I saw the scene that made CE leave and it was nothing. Or maybe Y&R just chickened out. They cut to another scene before Rafe and Adam kissed. So there is another CBS soap afraid of same sex intimacy. Anyone see a pattern? I hope CBS is exposed. They actually did way less than ATWT did for Luke and Noah. At least Nuke was half naked and kissed.

Shame on Y&R! Shame on you Maria Arena Bell, Hogan Sheffer, and Paul Rauch - COWARDS ALL!! This was an insult to your gay fans, and after being a faithful viewer for 25 years, I'm seriously considering checking out.
To TPTB at Y&R: You're on notice. If I don't see a fair and accurate portrayal of a gay relationship onscreen by the end of August, I'm done with Y&R for good.
I'm beginning to think that the CBS brass want to intentionally alienate and **** off loyal, lifelong viewers because they want out of the soap business altogether. ATWT is going to be the next to go...and I predict most soaps will be gone within a decade. I for one am tired of wasting five hours of my life every week on a show that doesn't care enough about me to portray a gay character's life honestly, fully, and with integrity.
So is this one of those deals where the 2 won't be shown in bed and Adam and Rafe will just "elude" to the fact they had sex??
If this is the case, GLAAD and the media will be all over this show. For being the number one daytime drama on television and having some very loyal fans, Y&R....you are a disgrace!
Yeah, movieman is correct. You all are jumping the gun because Michael Muhney has been on the show two days and the upcoming storyline where Adam sleeps with Rafe in order to keep him on his side is probably more of the reason Chris Engen walked.
Those who have seen Monday's episode of Y&R (it airs a day ahead of schedule in Canada) say that it picks up post-coital, so we in fact don't get to see any sex between Adam and Rafe, so if that is the case, I think it's fair for fans to feel slighted, even though it's early yet in this storyline.
"A movie is not good because it arrives at conclusions you share, or bad because it does not. A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it: about the way it considers its subject matter, and about how its real subject may be quite different from the one it seems to provide." - Roger Ebert, from the introduction to "Awake in the Dark" (2006)
I don't want to be defending the banning of same sex kissing and love scenes, but let's think about what we're really dealing with here. Adam and Rafe aren't in love. This is a plot twist. I try to watch the show and react to it as if I didn't know what was going to happen. If I didn't know to expect Rafe and Adam having sex, I would be so shocked them they say it happened I wouldn't even be thinking about what I didn't see. I've definitely seen this happen with plot twist-seductions on other soaps. Luke and Noah's first kiss was more of an event because they had feelings for one another. I'm at least willing to wait until there's an actual gay couple in an actual relationship before I get upset about them not being affectionate on screen.
Also, if this is a CBS thing, they really should be ashamed of themselves.
After watching today's Y&R, i have to take back what i said about the writers not showing "the actual dirty deed" between Adam and Rafe. It's not a love story in any way, it's just a sick, desperate man trying to do what he can to survivve in "his world."
I remember way back in the late 70's when GL's Roger raped Holly. They never showed the actual rape, just Holly all battered and bruised. Ditto for when Andy raped Brooke on B&B. The scene cut out when Andy threw Brooke to the ground after slappin her, then picked up thereafter.
None of the above had anything to do with love. The rapes were pure violence and Adam taking advantage of Rafe was sort of an "emotional rape."
The aftermath of "their act" was done very well. Watching a desperate Adam call Heather to come over so he can forget about what he did with Rafe was brilliant.
Kudos Y&R!

MTSrocks, I disagree. If Adam were seducing Olivia or Victoria, would they have shown them kissing? The answer is yes. There would have been no fade out. Why the double standard? There's no plausible explanation for it, and I doubt that people would be making excuses if this were on a less acclaimed show. I was not looking for QAF sexual activity, but if they can show Adam kissing Heather, they could have shown Adam kissing Rafe.
I actually loved the way they did the Rafe/Adam scenes. If I hadn't known the two of them were going to have sex, it would have been such an exciting twist to see them redressing themselves, Adam looking like he'd just sold his last bit of dignity for a loaf of bread. To show them very early in the episode before even kissing, then wait 15 or 20 minutes and show that they've already had sex was pretty exciting because it would have been so unexpected. If we weren't pretty much getting the play by play beforehand, it would have certainly surprised me. Based on the preview for yesterday's episode, it really looked like nothing would happen yesterday. I know some feel that at least a kiss should have been shown, but I loved it just the way it was done. They can't write the show anticipating that everyone already knows what's going to happen before it happens. They have to make the effort to really surprise the people who don't already know what's happening.
My questions is this: were these the exact same scenes that Chris Engen refused to do? If they were, I'm confused because it seemed like the consensus was that Engen walked because he didn't want to have make out with a guy. But, if these were the original scenes, he wouldn't have had to even kiss Yani Gellman.
Does anyone know if they re-wrote them or not after Engen left?

Yes, it was important to show Rafe and Adam kiss. The fact that Adam would go that far to keep his secrets is important character material, and to see him go through with kissing and even undressing would be good material for the actor to play from an emotional/psychological standpoint, not to mention shocking for audiences who don't read spoilers, which should be the point. Not showing the sex takes a lot of the air out of the story twist, and having Adam kiss Heather immediately afterwards while wearing nothing but a towel demonstrates a clear double standard. (As an unintended effect, it was also silly to watch the show repeat the same format for each sex scene: cut away, cut back to see Adam and sexual partner getting dressed again.)
For those who say it's okay because they're not a romantic couple, when has that ever stopped soaps from showing us sex scenes. Rebecca and Nikolas on GH, Sonny and Claudia on GH, Rex and Stacy on OLTL. Daytime is full of loveless couples doing it. We couldn't at least see Adam seducing Rafe with a kiss?

Why should Y&R be given a free pass and MAB be excused while ATWT and Goutman were under fire? ATWT was crucified for Nuke's lack of kissing, so why shouldn't the same apply for Adam and Rafe? Their encounter would have been more challenging for MM to play all the beats. The hesitation, uncomfortability, desperation, struggle and arousal all to sidetrack Rafe would be material any actor would want. MM could lay claim that only he has ever acted out a scene like that in Daytime. And how many heteros sleep on soaps not for love, but for lust, blackmail, revenge, pseudo rape or being hopped on medication? So to use the reason that they are not a "couple" is a major cop out by MAB and Co, and people from the press should call her on it. It's good that people in the boards are.

So they did it again. They totally didn't show Rafe and Adam kissing again when they clearly were. Why is nobody going to call Y&R on being chicken and insulting with their gay characters?

They are the sacred cow right now so convoluted and insulting excuses have been and will be made for them. It's inexcusable. I'm surprised Bierdz has nothing to say about this since the gay storyline was the reason he went back.
