I couldn't find the old DAYS thread, so I started another one. I figured since there had been a little debate in one of the other threads, it might be nice to have a little dedicated back and forth.

My own thoughts are that I agree with a lot of what was set before: the storylines mostly are working for me, even though they require some of the characters to act like morons (let's be honest, some of these characters ARE moron), because they're simple, classic stories with an obvious payoff. A couple of things really struck me over the last few days.

Not that this is a huge surprise, but there's a big deficiency of character on this show. When Dr. Baker returned the other day, I was watching with my mom and brother, and we all applauded. How could a character who's basically just an enabler for Nicole be that exciting? Much as I enjoy watching Arianne Zuker and Alison Sweeney, it's painfully obvious that all of the 'good' characters with real rooting value and appeal are gone. (Marlena, John, Steve, Kayla, Belle, Shawn, Abby, Jennifer, Jack, Carrie, Austin, Mike)

The show seems to reacting really well to what does and doesn't work on screen. Dud storylines and characters like the silly Bo/Hope psychic visions story and Melanie are not getting much airtime at all, while the more compelling aspects of the show tend to be featured.

The canvas of the show, lacking though it may be, is really well integrated. The stories and characters we do have are appropriately connected.

Just my two cents.

Who said you could just start ANOTHER new DAYS thread like that! Mad Mad

LoL, I hope you know I'm just playing. I'd love to contribute more to this thread, but DOOL isn't a part of my schedule. But since I usually see eye-to-eye with your thoughts, I'm going to just co-sign everything you wrote. Maybe I'll watch an episode today since I'm off, and post back some comments. Cool

What luck for rulers that men do not think.

Aww, thanks.

Yeah, I know a lot of the posters here aren't regular DAYS watchers, but I thought it would be nice to get a conversation going.

As a relatively new Days viewer (I started watching just before the plane crash during the Colleen reveal)I am enjoying the show. I understand its probably not the great show it once was (as a lifelong GL fan, I relate) but for the most part I find it rather entertaining. Ari Zuker has been delivering top notch performances day after day for months now. Kate slowly plotting revenge on Chloe....priceless. I still dont like Shelley Henig (yes I know shes improved even from the time I started watching) but I dont mind her with Phillip. James Scott is stepping out as a true leading man in daytime and I for one cant get enough of EJ. I am loving the renewed Viktor/Stefano feud and the setup for it to carry over to the next generation with Phillip/EJ. I know most people want Sami with EJ or Lucas but I will take her with Rafe any day of the week. I cant wait for the baby truth to come out. I wish Brady would get something to do other than bowing down to Nicole in every scene he has. NuWill isnt awful and he and Mia work well together adding another nice layer to the baby story. Keeping Dr. Baker in the story has been a welcome addition, I loved the other day him telling Nicole "You're so smart you scare me sometimes, but other times you can be SO dumb" I cant tell you how many times I've thought how can someone as smart as Nicole be so stupid. As someone else mentioned the only things really not working are the psychic visions and that heinous hair model Melanie. I really do think Days is alot better than people give it credit for. If I had to rank the soaps right now Days would be tied for 3rd with a much improved GL, behind Y&R and OLTL.

I think the thing about Days is that now, even though I would love a better team behind the scenes, they have a plan and their storylines are classic soap storylines that are bringing viewers. And I think having Arianne and Alison being the lead ladies of the show is working too.

Is it just me or has John Callahan let himself go?

Keep Erica Kane on AMC!

John Callahan let himself go about eight years ago. He has been overweight for sometime now.

the thing about DOOL as much as i hate it---everytime i turn it on i get sucked into watching it for at least a few minuets---the stories as a whole may not be very good but the individual scenes are very interesting if you are just flipping through the channels. it pulls you in. Definetly more than AMC which i just flip right by.

Praying that ABC keeps Susan Lucci on "All My Children".

Philips shooting was graphic. Haven't seen that before.

WILLIAM PETERSEN: Well, this is a shock. The only explanation for this is that somehow in the last year, every one of you tried to act with rubber gloves and tweezers.

Yeah, the scene of Phillip laying on the bed with blood pouring out of his back was pretty gruesome. I liked it.

The last two weeks or so of this show were very good. I love that all the storylines are connected and how they all affect one another. I think they might be getting on a good track here.

I love how on Friday's episode, when Chelsea ran into Abe and Lexie, she said, "Abe! I can't believe it's really you!" I often forget that he's still on the show!

yea i liked that too. but at least it adds some realism, that they're acknowledging that he's become more of a recurring character again.

Wow, this thread was so hard to find! We should comment on here more.

After watching last week's episodes, I had two comments:

The first was a question about Will's friend Tad, which youngsoapfan asked in another thread.

The other was that I love how Kate just got back from London but kind of looks like she just got back from 1986. The huge shoulder pads in that androgynous suit, the fuchsia eye shadow and geometric earrings. It's great that Kate makes bolder fashion choices than any of the other women on the show.

Thanks for finding this because I wanted to comment on Gordon Thomson being on the show but I didn't look for the thread. I wish they would use him more.

Yes, I like him a lot, also. I was thinking the other day that he would probably have great chemistry with Deidre Hall. Not happening, of course.

Gordon Thomson would have been a great Roman Brady. What his face doesn't do it for me.

I am digging this DiMera/Kiriakis feud. Besides, Phillip & EJ are hot!

Was anybody else kind of floored to see real tears coming out of Mia and Will on Friday's episode? I couldn't believe it. What a contrast Taylor Sprietler is to poor Molly Burnett, who made every conceivable face trying to emit tears, and failing, during the climax of her story with Nick.

These two have definite potential. I like them.

Pretty good performances today from Alison Sweeney, Arianne Zuker and Taylor Sprietler.

When Nicole was in the chapel telling god to punish her and not the baby, it was pretty gripping...you can certainly feel her guilt. Zuker is so underrated!

I was also pretty impressed with Galen Gering who is doing a very good job in this role compared to what he did on PASSIONS. Rafe has been a very surprising good addition to the cast, he seems to fit right in and is very likable. I am really enjoying the Sami/Rafe pairing.
