I've noticed that GL and a lot of its actors got many notices for their performances this year. Are they eligible to submit themselves for next year's Emmys? Or because their show will have been cancelled for quite a while, do you think that they just will not submit themselves?

They're still eligible. If I remember right, Port Charles submitted the year after they were canceled and Brian Presley and Thorsten Kaye even got nominations.

The real question is will the stars/show submit itself? AW didn't after they were cancelled 10 yrs ago; however, as zack pointed out, PC did. Passions didn't this year (I didnt think they were eligible anyway)...

I have a strong feeling that a lot of the GL actors will submit, especially if the voting system is changed as is rumored.

I don't know if you can really look at a pattern of a show getting nominations after they are canceled in this case. I have a strong feeling that the loss of GL in the industry affected more people than just those at GL. The industry as a whole felt their cancellation and I think the sympathy and loss of a legend card will play a great deal into the noms it gets this year.

That and, it was creatively one of the best years they have had in 3 or 4 years now. I still have yet to see another actress give the performance Crystal Chappell did during Olivia's confession of Love to Natalia. Ron Rains had the best tape of his GL career in the weeks prior to GL's passing. And Justin Deas gave breathtaking performances when Buzz mored Coop and reconected with Jenna. Past emmy nominee Marj Dusay was on fire the final week of the show and many others (Robert Newman, Kim Zimmer, Tina Sloan, Jessica Leccia, and Jeff Branson also have strong tapes.) We'll see...

37 "Lead" acting nominations by 17 individuals have represented CBS' Guiding Light since 1985.

Here is the list (which includes year a performer was first nominated; some appeared just once).…

LEAD ACTRESS
1985: Kim Zimmer [Reva Shayne]
1993: Maeve Kinkead [Vanessa Chamberlain]
1994: Fiona Hutchison [Jenna Bradshaw]
1995: Marj Dusay [Alexandra Spaulding]
1998: Cynthia Watros [Annie Dutton]
2006: Beth Ehlers [Harley Cooper]
2007: Crystal Chappell [Olivia Spencer]
2008: Nicole Forester [Cassie Winslow]

LEAD ACTOR
1992: Michael Zaslow [Roger Thorpe]
1993: Mark Derwin [A.C. Mallet]
1994: Peter Simon [Ed Bauer]
1995: Justin Deas [Buzz Cooper]
2002: Robert Newman [Josh Lewis]
2003: Grant Aleksander [Phillip Spaulding]
2003: Ricky Paull Goldin [Gus Aitoro]
2006: Ron Raines [Alan Spaulding]
2009: Daniel Cosgrove [Bill Lewis]

[Note: Zimmer, Watros, and Deas all won. Zaslow won with his third try, in 1994. Kinkead and Chappell prevailed in supporting races, earlier, as had Deas.]

I am wondering—if we were to see an equal count (right now it's 9 men to 8 women), which actress would be best suited for a lead-actress slot for GL's final Emmy year, 2010? Some would say Gina Tognoni [Dinah Marler]. I also wonder about Jessica Leccia [Natalia Rivera]. Most would probably say, "Forget about it entirely!"

I'd say Kim Zimmer and Crystal Chappell are probably best placed to land lead nods.

I do wonder about the placement for Justin Deas. He appeared in the second highest amount of episodes for any GL actor this year but even so never really felt like a lead this year.

If Chappell isn't nominated for her work as Olivia this year, then I'll kiss a lesbian.

Lmao.

But so true that Crystal Chappell would be a very deserving nominee. And she's probably helped by the fact that she's back on Days now.

I dunno about new nominees in the lead categories though. If it's still the same prenom system with only 2 prenominations per category I dunno I kinda doubt Gina Tognoni would make it in lead.

I sincerely hope Chappell, Zimmer, Deas, Aleksander, Raines, Tognoni, Chamberlin and Sloan at least submit. I think most - if not all of them - could garner a nod and maybe even a win. Also, best show and writing for Coop's death, almost anything Otalia and the final week, especially Tues. Wed. and Thurs.
