BestDrama Series Best Writing Best Directing Best Actress: Michelle Stafford as Phyllis Newman Best Supporting Actress: Sharon Case as Sharon Newman
Family and friends attend Brad's funeral. Phyllis confronts Nick about Sharon. Sharon says goodbye to Brad.
Excellent episode I really liked the flashback montage from each of the women's perspective. A great balance and great turnover to each story. Also loved Michelle and Sharon in their reactions to Nick's affair and Sharon saying goodbye. Really spot on acting from both.

I agree, brilliant acting from everyone in the cast today.
Of course, it was Stafford and Case who owned this episode, but in just her few small scenes, the amazing Beth Maitland showed us all why she is a past Emmy winner.
February 9, 2009 Guiding Light Best Actor-Ron Raines Best Supporting Actress-Beth Chamberlin
Alan makes Beth sign a prenup with the provision that she would give up custody if she causes the divorce.
WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

Best Younger Lead Actor - Kevin Schmidt as Noah Newman
As Nick, Sharon, and Phyllis confront Noah on the dangers of under age drinking after his accident of falling underneath freezing water, Noah confronts Nick on his affair with Sharon.
I found that Kevin Schmidt's performance quite impressive today. I didn't think much of this young actor before until today's performance. He blew me away. He's really showing that he's growing into being an outstanding actor.

Outstanding Younger Actress In A Drama Series Tammin Sursok as Colleen Carlton, The Young and the Restless (CBS)
2/5: Colleen learns that Brad died in the lake. 2/9: Colleen blasts Victor at Brad house.
This girl has given the performances of her career during Brad’s death storyline and I’ll admit I really do not care for her portrayal of Colleen, but I have to give her props and if she gets an Emmy nom next yr. she’ll deserve it this time around.

Lizze is stunned to see her father. Confronting him after not seeing him for 5 years. Calling the cops to have him arrested for she and her siblings kidnappings. And then realizing he may have saved Beth's current love, Coop.
Rylan was sublte, perfectly shocked, and not over the top with hysteria. Her performance was excellent as were most were this week on GL.

Brady and Stephanie have a run in with Philip at Titan. Brady gets called away, and Stephanie tries to maintain dignity and not let Philip get to her with his charm. He then follows her to the brady Pub for lunch, and convinces her to start over, she agrees, but for her own reasons.

Outstanding Supporting Actor Justin Deas as Buzz Cooper
Outstanding Supporting Actress Beth Chamberlin as Beth Raines
Great writing and performances today throughout. A well paced, written and directed episode. Deas and Chamberlin were spot on as was John Driscoll as Coop. The scene where Deas is talking to Coop and tears are streaming down his face was perfect Emmy material. Not over the top and truly heartbreaking. I am convinced the light is back!

I'm adding to this... Best Supporting Actress- Marcy Rylan Best Supporting Actress- Crystal Chappell Best Supporting Actor- John Driscoll Best Writing Best Directing Best Drama Series
Olivia reacts about Phillip[s return to town; Olivia kisses Bill; Coop says his goodbyes to Beth and Buzz
This is a spot-on tape for Rylan, as Lizzie deals with turning in her father, her mother's beau dying, and her ex-boyfriend trying to get back into her life.
If Deas submits himself next year, this is Emmy # 7.

GUIDING LIGHT February 17, 2009 Supporting Actor - Justin Deas (Buzz) Drama Series Writing Directing
Buzz is informed he needs to decide whether or not to leave Coop on life support. He talks to Alan, Phillip, and Jenna before deciding to pull the plug. For GL, it was an extremely well done eppy. Superbly constructed, and especially acted by Justin Deas. Paired with yesterdays tape of GL. Deas has a surefire win if he decides to submit. AND HE SHOULD!!!

When he yelled "HE'S BRAIN DEAD!" to Alan, outside of Cedars...
Deas shows empathy and strength as a grieving father learning that the young 20-something son that he sent away as a little tikester is brain dead, and has to decide whether or not to pull the plug. This is probably an assessment of the decision that CBS has to make with GL in about a few short weeks from now. Eerily similar. This is the best I've seen from Deas in a long time.

Supporting Actress - Lesley-Anne Down (Jackie Marone)
Jackie finally tells Katie how she feels about her being her future daughter-in-law and reveals her plan about Nick and Bridget being together again. Then Nick comes out and stands up for his fiancee. Jackie goes to see Bridget in her office and tries to convince her that she and Nick belongs together.
Powerful performance from LAD, the best from years I think. Heather Tom was pretty fine too.

Best Actress - Michelle Strafford as Phyllis Newman (but for how long? LOL!)
Nick confronts Phyllis in her role of destroying Jack/Sharon's relationship by involving Brad. Phyllis defends herself by saying how incredibly insecure she is about Nick's relationship with Sharon. Phyllis mocks Sharon as being the "sweet one" and she's "the bitch".
If Michelle Strafford wanted to submit her name for next years' Emmys, she can already do it and solidify her place as a solid nominee and possible winner already. She has the back to back entry reels that will make voters totally admire her work. In todays episode, her insecurities and outright anger were woven so brilliantly. It was simply another superb performance by Michelle.
A very late addition, but I wanted to cite this episode for best writing as well. (I just watched it last night.) The Phyllis/Nick scenes were incredibly well written and of course beautifully performed by Morrow and especially Stafford. I love Phyllis when she gets like this. I also enjoyed the irony of Kevin having to tell Jana that he gave away the money they had just stolen back.

Phillippe rescues Coop from a burning car; Coop is left to die at Cedars; Phillippe stops the wedding
Hopefully, this isn't the final time that I see dramatic excellence on GL.
Have to agree, especially about the Feb. 10 episode. It would be a great eppy to have on their Emmy reel. WIth the accident, lack of care for Coop at the hospital, with Buzz seeing it, and Phillip walkin in on Alan and Beth's wedding, we saw shades of the old Guiding Light we have known and loved. Hopefully, they'll keep producing great shows like that one.
I've just been watching episodes from this past week of Y&R (great week!) and although I'm not sure there is one particular tape for him but I've gotta say, Billly Miller is really delivering. What an exciting young actor to watch and Y&R really nailed it with this casting choice. Definitely one to consider for a Y&R Supporting Actor slot next year.
