this day marks the last day of the first half of the year so its time for me to list the top five actors besed on their best tapes in each category.

drama series
1.young and the restless
2.days of our lives
3.one life to live
4.all my children

while boring right now, y&r has the best tapes to submit this year over the other soaps from earlier in the year. dool with the events of grace's death and tony's death took second. oltl has dropped a little but still has had some solid shows, and amc did have some strong stuff in january and february with rianca and greenlee's death.

lead actor
1.david canary,amc
2.peter bergman,y&r
3.cristian leblanc,y&r
4.eric braeden,y&r
5.jon lindestrom,atwt

just missed:
michael knight,amc
thorsten kay,amc

canary is having a resurging year and i believe despite the bad writing and horrification of stuart dying, canary delivered with it. he's a 5 time emmy winner who could be a threat to win to the real emmy judges when he's nominated. bergman put himself over leblanc with the past two months of work. i considered kay because he may not be the best actor, but he has been given the material and compared to cameron matheson, he's great.

lead actress
1.michelle stafford,y&r
2.jess walton,y&r
3.arrianne zuker,dool
4.maura west,atwt
5.susan haskell,oltl

just missed:
susan flannery,b&b
hillary smith,oltl
laura wright,gh
sarah brown,gh

why am i not listing ali sweeney? because i am not a fan of the actress and find her to be one of the biggest award hogs in daytime. how many sod awards does she already have? i'll leave it at that. but stafford is the true frontrunner here over anyone, and i give walton the best chance to beat her without any interferrence by the darkhorses in flannery and brown. however, walton is not out of danger from cooper taking her place and likely wont end up nominated unless cooper decides she must pull out.

supporting actor
1.greg rikaart,y&r
2.billy miller,y&r
3.justin deaz,gl
4.bradford anderson,gh
5.trent dawson,atwt

just missed:
jason thompson,gh
joseph mascolo,dool
van hansis,atwt
vincent irrizarry,amc

i still think rikaart's work in march is the stuff to beat. dawson moved into fifth thanks to balancing his dramatic tape with a comical tape. anderson has improved a lot this year and deaz strong acting in coop's death has been enough to be top three despite the show's abysmal production.

supporting actress
1.stacy haiduk,y&r
2.tricia cast,y&r
3.martha byrne,gh
4.crystal chappelle,gl
5.elizabeth hendrickson,y&r

just missed:
kimberly mccullough,gh
melissa egan,amc

could y&r have made the worst move by reuniting shick or now messing up sharon's character a worser time? but this past month haiduk came out of nowhere and knocked case's work off. she came in just as case left, and tricia cast didnt make things any better for her either. she went from ! to x. and boy martha and tricia both came and liz and cc got better to knock km out of the top five. martha has arrived on gh with a bang so far and already has contending tapes.

younger actress:
1.emily o'brien,y&r
2.taylor spreighter,dool
3.lexi ainsworth,gh
4.kirsten storms,gh
5.kirsten alderson,oltl

just missed:
shelley henig,dool
julie berman,gh

o'brien's gina-jana faceoff tape is still the best of a younger actress this year and with nelson breaking the news that anyone can submit where they want next year(i think he said that?) that brough ks back, who i thought might have been ineligible here before that. ainsworth has been a nice addition and henig has gotten better but i still hate when she cries or screams so at least she was considered.

younger actor
1.drew garrett,gh
2.kevin schmidt,y&r
3.mick hazen,atwt
4.billy magnussen,atwt
5.dylan patton,dool

this has got to be one incredibly weak category though i caution if brandon barasch,gh would submit here with the no age limit rule. magnussen reemerged with the riley-casey stuff but garrett, as i solely predicted before he aired, is by far the frontrunner here and his name should already be engraved on the trophy.

special(not likely)
fans choice
alison sweeney,dool
maybe the emmys can do another one of those fans choice things like in 2002, and who won one of them? oh, that right, yours truly. no question in my mind that if such a thing happened again and the fans got to vote for one person not nominated to win an emmy, this is sweeney's for sure.

i decided not to do writing or directing at this point.

how can allison sweeney be an awards hog, if this thread is about the daytime emmys and she's never even gotten a nomination

Hillary B. Smith should definitely be in contention somewhere; I don't know whether I'd put her in Lead or Supporting, but she had some killer scenes opposite Susan Haskell earlier this year.

I thought HBS was fantastic during the aftermath of Matthew and Cole's accident. If she gets more material with Lindsay's return and the conclusion of the Bo-Nora-Clint triangle, then I'd have no problem with her going lead.

I don't think that older actors can still submit in the younger categories if they want to. I thought the news was just that you don't have to get prenommmed in a category by your show, you can just throw your name in for whichever category, lead or supporting, you'd like. Sharon Case will probably be going lead, and Joe Mascolo will almost definitely be supporting, not lead.

Alison Sweeney's work over the last month has been too strong to ignore, fan or no. She deserves an Emmy nod for this year (so far), no matter how many SOD awards she has!

Bring Back Marlena!

W/o a doubt Michelle Stafford & Alison Sweeney are the definition of "Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series". For me if both are nominated I don't care who gets the last 3 slots b/c both women set the bar high so far this yr.

According to Jason47.com, Alison Sweeney has 6 of the now defunct SOD awards. You can't put SOD Awards and Emmys on the same level. This is just someone who doesn't like her.

The actress playing Kristina's last name is Ainsworth, not Hainsworht.

There is an age limit for Younger Actor, I do believe it is 26.

okay, thank you for the correction on ainsworth. her name popped up to me at the last minute.
yes, i am annoyed with sweeney, personally it bothers me as to how she not only has six sod awards, but is the host of a nbc reality show, has had cameos on primetime shows, lots of appearances on the entertainment shows, is the representative nearly everytime someone from dool is to announce emmy nods. if you dont watch daytime at all, the name likely to pop up is luke(gh), erica(amc) or sami(dool). and back in school i was friends with this one girl who watched dool, and the center of the subject was always sami. and as i pointed out on the dool thread, just wait for what arrianne zuker does soon when this baby switch comes out, she is in the kristen blake position of the show right now. however, its one thing to say sweeney deserves a nod, but to say she will challenege stafford is something i dont neccessarily agree with.

hillary smith confuses me because even without the i-s vote, its not like three people from one soap in the same cat are all gonna have a shot. i'm sure strasser will submit where the show tells her again, smith goes lead with people like haskell there and sleazak its gonna be hard. smith would be wise to go supporting she will most definitely be a nominee over ilene kristen, who was nominated the two straight years she was pre-nommed in 04 and 05. her going lead does her no favors. but your right, she should be in consideration so i'm gonna be fixing some things.

okay. 2 corrections...first of all in your "just missed"...um....michael knight is NOT on dool....and second of all...joseph mascolo is nowhere near a lead actor this year, he always falls under supporting, and definitely does this year as well!

okay thanks for that, i had to replace mascolo with knight, i guess i forgot to change the show as well. and i just did put mascolo under supporting. usually i dont think airtime affects where someone submits, more like veteran or newbie status. many longtime actors go lead because of their status of such. case in point, nancy lee grahn, erika sleazak and david canary have went lead every year it seems even if they weren't leads on the show.

i know what you mean, perfect example: ANTHONY GEARY! he is rarely ever a lead, but he always manges to pull of a nod and usually a win....ugh.

Right now for Lead Actress the way I think this should go is Crystal Chappell (who could make history and be a double nominee next yr., if her comeback role on Days is well recieved), Michelle Stafford, Alison Sweeney, & Maura West. That final slot could go to either Jess Walton (depending on if she submits and where) & Susan Flannery.
Out of the ABCD gals I think Susan Haskell & Debbi Morgan could make it back, but both don't have that buzzed about story which got them in this yr. Sarah Brown has been really impressive as Claudia so I can see them picking her as an ABC nominee, but the person who I hink should represent ABC is Laura Wright b/c she has been consistently phenomenal this yr.
And of course I think Arianne Zuker could be somewhat of a longshot, but would be a welcome nominee. And she has the material to go either Lead or Supporting w/o catching any flack.

based on spoilers i read about claudia, i'll reserve judgement on sarah brown until i see how it plays out. but laura wright and gh has finally turned me against carly. i dont even enjoy watching her anymore. and she doesnt want carson again, which she never really had to begin with. thats the thing if morgan and haskell are having lesser than last year then they wont be in again. cc i dk how dool can get three nods wont happen. i would think if she submitted for dool if she gets something then either she or maura is gonna get snubbed, because gl is the one voting here likely, and if zuker or sweeney were to have a chance, that has to be the case. but likely, if such, cc would just ruin sweeney's and zuker's chances of a nod. i have to be honest with nlg likely eligible next eyar i see a better nomination tandem with her and brown than brown and wright and she is getting material lately, albeit mediocre. its two at y&r,flannery, west, and the last is between zimmer,zuker/chappele, and brown to me. so we'll see.

i wanted to do a update on the categories show by show to show which ones are in the strongest contention.

lead actor
amc-david canary
atwt-jon lindestrom, maybe roger howarth
b&b-noone
dool-james scott, brian datillo
gh-anthony geary
gl-grant alexander, robert newman
oltl-robert woods
y&r-doug davidson, peter bergman, cristian leblanc

davidson came close, but i think canary is still the frontrunner.

category of strongest contenders show by show

lead actress
amc-bobbie eakes
atwt-maura west
b&b-susan flannery
dool-arianne zuker, alison sweeney, lauren koslow
gh-sarah brown, laura wright, nancy lee ghran
gl-kim zimmer(cc i believe is suporting)
oltl-susan haskell(though not likely) and erika sleazak(definitely not likely)
y&r-michelle stafford, jess walton, melody thomas scott, and jeanne cooper

stafford has the most work, a lot of standout tapes and should still be the frontrunner, but west's july performance is going to step on any submission blunder stafford makes as she overtook walton for the runner up position.
