No one on the show has truly shined lately. For Emmy consideration, most of the actors will have to go back to January, February, or March to pull out eppys for Drama Series and the acting categories.

The new format of the show does not have to be that awful at all. It's just that the writing is not matching up with a lot of the scenes. GL needs to tackle some hard-edged stories, like some type of "big" storyline like a fire or hostage situation that makes this type of filming more realistic. They may have to Emmy-bait, but other shows do it as well. I'm hoping with assistance from the old writers which should be airing soon, we will see some of that.

I know there are soon to be 4 head writers but it sure feels like the beginnings of that are upon us. Why? Because some of the story and some of the interactions make a lot of sense and have pretty excellent dialouge all around them. (take for instance the Reva/Jeffery, Mel/Remy, Daisy/Marina stuff today 7-17.)

Then there is typical GL as of the last 6 months with the stuff they throw at Ron Rains. And the baseball games and bike rides that all of these Springfield children are supposed to be participating in and we see 2 or 3 contract players standing on the side of the road or baseball diamond making whooping sounds IS BEYOND STUPID! I mean, come-on. Nothing was worse than Coop teaching Sunday school (or whatever the hell that was supposed to be) in Ellen Wheelers office the other day.

I can say I'm happy GL is starting to show very, very small signs of improvement - I just wish they were more drastic because somebody at GL just does not get it and its beyond frustrating to watch this institution I care about so passionately about shrivel up like this.

I used to love GL but I can't stand the new style of filming. It doesn't feel like a soap opera anymore. I don't want to see up the noses of these actors. And none of the stories are compelling me to watch. And even though Josh and Cassie are not good together, he shouldn't be with Reva either. Reva and Jeffrey deserve a story of their own.

I actually thing the writing is improving. Still no drop down fall out drama, but that may be because there's no dramatic music. That always adds to a scene. I think if GL was doing the old format and had the music, it would seem more engrossing. The new format takes away from all of that in some modern reality like way. Still love the show though.

I loved Kim Zimmer's most recent article in Soap Opera Digest. She's right; if the writing's good and they have strong, concrete storylines, then the show will be good, no matter how it is being shot. Does anyone know when the new co head writers' material is going to start airing? I heard that the new material will be better.

From Crystal Chappell's Fan Club newsletter...

Crystal's husband, Michael Sabatino, is reprising his role as sleazy lawyer, Vince Russo, on GL. He started taping in late July, and should be on air soon. No first airdate or length of role available at this time.

MEMO TO THE GL WRITERS:

LEARN WHO YOU'RE GD CHARACTERS ARE AND WRITE FOR THEM! STOP, STOP, STOP MAKING THEM INTO THESE POD PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO REASON TO EXIST!

Example, Lizzie:

Either go to LA or stay in Springfield.
Either be with Bill, or don't.
Either go against your grandfather and turn him in, or don't.
Either decide you want Sara, or forget about her.

Yes, I understand every character has shades of grey, and my god would love and life be boring if it were so black and white. But it's like they are writing for 2 different characters depending on what day it is.

Lizzie is a character fans WANT and SHOULD be rooting for, but you STUPID STUPID writers make it darn near impossible!

We have seen Lizzie grow and be stronger and be a more capable woman than her mother ever could be - so, PLEASE don't keep writing her an idiot. An idiot in love, okay...but my god, you know if you want your daughter back or not - and that wouldnt change daily!!!

OMG, I just read a spoiler that made my head spin. We are about to have another pregnancy in SF. You'll never guess who the parents are though........ The 472 writers are really grasping at straws thats all I can say.

Why? Why? Why? do I even bother wasting my precious time watching this show that used to mean so much to me?

I'd love to live blog with all the one time fans of this show that still tune in today.

Fridays show, case in point:
MALLET (to Frank): Frank, did you get a storage unit yet? You need to get all that stuff of yours out of Harley's basement.

FRANK: No! I didn't get storage yet. I know I need to get it out; Harley was nice enough to let me store the stuff down there when Elanie and I split.

HOW IN THE HELL COULD FRANK DICOUPOLUS even utter that crap? Frank/Elanie split up, what, over 10 years ago now? Gus just built that house for Harley, MAYBE 3 yrs ago?!?!

ELLEN WHEELER NEEDS TO GO TO THE FLORIDA KEYS AND HOPE THAT BRIDGE HASN'T BEEN COMPLETED YET AND DRIVE THE **** OFF OF IT!!!

Not to mention, the house that was previously standing there was knocked down by Phillip 4 or 5 years ago. Whatever Frank had stored on that property is long gone.

Well now that christian Natalia, who berated Daisy when she had her abortion, will become a lesbian with Olivia (who has been with every man possible in her run); I think we've hit a new low.

A 55 year old pregnant who has been through menopause and a lesbian couple for Ellen Wheeler to live out her fantasy. This show is the biggest joke on the air. I had always hoped that when it came time, GL could at least go out on top, and with some credibility...

That dream, has sadly vanished as everything they are doing wreaks of desperation of shock value plot lines that dont even make sense!

Was it me just hoping or was the 12/1 eppy of GL not so bad?

Why is it I find the Boudreaux family the most entertaining on the show these days?

Sure it's a tad weird that Bill's sister is going to be paired with his cousin, but GL does like to keep it in the family. And Jeff & Gina did have some chemistry.

And now that Bill is awake, can we please not have anybody in a coma on this show for awhile...it's become such an easy plot device.

At least the stories seem to actually be going somewhere these days...as compared to walking around a pond or a gazebo talking about NOTHING!

Yes we GL fans find hope where we can these days and I will agree it wasnt its usual terrible self yesterday.

Tognoni and Branson seem to work well, though I am tired of the "mad at the world young man" bit they seem to be doing again. It seems every new (or returning) guy in the past 4 years has done the same thing. I like to call it Jonathan syndrome. I'm half interested though so thats a good thing.

Casting Montel as Clayton really gave the Boudreaux family a needed bump. The new Leah is still too old but I didnt dislike her. Christina is interesting, she has a tendency to go a bit too far over the top but shes not terrible.

The show does seem to be getting a bit of direction but with all the coming returns that scares me. Do the have direction finally because they can see the finish line? I dont know but I am enjoying what bits I can for now and at least looking forward to GL in the coming weeks, rather than dreading it.

The casting of Jeff Branson as Shayne Lewis is a huge plus in my book. He's pretty much scored on every level so far.

He has great chemistry with Gina Tognoni, Mandy Bruno, and Kim Zimmer. Here's to hoping there's a good story waiting to be told with him, because the man is easy on the eyes and can deliver.

Yeah JB has been getting rave reviews pretty much across the board. It is definately a GOOD choice on a show that has been full of nothing but bad ones of late.

I know the Dinah/Shayne age difference seems to bother some people but I think they are stunning together. I cant stand Bruno so I hope they keep him far away from her. I also liked that they let him have scenes with Remy right off since they were best friends before and it was Remy who helped him walk again last time.

Good stuff.....FINALLY!!!!

Couldn't they have picked a better episode to show today? If GA is coming back, it would have made sense to show a classic GL episode featuring GA (my suggestion- The Four Musketeers, or something like that) to hook in Christmas viewers to the show in anticipation of GA's return to the show. Just my $ .02.
