Monday, May 25, 2009 The Young and the Restless Best Actress Michelle Stafford - Phyllis Newman Best Actor Peter Bergman - Jack Abbott
Phyllis overhears Sharon tell Nick she's pregnant. She blasts Jack for not telling her, and inadvertently reveals that Billy might be the father, which stuns and infuriates Jack.
Having not yet seen the May 26th episode, I was coming to cite both Peter and Michelle for their great work Monday. Stafford was great in every scene, and I was sold on the episode before she even had any dialogue, when she was just reacting to Nick and Sharon's conversation. But the scene with her and Jack at Restless Style was fantastic. I watched it about four times. My favorite soap scene so far this year.

I totally agree, especially about Bergman. That was the best I've seen from him in a long time.

All My Children Friday May 22 2009 Lead Actor-David Canary (Adam/Stuart Chandler)
Adam comes to the realization Stuart was killed. Adam demands to see Stuart and say goodbye. After much arguing JR agrees.
I know many people are finding this storyline disappointing but theres no denying David Canary is pulling his weight and then some. His scenes in the morgue with dead Stuart were heartbreaking. Hes a perennial emmy contender and scenes like these are why.
Nina, Kay, and Jill remember Phillip. Jack confronts Billy. Chloe moves back to the Chancellor mansion as Raul and Mac get engaged. Cane is surprised by Lily's extended honeymoon idea.
I thought the writing was excellent and I thought the dialogue between Tricia, Jess, and Jeanne was fantastic and really played into the history the actors and characters share. I also thought the direction moved flawlessly from scene to scene. Also it is great to see the soap goddess Tricia Cast back as Nina. I hope they give her more to do to justify an emmy nomination.

I would also note this episode for Best Actor for Peter Bergman. He was very good at playing angry when confronting Billy. This is one of the best performances I've seen from Bergman in a while with hopefully many more to come.
Oops, I meant to those this on a couple of days ago:
Monday, May 25, 2009 Days of our Lives Best Younger Actress Shelley Hennig - Stephanie Johnson
Owen tells Stephanie he won't hand her over to EJ, and thinks the two of them can run away together. He then locks her back in the morgue drawer when he goes to run an errand.
I was very impressed with the subtext in Hennig's performance, as Stephanie was clearly terrified of what Owen might do to her, despite pretending to be happy. As a rape survivor, of course Stephanie was of course scared that the physically stronger and mentally unstable Owen might violate her. It wouldn't have made sense to mention it, but Hennig conveyed it beautifully in her eyes.
*SAVE THE DATE*...Erika Slezak and Bree Williamson!!(June 3, 2009)
OMG!! Today blew me away. Viki trying to outsmart Bess by pretending to be Jean. Bess turning the tables and catching Viki in the act. Then we see Jess remembering the birth and death of her baby...and BLAM!! I just sobbed..as both Jess and Viki broke down. F*cking gorgeous performances by Slezak and Williamson. They should both save this date for next years Emmy reel. They will both get nommed for this episode alone.
i disagree i do not believe bree williamson is getting back to back nods, especially if she upsettingly wins this year. and erika slezak? how many more emmys can she steal? williamson is too threatening and forced to be recognized every year especially on a show that has some bad talent. she cant be nominated for simple stuff it has to be dual roles and split personalities and the whole building of stories. and again, she is a product of fronz i think she got nominated because people were sick of the show's crying for her to be nommed. well she got it and if she wins the emmy she should enjoy it, because no way will she get a second one next year.
that may have sounded harsh but i believe its the truth. the show always pimps her up when its her time to serve. her being an often over the top piercing actress makes her a threat and that scares voters. if she wasnt so product pushed or over the top she may have had more nominations.

I wouldn't be so sure. Guess we will see what happens in August.

For once, I agree with everything you said. Williamson and Slezak were outstanding today. You pretty much covered it, and I have nothing more to ad.

I seem to be kind of post-happy in this thread these days . . .
Thursday, June 4, 2009 Days of our Lives Best Actress Alison Sweeney - Sami Brady
Sami continues to worry about baby Grace as EJ comforts her. When Daniel tells her Grace's illness could possibly be genetic, she realizes she needs to tell EJ, and everyone, who Grace's biological parents are.
At first I thought this would just be a lot of crying and fretting, but the added element of Sami thinking she has to tell EJ the truth about the baby made this a really good episode, and Sweeney really effective.
Friday June 5, 2009 The Young & the Restless Best Drama Series Best Writing Best Directing Best Actress: Michelle Stafford
Nick tells Phyllis that he chooses Sharon. Ashley takes a tumble down the stairs as Adam continues to gaslight her. Jeffrey and Gloria continue their plot to expose Mary Jane and Victor. Nikki learns that Sharon is pregnant. Mary Jane watches in the rain as Phyllis and Jack have sex.
Just an all around solid episode, and between this and the Billy/Chloe wedding I think Y&R has two very strong submissions. Flawless production, excellent acting, and crisp writing by Tom Casseilo once again. Grade A submission.
