I, like you, love Greg Rikaart but this Clint storyline is beyond awful. Please don't praise it - as it'll encourage Y&R to create more crap like this. :-)
Oh Nelson, the GoldDerby community stands by you in your time of need as you battle your addiction to crack ... wait, you're enjoying the Kevin-Clint storyline sober!? It's even worse than I thought.
But seriously, I can't abide this stupid storyline any longer. I'm all for revisiting Kevin's terrible childhood, but why must we do it with the awful Clint character, who serves no purpose other than to demonstrate what happens when you skip your acting classes?
What the hell is this GH event I've been waiting for? Do the Zaccharas die in a building fire set by Monica and Bobbie in a bidfor more screentime? I've been waiting for that event for a year and a half.
As for your month without soaps, I suspect, Nelson, that you will be less prone to fits of rage and your television set will sustain less damage from shoes hurled at the screen. Join Netflix, catch up on the classics of the silver screen. DVR and watch shows like "Breaking Bad," "Battlestar Galactica," "Dollhouse," "Lost," "Friday Night Lights," and "Big Love," if you don't watch them already. ("The United States of Tara" should ease your soap withdrawal; it's about multiple personalities.) Read a book. Go on walks. Take up horticulture or macrame (I don't actually know what those are, but the words sound funny).
Or here's an idea. Take that month and plot out a year of your own soap opera. I guarantee it'll be better that most of what's in daytime right now, as long as you stay away from storylines involving Stockholm Syndrome.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
My full time job is covering film and prime time, some music and books, so I'm all good; but thanks for the suggestion.
I've been thinking about this experiment for a while, and since I'm away all month in LA and on the Rock the Soap Cruise, I thought March would be the best month to do it.
Everytime I've taken a week or so off, I've noticed I'm happier and it's harder to get back into the soap watching. I almost have to force myself, but I also do it as a job, so we'll see how it works out.
Good luck Nelson and hopefully your life gets better w/o the soaps.
The only thing that is working for me in the Clint & Kevin story is Greg b/c he's been riviting in those scenes and I am on the bandwagon that he's the frontrunner to win the Emmy for Supporting Actor next yr.
They need to either get rid of Clint or recast b/c the guy is beyond terrible!

I'm not saying my life will get better without soaps — I LOVE THEM; THEY MADE ME WHO I AM — I'm more interested to see what I miss and not miss. It's seriously just a journo experiment.
While I agree Greg and Emily are doing fantastic work in this story, this was not a story Maria Bell needed to fix.
It was wonderfully written and acted under Jack Smith and cuminated in CLB and GR winning emmys for the storyline. That Kevin story, which played out for over a year, had terrific performances by not only Christian and Greg, but also Tracey Bregman and Joan Van Ark.
By the way, where is Lauren in this story? She played such an important part in the earlier story, risking her own reputation, believing Kevin could be a better person. Her belief in Kevin made him a better person and along with Michael, she was a surrogate parent to him. Now who knows if she even cares if Kevin is kidnapped. Lauren has always been front and center in a family crisis and now she hasn't been on in weeks.
Michael feels out of place with Kevin's gang and is little more than legal cover. We are not seeing how Michael feels about this other than superficial worry. Where is the Michael who would move Heaven and Earth to save Kevin or a family member?
Plus, they went from the farce of the Katherine kidnapping to this very dark story and unlike the original story, Kevin has become a victim of Stockholm Syndrome in a week. Terrible Tom was menacing, Clint is a joke.
I think this really is a vehicle for having Amber save Kevin so they can set up yet another quad between Kevin/Jana/Daniel/Amber. And while I like the chemistry between all four I don't want to see another couple switch.
If Maria Bell was being true to Kevin's story, the person "getting Kevin out of the closet" would be Michael just as he did when Kevin was a little boy and later as a young man. Jana's love and acceptance would reach Kevin and they would bring Kevin back to his family which includes Lauren and Gloria. It would take Kevin along time to recover which could set yp conflict between him and Jana, Daniel and his family.
Instead I bet we will see Amber, who knows little of Kevin's dark past, be the one to find and reach Kevin. Amber is the heroine in Kay's story. She doesn't need to be in Kevin's story also.

Nelson if you end up give up soaps for a month I would love to see an article about your soap detox.
Also I wanted to thank you for the funniest thing I've heard in months. Your real time reaction to Molly Burnett pre nomination on the Daytime Confidential podcast was hilarious.
"OMG! I didn't even realize Molly Burnett was pre nominated!" "OMG I skipped over Days!" "OMG they gave Molly Burnett a pre nomination!" "OMG! Oh No!
apparently i think kevin is gonna be in the psych ward and still be accused of the bombing and others, i mean y&r has that jail set and they likely will put kevin in next. if the whole town didnt hate kevin enough already, i wouldnt have a problem with the accusing part. its just they do and its gonna likely cause me to tune out, just when mac is returning.
I am a fan of Rikaart's, Nel, but i am NOT enjoying this story. I think this was Maria's attempt to give Greg a frontburner story since he was languishing on the backburner for so long.
I would have rather seen a story that showed the strain between Kevin and Jana as she wanted to start a family and Kevin was hesitant....afraid he wouldn't be a good father considering his tortured childhood. This could have driven a wedge between the couple, and Jana could have sought comfort in Daniel's arms.
After that, it would have made sense for Kevin to unravel, because everyone he has ever loved has abandoned him. THAT would have been a much better story than this crap with Clint and him dressing up like a damn chipmunk. Has Maria been drinking out of the same dixie cup brother-in-law Brad has?????
As for you, Nel...best of luck to you as you detox this month. Enjoy the sunshine in LA, the cruise and get rejuvenated. I'm about to do that soon, too. We all need that time away to recharge the batteries. It is spring afterall....time for new beginnings!
Bon Voyage, Nel.....check in with us from time to time.
well lets not forget as much as we can praise y&r, hogan while he has his talents also was known for gimmicky plots on atwt, like the diamond for instance or when jack sat crazy julia in the punch bowl or the dead horse. i have to think he had some imput here.

Yup. I said it before and I don't mind repeating that this whole kidnapping fiasco has Hogan Sheffer written all over it.

MAB's bad stories were just dull and endless. This is a whole another animal and I'm not sure who's responsible: Rauch or Sheffer. They both have a penchant for stories like these.
