactic meltdown (Kristen=Annie).

I've even included a clip from both stories' climaxes:

Kristen's breakdown

Similar storylines, but Kristen and Annie were
blatantly written into a corner and sacrificed at the alter of their respective soap's supercouple.

However, acting-wise, Watros kicked ass in that courtroom breakdown, I like Eileen and all, but the writing in her scenes wasn't as effective and she had a tendency to take things a little too over the top (which is fine for those scenes).

I also think Watros benefited from better acting partners. Hall and Hogestyn just don't stack up to Zimmer and Newman.

I completely agree with this.

It was so bad at GL because Zimmer couldn't stand all the attention Watros was receiving(deservedly so)that Watros left the show. Davidson just couldn't handle the work load anymore. Still, it was obvious that Kristen and Annie never stood a chance. I'm just thankful that I got to watch Davidson and Watros bring these self-destructive ladies to life.

Wow, you have made my day! I've been trying to find clips of Annie's breakdown on YouTube. Watros certainly earned that Emmy. She and Zimmer made fantastic rivals. Annie did all these despicable things and you still felt for her. What a wonderful actress!

Yeah, I did always think of these storylines as strangely similar, but yes DAYS certainly went for the camp. Reva and Josh are such different characters than Marlena and John though. Kristen's presence actually made Marlena a tougher, more fierce character, where she's usually more mild and very tame. And John was really a caricature of a character. He was basically a placeholder in the storyline. Still, it's probably my all-time favorite soap story. (I can't compare it to Reva/Josh/Annie because I didn't see almost any of it.)
