Shallow Alert: I'm kind of glad Chris Engen walked out, because I think Michael Muhney would make for a much hotter gay love scene. There, I said it.
Ugh about OLTL. I thought it was funny today watching Gigi throw herself at Kyle to get information about Stacy. Farah Fath does comedy very well; they need to stop throwing her heavy drama and play to her strengths. I've been finding the storyline more or less watchable these days because Stacy's lies are about to be revealed (finally!). But if she gets pregnant, this whole storyline will just drone on and on and on.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
And Nelson, you shouldn't be surprised that Brian Frons allows a gay couple on OLTL. He strikes me as a short-sighted opportunist, so he probably looked at all the positive attention for ATWT's Luke and Noah and GL's Olivia and Natalia and thought, "Quick! Somebody write me a pair of gays! And then call up the soap mags so I can tell them how dedicated I am to diversity!"

I'm still upset that Engen is departing his role in the height of Y&R's best storyline, but i am also anxious to see the new guy in action (literally).
It's obvious now, though, that Engen departed the role because of Adam bedding Rafe. He can talk all he wants about "the character taking a dark turn" and such, but it's blaring the gay thing is just too much for him.
Chris, it only hurts the first time..LOL
As for the EP stressed out....my guess is Chris Goutman. I'm sure Babboon Bloom (oop, Babs..my bad) told him his job and his show is on the chopping block. Lighten up, Chris...i'm sure your show can't be as bad as B&B.
Guess it sucks to be named Chris this week, huh Nel????

Thrilled as I am at the upcoming Adam/Rafe love scenes, I'm kind of sad that I won't be surprised when it happens. Damn you spoilers! But it'll definitely be must-see TV. I wonder if the timing of the recast will kind of work for Y&R, though. If new or returning viewers tune in to see Adam & Rafe (and I'm sure some will), they won't be familiar with Chris Engen, so the new guy will kind of have a fresh start with them.
For most part, I like Clementine Ford as Mackenzie on Y&R, but I would give my left arm (or maybe just a portion of my pancreas or something) to see Martha Madison on Y&R. Hell, or back on DAYS for that matter.
I'm very interested to hear more about the pre-nom reels! I can't believe KKL picked that for her submission. It's true, some people really should not be allowed to choose their own reels. It would be in everyone's best interest.
If the in-studio voting is eliminated next year (at this point I'm sort of neutral to the idea), is it possible they might go to a system like that used by the primetime Emmys the previous two years, where there's a general list of top ten or fifteen per category, chosen by popular vote from all the entrants, that's then judged like the pre-noms based on a submitted reel? Even typing that out it sounds like too much work, so I guess probably not.
The Rex/Stacy business is a real shame.
Congratulations to Arianne Zucker and Kyle Lowder! And also to Maura West!
We haven't seen Rafe's tool yet, so calm down GloFish...LOL
And to my dear Katherine Kelly Lang.....WTF??? You do the best work of your career in Storm's suicide eppys and you pick a reel that involves Kyle Lowder?????
OK...forgive me for what i am about to say about my girl, but that was definitely a blonde moment.

Blind Item: i'm guessing the stressed out EP is either Jill Farren Phelps reeling from GH's latest ratings nosedive or Ellen Wheeler stressing out over where she'll get her next job and realizing nobody will ever hire her again.
I'm guessing the star wanting out is Anthony Geary (can i hope?)
Praying The Daytime Emmys air on TV in 2010!

This Erika Slezak talk is really scaring me. OLTL isn't Days. Days always appealed to younger audiences and is able to fire vets without losing tons of viewers. OLTL has already tried focusing on newbies and sidelining the vets. The ratings tanked when Viki's storyline was cut and the show focused on Stacy. When Viki got involved with the baby switch and Stacy's screentime was cut, OLTL beat GH and AMC in the ratings. And now Frons thinks it's a good idea to fire Slezak. Even with her 6 Emmys, she can't be that expensive.
And why isn't anybody talking about getting rid of Bernard and Geary who must be even more expensive. Slezak's never phoned in a single performance and the same can't be said for the men of GH, plus her show is routinely beating GH in the ratings.
John Paul Lavoisier's been speaking out about how much he hates this Stacy crap so it wouldn't surprise me if he's the East Coast star talking about pulling a Chris Engen
Benard and Geary are men. Frons and Phelps would never cut them to save money. Frons likes treating the female actors like s*h*i*t. He'd been trying to get rid of Brier since he took over the job. Does anyone remember when he was making fun of her weight and then had to give a half-a*s*s*e*d apology?I figured Slezak was a goner because Strasser keeps making veiled references to it on her hotline.
If these men are gay, why are they acting straight? Why didn't Kyle pull away from the kiss first? Why is Fish still going after the women? Not every gay men rejects women and then becomes gay. Some gay men go directly to gayville without having sex with women. I suppose these are minor points, but I like my gay characters to be gay.
Let me get this right. Rafe who has been crusading to get his aunt exonerated will forget all of this just for the chance at Adam's penis????? I know some men are penis crazy, but come on. I thought Vail Bloom was off the show until I saw her the other day. I have not seen Tammin Sursock either.
But this concerns me. I was hoping Maria and Hogan could do justice to Y&R's first gay storyline, but already they are playing with fire.
The character of Rafe has been written thus far, as a genuine good guy with a heart of gold. He clearly sees Adam is straight and has been bedding Heather, had sex with Skye, etc. So why would a smart, level headed lawyer fall into bed with his straight best friend?
The only way this story will make sense is if Adam drugs Rafe and uses this against his career. If not, and Rafe voluntarily succumbs to Adam's advances, then, once again, another gay man will be characterized as a horny, bed hopping breeder.
I hope i'm wrong, Nel. This story better be good!

Let's give these shows some time before we condemn their gay storylines. In an interview I just read with Scott Evans -- someone here posted it just this week, don't remember who -- Fish's sexuality will be something he comes to term with. That doesn't bother me. It explains why Fish is so hostile to Kyle, who represents something he's trying to push away, and why he pursues Layla, who represents something he's trying to make himself into. As long as they don't turn this story into a generic, PSA coming-out fable, I'll be satisfied with this progression of his character. As for Kyle, he pushed away from Gigi pretty decisively. Just because he's gay doesn't mean he has to be disgusted by women. He just doesn't want to have sex with them.
Let's give Y&R a chance to see how they play out Rafe's feelings. The show has established that he has feelings for Adam. If he feels strongly enough, I can believe he'd make a horrible decision to be with the man he loves. Goodness knows lawyers on other shows have done much worse. GH's Alexis defended Sonny for years and had his baby. OLTL's Tea, though not a paragon of virtue, has crossed just about every line they've drawn when it comes to Todd.
I don't want to staunchly defend storylines I haven't seen, but I feel like I should counter the preemptive negativity. When a gay storyline arises, people here sometimes seem too quick to criticize it because it doesn't fit into their idea of how a gay storyline should be told. Give them a chance to screw it up before we complain that they're screwing it up.
