50/50 Chance (It Really Just Depends):
Like Nelson mention when he was on DC’s Emmy PreNom podcast, there’s a chance for this category to be really good or really bad. First things first all of these actors in this category are talented and deserve to be here, but for me it is a matter of the material they had and how they brought it last yr.
The AMC boys brought something that this category needed for sometime. Fresh faced newcomers who have range and can hold their own up against veterans. If it was up to me both would be nominated, but I think out of these two Cornelius Smith Jr. will be the one that is nominated.
ATWT has the best chance out of the other shows to have two of their prenoms deservedly nominated in this category. They have two talented actors who had great material (Mick had the Liberty & Parker romance and Billy had the Emily & Casey romance/hospital crisis) and have some of the best actors & actresses in scenes they played off of. ATWT has had 2 actors nominated in this category two yrs in a row. They can definitely go for a three peat.
Days has a good lineup here and I would love for both to be nom, but I can really see only one being nominated and that is last yrs nominee Darin Brooks. Even though most lament the current writing regime at Days, they did do Darin a favor and gave him some of the best material he’s ever gotten. From the death of his father, to finding out about his biological father he came into his own and like I said about the ATWT boys had strong actors in his scenes like Peggy McCay & Roscoe Born. And then there’s Blake Berris who was criminally neglected at that show. He was not the cookie cutter actor and always brought no matter what the material called for. Even though his final storyline was very Emmy bait, I don’t know if it will appeal to the voters and for me the writing and his screen partner Molly Burnett does not help him.
GL’s E.J. Bonilla should’ve been here last yr. in place of Lawrence St. Victor and the only thing of significance that he did last yr. that stood out to me was the death of Gus, so if he submits that I would not be surprised to see his name.
OLTL prenoms are good, but I would’ve switch out Eddie Alderson for Austin Williams. I think the reason Eddie got in was thanks to the buzz he got from being in Changeling and the fact that he’s on contract b/c I don’t remember Matthew being prominent. Like his sister, he’s great, but I would rather him be nominated next instead of this yr. Brandon Buddy has really grown as an actor and has some strong stuff that has Emmy bait written all over it, but I really don’t think he’ll get it.
Y&R has the advantage of being the kings of block voting. Bryton is OK and he’s the filler nominee so he’ll get it and I think Kevin’s work this yr. is one to watch out for next yr. so he shouldn’t be nominated this yr.b/c he really didn’t do anything last yr. and it would kind of annoyed me that they would give it to him this yr. when they never gave it to Hunter Allan.

the difference between that is that hunter alan wasnt a teen and kevin schmidt is.

to be honest, i dont believe block voting is happening in the younger categories unless cbs has enough choices, cbs just has happened to have better talent here than abc while smith,jr. is the best cbs has enough actors this year, and while some dont agree bryton is not a bad actor to cbs. and schmidt can get in because its younger actor.

cbs's best are bryton, magnussen, and hazen. but i could see them working in schmidt with bryton. because he is the sole choice at gl, bonnilla will get in. but somehow one of the deserving will have to get robbed for smith,jr. or brooks to get in and i think it will be hazen maybe because he's a little younger and he doesnt stand out like the way magnussen does. he has a much better chance next year. while i see the possible conflict of kennedy for smith,jr's chances,i don't think kennedy has enough to challenge and smith is the only talented option at abc counting out oltl. so i think he gets in. unfortunately unlike last year, brooks is getting left out because passions is gone and smith likely will replace most of his votes from last year.

the nominees will be
cornelius smith,jr.,amc
billy magnussen,atwt
e.j. bonnilla,gl
bryton,y&r
kevin schmidt,y&r

with any luck the goldderby awards will reflect on the emmys and Darin Brooks will win, since he deseves too...and he's leaving the show, and therefore probably won't get a prenom next year, since he hasn't done as much this year.

agreed on 4 out of 5 i left out magnussen for schmidt cause y & r has a great track record for getting nods in this category, and any category really, it's like the votors see the young and the restless and automatically check the box

here are the odds for younger actor.....

billy magnussen, 8.7-10/10 shot
this has to be his if mick hazen isnt nominated with him. even if that happens he still could win. i see him getting most of gl, he and mick splitting at y&r because they wouldnt support bonnilla i dont think and cbs should come before sony(dool). also at abc, amc could only vote for two actors from oltl and i think they vote partially for buddy and the other half for magnussen, who is the best actor on the ny soaps based on last year due to working with kmh. and if magnussen submitted that stuff with her, i dont see why he wouldnt get those votes. he has become a different actor with the other stewart.

bryton mcclure and kevin schmidt, 5/10 shot
i dont think they are going to win and i believe kevin gets nominated with bryton. the last two years, it was a child actor prenommed. before that bryton was the second actor to graziadei and lago to graz, despite who actually won. if its decent in this category and on a top soap, its nominated. schmidt is decent. they split at b&b/dool.

cornelius smith,jr., 5/10 shot
the actor who i had determined the overall winner before this screwup happened. smith benefits from the rest of the abc actors not being good at all. and even though daniel kennedy is interesting, he really has yet to emote. oltl splits him with kennedy and gh with brooks.

e.j. bonnilla, 5/10 shot
this is someone i rather not talk about, he was the only younger actor and prenom at gl so he gets all of atwt. that's it. if he gets hazen's vote at y&r he could win only if gl split the vote on billy/hazen, which i hope doesnt happen and think it wont. who would nominate this guy? i hope even atwt is smart here, but they voted for mandy bruno one time.

mick hazen 2.5-3.7/10 shot
i just think he didnt have enough last year. after the sam's murder trial, he was backburner and the parkerty/legal incest story started off in november/december but nothing exploded yet. i just think he gets the last resort cbs vote at y&r and maybe a little from gl.

darrin brooks, 2/10 shot
there does seem to be more decency than usual this year and he just doesnt have enough supporters for me. i think he is better than the y&r actors so gh would go his way but the cbs soaps have their hands full. and no passions. i could be dead wrong here because part of me thinks bloc voting doesnt go on in the younger acting categories. and brooks is definitely in the top five. top 3 actually.

blake berris, 0/10 shot
again, i could be dead wrong here but he's not the sexy pick over brooks if one of them were to be nominated.

nomination scenarios.

scenario a
this is how i see them now with magnussen getting the majority of gl.
cornelius smith,jr.,amc
billy magnussen,atwt
e.j. bonnilla,gl
bryton mcclure,y&r
kevin schmidt,y&r

scenario b
this is the scenario in which the atwt actors split the vote.
cornelius smith,jr.,amc
billy magnussen,atwt
mick hazen,atwt
e.j. bonnilla,gl
bryton mcclure,y&r
kevin schmidt,y&r

there would be ties that would extend this to sixth. and it would be everyone behind magnussen who gets in.

final scenario
this is the non bloc-voting list....
cornelius smith,jr.,amc
billy magnussen,atwt
mick hazen,atwt
blake berris(or) darrin brooks,dool
bryton mcclure,y&r
