Given that TV longest running drama will end in Sept., there are so many talented actor and actresses that will be out of a job. Some may be snatch up off the bat, like Crystal Chappell, and somemight me either doing guest bits or theatre work from now on. Well I think the one that is going to be snatch up quick is Mary Rylan (Lizzie). She is going to have her pick of soaps to go on and I can see her a the new Belle Black if they are going to bring the character back on canvas. And since th are building up the Horton family again maybe they can get Tina Sloan (Lillian) as Laura. The only thing I know about that character is that once Susan Flannery played her, but given the history she has on that show and how she can be w/Maggie & Julie as the women of the Horton family, I think she would be a good get for that show. That is of course if they are casting and if she is willing to move to the West coast.

If DAYS were bringing back Belle, I'd never forgive them if they didn't give first dibs to Martha Madison. I know some think Madison was miscast as Belle, but for me, she took a character I always loved but had to defend and turned her into someone who could really be a heroine and who I loved even more. I think having Marcy Rylan in the role would be a terrible regression for the character. (I'm not much a fan of Ms. Rylan, though she's a lovely young lady.)
I'm not familiar with Tina Sloan, but there are probably a couple dozen characters I would get back on the show before thinking of Laura. Both her children, Mike and Jennifer, are gone now, and her ex Bill is, too. She had a good rivalry with Kate, but it's not like Kate is hurting for enemies. I don't see a returned Laura serving much purpose.
I loved Martha in the role too, but I think if they wouldn't be able to get her back I can see Marcy in that role.
And as for Laura I just figure since the Horton family is slowley making a presence back on the show why not bring her back, but like you said her children are not on, but if they were to bring back Abby she'll have a connection.

That's a good point. I really wish they had recast Abby when the last young lady playing the role, I feel terrible I can't remember her name right now, left the show, instead of just basically turning Stephanie into a replacement for her. No offense to Stephanie, but Abby would have made more sense as Max's previous love interest and as Chelsea's best friend, which she already was, than Steph did.
The last time Laura was on the show regularly, played by the very entertaining Jamie Lynn Bauer, she ultimately became just Marlena's support character. She didn't have much story of her own, not to say that she couldn't.
There may be great performances in Marcy Rylan, but I haven't seen them yet. I strain to think of any vacant daytime role I like that I'd like to see her in.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
I just wish they would stop inventing Hortons. The problem Days is having is that so many of the characters are cross-related. It's hard to tell who is related to who anymore. I think poor Will Roberts is related to 95% of Salem. So bringing back more characters from core families doesn't seem probable at this point. I think Days would benefit from a complete overhaul and introduce a new family based on Rafe.

or instead of reinventing horton's...just bring back characters, like they're doing with carly and justin, and actually give them a GOOD storyline, as opposed to the swinging door routine with carrie and austin, and steve and kayla!

I was having a similar discussion with my parents about people on DAYS all being related. It's sort of true, but let's not blame it on the Hortons. With Nathan, there are still only about five of them. It's the Bradys that are the real problem here, because they've intermingled with all the other families, and most of the complicated ones are still around. Establishing a new core family could do a lot of good, but it's hard for me to say the show should deliberately mitigate an existing family on the show.
