This is typically such a god-awful category at the Emmys, not because there are no talented young actors, but because it's so difficult to find them among the hundreds of vapid fitness models they hire instead of actors.
Younger actress is usually better, because in the female-driven industry, it's easier to find young breakouts stars among women, like Rachel Melvin, Julie Berman, and Jennifer Landon in recent years.
Anyway, who could contend for younger actor this year? Bryton McClure seems like a decent bet. OLTL's Brandon Buddy is vastly improved, but not so much that I think he'll break through Emmy's usually glaring OLTL blind spot. We could very well see GH's Dylan Cash come into play for his last months as Michael. AMC's Cornelius Smith Jr. is 26 according to his IMDb birthdate, so if he submits as a younger actor, he's got a good shot of getting into a relatively weak field. From GL, I'd say we should expect Tom Pelphrey to receive a repeat nomination, and perhaps a third win. And Lawrence Saint-Victor -- also 26 -- though I don't think a very good actor, has a lot of showy emotional fireworks in the episodes around Max's death that might convince Emmy voters to check off his name. And don't rule out Y&R's Kevin Schmidt. I don't know if he has a decent tape, but even if he doesn't we know how Y&R manages to vault its actors into nominations they don't deserve
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
whew with this category top five(as if there are five) 1.bryton mcclure,y&r 2.billy magnussen,atwt 3.darrin brooks,dool 4.cornelius smith,jr.(who won't get in) 5.josh duhon,gh(also wont get in or prenommed)
nominees that arent deserving kevin schmidt,y&r tom pelphrey,gl if eligible alternate would be mick hazen, atwt upset nomination: e.j. bonilla,gl
best actor:bryton mcclure(he just goes by bryton now doesnt he?)-tyra and ana stuff strong case:billy magnussen, atwt(emily affair and virus stuff) upset: only one true upset if he were to get in and that is e.j. bonnilla(rafe on the run, rafe in jail, gus' death- that screams upset)
not an upset, but cornelius smith would win if nominated though he is a bit over the top. i think looking at all the flaws in everyone else, i just think mcclure will come out on top.
oh well. sorry, I dont feel the same way. If the Daytime Emmy's are too stupid not to have a guest category, then it's going to keep happening. Everyone was fine when Genie Francis swooped in and did a cameo and picked up an Emmy 2 yrs ago. Tom was on for 6 weeks in 08 and had some good material and turned in more good performances. That and the lack of younger GL actors...he should get a nod. The category is a joke anyway!

Isn't there a certain number of episodes an actor must be in to qualify for consideration? I remember reading about this when Camryn Grimes nominated for her last year.
This is a weak category. I'd really only go for Darin Brooks and Brandon Buddy.
Pelphrey was on when GL looked really bad so I wonder if people will be able to watch that.
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

Darrin Brooks Mick Hazen Brandon Buddy Tom Pelphrey Bryton McClure
Spoilers: Billy Magnussen (Hazens spot), Cornelius Smith (Pelphreys spot).
Long shot: Lawrence St. Victor
if tom pelphrey is nominated again i 'm done with this category
The Emmys do seem to love him and while I agree he shouldnt necessarily get a nod I do believe he will. Hes almost guaranteed a prenom and this category is pretty soft.
tom pelphrey's return was one of the worst this year. i dont recall much praise about his last stint. but if he is prenommed he will be nominated. i just thought maybe he wasnt eligible because he is 25 and just turned or is about to turn 26. supposedly i thought the natas had lowered the ineligibility age one year this year in the younger categories. maybe that wasnt official.
Billy Magnussen Brandon Buddy Bryton McClure Darren Brooks Cornelius Smith
i think these are the nominees this year.
The other possible choices are: Austin Smith (OLTL's Shane), Darrin Brooks (Max, DOOL) and Blake Berris (Nick, DOOL).
Phelphrey has already won so i think the urgency to award him is no longer there. Brandford Anderson is too old to compete here, he's competing in Supporting actor so that leaves him out.
I would like to see Buddy win, but have a feeling either Magnussen or Smith will take it.
Praying The Daytime Emmys air on TV in 2010!
